The Rake had many victims. However, most of the victims of The Rake were from a very small village in England named Pluckley. This small village is known for the famous forest “Screaming Woods.”
One night, one kid snuck out at midnight to go over to his friend’s house. His name is James. The fastest way to get to his friend’s house was going through “Screaming Woods.” So, James ran across the street and down the trail, and then he saw the sign “Screaming Woods.” Before James went in the woods, he started to feel kind of scared to go through the woods at night alone, because he had heard stories from friends about people coming out of the woods, claiming they saw a weird creature. When they came out, they were never the same person, and some

He is in big trouble. Can you put James on?” James friend said, “Well I actually can not, because he never made it over here. He said he was on his way, but he never showed up at my house.” Once James’ mom heard that she panicked and told James friend, “Okay, thank you. If you hear anything from him please call me.”
James’ friend said, “Okay I will. No problem,” replied James’ friend. James’ mom ended the call and had only one choice: She called the cops and reported her son as a missing child. The cops came and looked at the picture of the kid and asked questions. Then twenty minutes later, said, “Okay ma’am, do not worry. We are going to leave right now and go look for your son

Once the cops left, she was waiting for the call to let her know they found him. While she was waiting, she was in the living room pacing back and forth, crying and worried to the bone about James. Two hours later, the phone rang. She quickly answered, and the cops called about James. James’ mom asked “Did you find my son?”
The cops said “Yes we found James but..”
James mom cut the cop off and said “Oh thank you officer, thank you so much!”
The cop sighed “Ma’am you cut me off.” James’ mom said “Sorry, what did you want to say?"
The cop said “There's some bad news. Your son James is dead.”
Then James’ mom replied by yelling, screaming, crying and wailing, “Nooo, my only child is dead! No God, why did you take my son from me? Why God?" The cop said, “I am sorry. I will bring James body over to your house later.”
James’ mom said “Okay.” But still crying, moaning, yelling and screaming.
The next day the word around town was, “Did you hear about the kid named James who died?”
A week later his body was buried privately. Only family was invited to
One night, one of the parents hear some screaming and sounds, like a howling. The next morning, when they began to search the area, around the house, they saw some footprints in the mud, they were very large and real. Something
Irving and Hawthorne both explore the role the forest has on their Puritan communities and main characters. Irving’s story focuses the forest as a place where the devil is while cutting and burning trees. Irving’s depiction of the forest is very dark, and the forest itself is more a swamp than a traditional, lush forest. Irving describes it as, “thickly grown with great gloomy pines and hemlocks, some of them ninety feet tall, which made it dark at noon-day…(Irving, 178).” He also uses adjectives like “stagnant”, “smothering”, “rotting”, and “treacherous” to describe his story’s forest.
Jake, Lucy’s neighbor was a well-educated kid. He was 15 years old and lives in an old timber house with his parents. Jake’s father was a farmer and had lived in the area since he was a lad. The area seemed to be haunted since creepy tales about all sorts of beasts was told. People even claimed that they were awakened some nights by a howling. Mostly people believed that it was a feral dog but Jakes father incised that it was a wolf, a ghost wolf. He was sure since he had seen a wolf in the forest when he was in Jake’s age, but none believed him. He kept telling his son about the wolf and Jake wanted to find out the truth. Lucy knew about Jake’s curiosity, at the same time as she decided to escape from her unbearable father. So she lied to get Jake by her side on the endless escape from the futureless community. She said that she knew where the wolf’s lair was. Jake got even more curious and joined her wolf hunting-adventure.
Since the beginning of the society, the forest has been portrayed as a place filled with darkness, and inhabited by the devil and other unworldly creatures. The rumors that were formed about what could be lurking in the forest were created to fill the void of knowledge of what was in the woods and to give them something to believe in. In reality, what lurked in the forest was still unknown to most people. The mystery of the forest was what people were so scared of.
One day, a fourteen-year-old boy named Jonathan Price found himself lying down in the grass and suddenly thought, where are mom and dad? Where am I? He did not realize that he had walked one hundred and fifty miles east of his home in Wichita, Kansas and blacked out the previous day, October 19th, and blacked out. As he got up out of the grass, he felt a strange desire for food. He started wandering in the direction he thought was home. He started to go through a forest when he saw a beautiful waterfall joining in to a river. As he walked over to the river he found what he thought was an apple on the floor and ate it almost immediately. After he finished the so-called apple, he drank some water. He started to feel sock and looked at the apple in his hands only to realize that he had actually picked up an orange.
The forest is generally sought out as a place where no good happens in many stories such as Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe. It is no different in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter. It is where many mysterious things reside in the wilderness. The town in the book can contrast the forest as a sanction where people are are immune from the darkness. They differ, but they also aid in conveying the bigger themes of the story. Some people might see the forest as a “happy place” for Hester and Pearl, but it should really be looked upon as a place of sin when comparing it to its foil, the town, which in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter contrasts to aid in the themes of the nature of evi, civilization versus wilderness, and identity
The moon gleams luminously down on the clearing, revealing a small village that appears to be whittled out of the jungle. On the outermost edge of a cluster of small buildings there sits a hut, all of its windows lit by firelight. All of a sudden a fierce squalling cry pierces the quiet night. The mother lying inside the hut breathes out a sigh of relief as she wipes her sweaty brow. After all these months, her baby has finally made his way into the world. She reaches out and grabs a hold of her newborn son, bringing him up to her so she can see his tiny face. As she looks down on him, a whimper of dismay escapes her. It’s a monster! Surely this horrifying creature cannot be her baby! His face seems to be split from the lower lip up; he looks like he is snarling at her. As she watches, he utters another loud cry. The ghastly tissue where his cherubic mouth should be flaps wildly. Her heart sinks in grief as she realizes that all her pain has been for naught. This monster cannot be allowed to live. They will have to dispose of him.
Elements of the supernatural have long enhanced the folklore of many cultures. Stories of ghosts, magic, and so-called aliens are transferred from generation to generation, sparking our imagination and uncovering our deepest fears. While some stories are clearly fabulous, others are believed by those who tell them. The story I wish to report is of the latter kind: an experience that generated real fear in the teller. Although the story is completely original, it contains ideas reflected in much other folklore, including similar tales from similar locations. And like all folklore, the effectiveness of the story depends upon the performance of the teller and those to follow.
I try to walk faster so that I can finally get to my destination but the walked seem like it was taking years to go there. As if the walk through the dark valley would never end. The full moon was shining very bright and the stars were out as I heard the sound of the gust wind, I don’t know why my heart began to beat faster, faster and faster. So then I began to run because of how frightened I was, as I was running I tripped over that seemed to be hard almost as if it was a bone. I fell forward and landed on my face, having my face painted towards the grassy muddy ground. As soon as I tried to get myself up something was licking my ear and screamed so loud that my echo was heard in the valley. I looked to where it was licking my ear and noticed it was a black dog with grey eyes. I was trying to figure out if he was a wolf or a dog but then I noticed his tongue and teeth and knew it was a dog. The dog seemed to want to play with me he immediately continued to lick me as I was scared for my life. I finally got up and walked away because I just wanted to go home where I was safe. The dog continued to follow me right behind me every step of the way. I began to run so that he stopped following but I was wrong he ran with me and even faster than me. He continued to follow me until I was home, I stepped inside my house and he wanted to step inside too. At that point I felt really bad for the dog and let him in. Something about this dog brought my attention so I decided that I would keep him as my
As I inched my way toward the cliff, my legs were shaking uncontrollably. I could feel the coldness of the rock beneath my feet when my toes curled around the edge in one last futile attempt at survival. My heart was racing like a trapped bird, desperate to escape. Gazing down the sheer drop, I nearly fainted; my entire life flashed before my eyes. I could hear stones breaking free and fiercely tumbling down the hillside, plummeting into the dark abyss of the forbidding black water. The trees began to rapidly close in around me in a suffocating clench, and the piercing screams from my friends did little to ease the pain. The cool breeze felt like needles upon my bare skin, leaving a trail of goose bumps. The threatening mountains surrounding me seemed to grow more sinister with each passing moment, I felt myself fighting for air. The hot summer sun began to blacken while misty clouds loomed overhead. Trembling with anxiety, I shut my eyes, murmuring one last pathetic prayer. I gathered my last breath, hoping it would last a lifetime, took a step back and plun...
As I was squatting there in my little ditch while the snow rose about another inch I barely heard the sound of my grandma’s voice yelling my name. The cat had heard it too and scurried away; even though the cat was running away I was still not able to move because my legs would not work and I heard the sound of crunching footsteps coming from behind me looking for me but, I was still so scared that I realized that I came close to a wild animal that could really hurt me even though I thought that no animal could come into my grandparent’s property with the six foot high fence that surrounded the ten
The child’s game had ended. After I nearly ran Kurtz over, we stood facing each other. He was unsteady on his feet, swaying like the trees that surrounded us. What stood before me was a ghost. Each layer of him had been carved away by the jungle, until nothing remained. Despite this, his strength still exceeded that of my own. With the tribal fires burning so close, one shout from him would unleash his natives on me. But in that same realization, I felt my own strength kindle inside me. I could just as easily muffle his command and overtake him. The scene flashed past my eyes as though I was remembering not imagining. The stick that lay two feet from me was beating down on the ghost, as my bloodied hand strangled his cries. My mind abruptly reeled backwards as I realized what unspeakable dark thoughts I had let in. Kurtz seemed to understand where my mind had wandered; it was as though the jungle’s wind has whispered my internal struggles to him. His face twisted into a smile. He seemed to gloat and enjoy standing by to watch my soul begin to destroy itself.
It was just a normal day. I was living at home with only me, John, and my mom. My dad had died trying to protect the village from a wild animal from the forest. My mom wanted me to go to the market and get some food. So I did. As I made it to the market I could see all of the things being traded. I went to were the food was being traded and traded some stuff for some food. As returned home I noticed a couple of strange voices I didn’t notice. I walked into the house. It got dead silent. Then all last I heard were gunshots until everything went black.
As the bushes and brush grew more solid I began to ponder. Will I make it through this forest tonight or will I be taken in by the thick of the mystery? Sounds from sluggish foot steps caused a vibration around me that lead me to stop in my place and listen closely. Could this forest be haunted or was I just over exaggerating? I started to get very nervous by this time. “It will be just fine,” I told myself. I am just imagining things. I continued my journey through the forest but negative thoughts were running through my l...
One day, there was a man, walking through the woods to get back home. The man had quite a way to go to get back home but, it was getting late, and all he had was a flashlight, a small knife, and a video recorder. The man was hearing weirder and weirder noises as he was walking, he was also starting to see weird shapes in the distance, almost as if it was a tall thin man looking at him with tentacle like things coming out of his back, and spreading in the air.
