The public transport system in Doha, Qatar is still developing, but is not yet as widespread as in many other cities. With cheap fuel and cars, and increasing road networks, cars remain the most used method of travel.
There is an improving bus system in Doha, and a taxi service that is government ran, but is fairly new and has been overly used at rush hours.
There are no train, tram or metro systems in use in Qatar. A Metro is planned for Doha, but is not set for completion for several years.
Transportation by air plane is has a great global reputation informed by the Qatar Airways fleet, and Doha is the heart of it all.
Buses
-To travel on a bus, passengers must buy a Karwa Smartcard, which replaced the use of cash in early 2011. The cards are swiped when boarding and departing the buses, than the fee for the trip is charged.
-In Doha, services run from early morning to midnight.
-The seats at the front are reserved for women and children.
-The Buses can be boarded from specific stops all around the city, or can be caught on major intercity highways.
Taxis
-Pickups can be arranged by calling, but you may wait a long time for a taxi to arrive.
- Cabs also meet for services at malls and hotels, and this is usually the best way to get a ride even though the wait may take a while.
-All cabs are metered.
Air
-Doha International is the country’s main airport and is located 3 miles south of the cities center.
-Qatar Airways flies to over 100 destinations around the world.
-New Doha International is a new airport located 2.5 miles east of the present airport, and is under construction. It is scheduled to open sometime after 2015 replacing Doha International.
