Triston Thompson Crossing paths with a mountain lion really changed my perception of how dangerous the wilderness was. I was wearing my black and red striped sweater that had a little hole under my left armpit with my charcoal black sweats that barely covered my ankles due to the shortness in length and wearing my favorite black and white sketchers which were ripped by the toes so, I was able to stick my big toe out of my show. I was walking around the edge of my grandparents ten acre property at around noon because the world around me was really bright, with every step I took crunched due to the deepness of the pale white ice which covered the floor about four inches deep. As I walked around with a crunch after every foot step I soon …show more content…
It looked up then it looked back down in front of it giving some sort of deathly gaze to whatever had the attention of this preadator. I do not know what it was staring at but, whatever it was looking at must have really been something small or delicious. As I was squatting there in my little ditch while the snow rose about another inch I barely heard the sound of my grandma’s voice yelling my name. The cat had heard it too and scurried away; even though the cat was running away I was still not able to move because my legs would not work and I heard the sound of crunching footsteps coming from behind me looking for me but, I was still so scared that I realized that I came close to a wild animal that could really hurt me even though I thought that no animal could come into my grandparent’s property with the six foot high fence that surrounded the ten …show more content…
I do not remember how I got that little cut because I do not remember being scratched. As I laid there wrapped up in my very bright lime green colored blanket I realized that I can across a beautiful yet deadly beast. My grandma came into the room and gave me a big hug because she thought that I wondered off of the property into one of the neighbor’s property and had got lost in the woods. I did not tell my grandma what I saw because I thought that if I told her then I would not be able to go outside again. She had asked me why I was laying in the snow with my eyes closed and I told her that I saw going to make a snow angel but got tired from walking around. She said that I had only been gone for maybe ten minutes and I smiled and said yes. This had changed my perception of nature because I thought that all animals were nice and I did not think that I could be hurt by any of them. Seeing that cat with that red gooey stuff running from its mouth showed me that nature could hurt me if I was not
I woke up early in the morning with pure excitement. Today, I was heading to Cedar Point with my long time close friend, Sarah. The sun was shining, it was the perfect mood to go to an amusement park. My mom and I drove through the flat cornfields of Ohio, to her farmhouse. Once I picked up Sarah, we were headed to America’s Rockin’ Roller-Coast also known as Cedar Point. Cedar Point is on a peninsula surrounded by the fresh waters of Lake Erie located . It's actually quite nice, if you don't include the often high winds which often force the employees to close the rides due to the high risk of liability and the frequent nats. The Dragster is sitting smack dab in the middle of the park's midway. The height makes the dragster something that you can’t miss, especially on the causeway.
My dad and I go hunting every weekend during deer season which is from mid of Novmber to the first of Janurary. We go sit at 6:00am and we leave at 8:00am,but why we sit we will be wacthing birds and squirrals playing in the place we have corn they will eat it like deer does.We half to sit still were the deer can’t see us in the deer stand. When we go hunting you have to climb up in the deer stand and then sit patiertly to wait for something to come out of the woods. We look three or four different way in the stand.”My dad stated,” theres a deer.We go hunting in Pearson Georgia. When we go hunting we have to be careful because the gun could go off.It could be dangous going hunting by yourself. But if anything happen I can help him.Because we
I am sitting in the passenger side as my dad is driving, and we are on our way to my grandpa's land which is located about 25 minutes east of Dubuque. First thing we do when we get there is to finish putting on our coats, and then to grab our bows out of the back, then I close my door softly. Walking through the open field I have dead weeds and tall grass crunching under my boots, and at the end of the field we reach a barbed wire fence that we crawl under. Then we cross under a bunch of pine trees and go about 30 yards into the woods to where my tree stand sits. Then my dad tells me good luck and he heads down into the gully where his stand is located. So I then climb the 12 foot ladder and sit on the seat and put on my safety belt and get my arrow ready on the bow string. I survey the land and look for any movement, so I look to the left where there is another set of pine trees, then I look in front of me into the first set of pine trees don't see anything yet. Then I hear a sound of crunching leaves and immediately look to my right and sure enough there is a big doe getting ready to cross the fence 15 yards away.
On a cold winter day, my family was getting ready to meet at my grandma’s house like we had done our whole lives. Christmas was one of the most important days of the year for the Robertson’s. Each aunt made entrées and deserts along with the delicious food that my grandma made each year. Food and family were the two main reasons everyone loved Christmas. On the way to Triune where my family lives, my mother started to cry which I thought was odd for
Tiredly, I woke up the next morning with it still as dark as night (SM). Packing quickly, I made sandwiches to eat and headed out to the deer stand with my dad (PP). I like where we hunt because it’s an open field surrounded by tall pine trees and marshy land. It’s kind of a long hike to the stand from the road, so when I walked down the road to our stand I took small strides to muffle the crunchy leaves. I wanted to walk as silent as a mouse to increase my chance of that trophy buck, about halfway there I noticed a cool breeze flow down my back, this gave me the chills. My body wracked with exhaustion, because I hunted with a 300 win mag, so by the time we got to the stand my back
We were interrupted by a phone call from my dad. My mom was still joking and in a silly mood when she started talking to my dad. Suddenly the conversation turned from joking to dead silence and my mom started crying. She tearfully asked, "Is she ok? Was she alone?" I was thinking my sister went riding and fell off her horse or that something had happened to my grandma.
You can’t see anything around you and there are animals that could attack you. I was on my way home riding my bike. I was as scared as a mouse being chased by a cat. Suddenly, I felt my hip vibrating. It was my phone and I got a text from my mother. She said, “Where are you! You are super late!” I had to stop and text her back because I knew she would get mad at me if I didn’t. Then she texted me again and I had to stop, and again, and again. With her texting me I thought I would never get home. Then I decided that I wouldn’t text her and try to get home as fast as possible. That was a mistake that I will never make
Three inches of fresh snow fell last night, creating a blanket of freshness that reflects the last rays of moonlight. As we drive into our property we see fresh deer tracks and my heart starts pumping, I have been away from Wisconsin for a few months and this morning is the first time I entered these woods since September. A few hundred yards into the woods we jump three deer walking the road. They bound off into the darkness in flashes of brown silhouetted by snow. We park...
For the first hour I had caught a few fish peacefully, then about two or so hours I felt as if I was being watched. I immediately had an uneasy feeling, but couldn’t explain why; sometime later that same hour I began to smell smoke or what I thought was smoke and heard what sounded like the cries of wolves or coyotes. Terrified I fled back to the Fort and didn’t stop, by the time I reached the fort I had driven my horse into his grave. Once inside that uneasy feeling didn’t go away; it was apparent that I was spooked and was questioned by the trackers what was wrong. I explained to them that I had gone fishing and up the Hudson by myself and that I had become paranoid thinking I was being watched.
A self proclaimed tree-hugger, I could go on and on about the healing that can come from a day in the great outdoors, breathing in the fresh air, surrounded by unspeakable beauty, and far removed from the chaos. After a long (arduous, but rewarding) hike on the Inca Trail I learned just how intense of a connection you can make with the world around you if you just stop and give yourself the time to take it all in. Undeniable is the powerful force that is nature.
My eyes lifted open. The light wind brushing against my face, the dewy, dirty grass making my bare feet wet and chalky, Large trees surrounded the area i was in, i couldn’t make out the type, or color of the trees as the towered above me, creating looming shadows of the moons bright light. An approaching deer, from the inside of the deep, deep dark forest emerged. It batted its large eyelids, flicked its ears also. I slowly approached, the deer's legs trembled, as it obviously wanted to lose my gaze, escape from this slowly approaching man.
The ruckus from the bottom of the truck is unbearable, because of the noise and excessive shaking. As we slowly climbed the mountain road to reach our lovely cabin, it seemed almost impossible to reach the top, but every time we reached it safely. The rocks and deep potholes shook the truck and the people in it, like a paint mixer. Every window in the truck was rolled down so we could have some leverage to hold on and not loose our grip we needed so greatly. The fresh clean mountain air entered the truck; it smelt as if we were lost: nowhere close to home. It was a feeling of relief to get away from all the problems at home. The road was deeply covered with huge pines and baby aspen trees. Closely examining the surrounding, it looks as if it did the last time we were up here.
My father's eyes opened, and he called out for my sister Kelly and I to come to him. In a very serious and sad voice, he told us that he was very sick, and he was going to the Fort Wayne hospital. My mother told Kelly and I to help her pack some things for him, because he was going to be leaving soon. We helped her pack, keeping quiet because we did not want to interrupt the silence that had taken over the room.
Many years ago when I was a freshman in high school, an event happened to me that changed my life for the better. My friend invited me to go hiking with him and his sister. He was going to go hiking in Yosemite. The following day I prepared myself mentally and physically in order to accomplish this hike.
Finally, we arrived at our destination. I left the car leaving my parents and little brother behind and ran up the steps to my grandma’s house. I just had to be the first one to knock on her door, so I did. She opened the door for me, and I went inside parting with the bitter cold and darkness surrounding me. Inside the house I was immediately encircled with the aromas of her Christmas cooking and baking. A real fresh Christmas tree which was already beautifully adorned with old family ornaments perforated the air with more holiday aromas. I went into the kitchen with my mom, and together we helped my grandma finish preparing the Christmas Eve dinner.
