What are the beneficial or negative results (e.g. financially, environmentally and socially) to California by having a HSR train?
There are many positive aspects to having a HSR in California. First, after the HSR is completed most people will choose to ride the HSR than flying or driving. The HSR will be efficient, convenient, reliable, and environmentally healthy for citizens of California. HSR will minimize carbon dioxide from vehicles and greyhound’s buses (Pettinger, 2013). HSR will benefit both businesses and vacation travelers because it will allow them easy and quick access to a range of California cultural and tourist attractions, sporting events, and recreational destinations. maintenance of the system as well as construction and development surrounding HSR stations will help the economy and citizens of California. The Authority projected that construction of the system will create 450,000 permanent jobs through the first phase from San Francisco to Los Angeles (Railroad, 2011). Also, the time of travel from San Francisco to Los Angeles will reduce. Having the HSR will have a better safety record than on the roads and accidents with death will decrease. People will be able to work in a city and live in another across the state, where the cost of living may be lower than in where they might work. Although there will be negative aspects of having the HSR in California because there might be people who prefer to drive then own vehicle. Travelers will prefer to stop, rest, and grab something to eat while they are traveling and with the HSR that will not be possible. Also, many people might not be able to afford the ticket to travel on the HSR constantly. Many people can now work on the computer away from the office; therefore, not needing to travel or use the HSR. What are the beneficial or negative results (e.g. financially, environmentally and socially) to Fresno by having a HSR train? Fresno will recognize positive results similar to other cities cross the state of California.
The Central Valley is also one of the poorest areas of the state. For example, the unemployment rate near the end of 2014 in Fresno County was 2.2% higher than the statewide average, the five poorest metro areas in the country; three are in the Central Valley (HSR Business Plan, 2016). The HSR system has the potential to significantly improve this region and its economy in the form of constructions worker and HSR station workers. In addition to jobs and income levels in general, the presence of HSR is expected to benefit the growth in smaller cities around the HSR …show more content…
stations. Another positive for the HSR in Fresno and the Central Valley will be that if people use the HSR during the time of fog it will reduce accidents. In January of 2017, about 40 vehicles ranging in form small passenger’s car to big rig trucks were involved in chain reaction crashes, but there were no fatalities in highway 198 due to fog (Alexander, 2017). There have been other times where fatalities do occur due to fog, but with the HSR now people will be safer in the rain than on the roads. HSR will improve air quality in the State. Residents of the Central Valley endure air quality linked to increased rates of asthma and other respiratory ailments. Fresno initiated the preparation of two new plans, the Fulton Corridor Specific Plan, and the Downtown Neighborhoods Community Plan (HSR Business Plan, 2016). The plans will incorporate extensive outreach and will focus on the incorporation of an HST station, and attraction and expansion of businesses. The HSR will bring more people to Fresno and it most likely will have an impact on real-estate and on small business in the city (HSR Business Plan, 2016). Negative results for Fresno are also similar to those for the entire state of California. Tickets for the HSR may be too expense as oppose to taking an alternative way of traveling and, if the tickets are too low than the HSR will not be successful. Framers do not agree with the HSR because the HSR has taken their land to build the train. This situation has caused farmer to lose crops, lose money, and lay off farmer workers. Farm workers are out of work due to the HSR and many families are being affected. Also, during the construction of the HSR will cause accidents because of heavy traffic around the construction and driver becoming frustrated. Should the Firm participate in the HSR project? That is, what are your conclusions and recommendations. There are positive and negative aspects of the HSR in California and major cities.
At first, the HSR will be expensive and many people will be affected by it in a negative way, but eventually people will see the positive side. There will be a lot of construction causing headache for drivers and in the Central Valley farm workers may lose their job. After the HSR is up and running, the positive will start to show economically and environmentally. There will be many jobs in the station and business around as well the air quality will improve and less vehicle accidents will occur. Business individuals will be more able to get from one large city to another in less time than by driving or flying. The Firm should participate in the HSR project because the firm will benefit greatly. The project is estimated to be $64 billion, but the return is likely to double within the first five years of operations (HSR Business Plan, 2016). Also, after there has been a significant profit the Firm can then participate in the extension of the HSR toward Sacramento and San
Diego. Many people fear that tickets for the HSR might be too expensive especially for the everyday traveler. One specific thing that the firm and the HSR can do to have traveler use the HSR more than driving and flying is to have promotions for riding. Also, there might be a package in where travelers pay a certain amount and they will be able to travel with that pass for a month, for six months, or for an entire year as many times as they want. Another way to increasing the usage of the HSR is to have promotions from television and radio stations where they raffle tickets for people to use the HSR. These types of promotional raffle can also include a destination to one of the many tourist places that California has to offer. HSR will help the economy in the future as well. Technology is advancing quickly and in the future, someone might come up with a new technology in where passengers enjoy their ride to the fullest. This can have positive impact on how more people will take the HSR as there form of transportation. In other countries that have a HSR they remodel there interior so that passenger can a remarkable riding experience and California will do the same. Also, in other countries HSR has been successful and no major problems or accidents have occurred. The HSR in Japan has been extending since the HSR was build, and the same plan is for the HSR in California to be extended to other states. If other states decide to build a HSR in there states the plan will to connect all the HSRs together. Another reason some people do not want the HSR is because of the traffic during construction, but the construction will not be forever. Construction workers have made it easier for drivers to get to their destination by rerouting them to the fastest alternative route. These types of alternative routes will also be available through local news media and news media websites. A positive aspect of construction is that most of the construction will be during the night and on weekends; therefore, during usual commute hours to and from worker will be less stressful for drivers. Construction will only be for a few months and after the HSR is completed, travelers will be able to enjoy the comforts the HSR in California.
Crime data is a resource being used to help understand who the victims are, their age, race, what type of crime they have committed. The more information someone has about crime the more prepared they can be to deal with the victim, evaluate programs that help prevent crime. There are several official sources used UCR, NCVS, NIBRS that are used. There are pros and cons to each source and the following information will include some of the positive and some of the negatives points of each report. This is not inclusive by any means, there are many different various pros and cons of each report.
In Henry George’s article, What the Railroad Will Bring Us, it discusses the main social, political, and economic transformations that the trans-continental railroad would bring to the state of California. More importantly, he discusses not only the benefits, but also discusses the major drawbacks with the arrival of the railroad. Henry George stated the railroad would be the “greatest work of the age” (297). With a railroad stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific, multiple benefits would be brought to the state of California. First, the railroad will not only create a new means of transportation across the United States, it additionally would also become “one of the greatest material prosperity” of its time (298). This means more people, more houses,
The PMRC (Parent Music Resource Center) was formed by Mary “Tipper” Gore, Susan Baker, Pam Howar, Sally Nevius, or also known as “The Washington Wife’s” due to their husband’s connections with the government in the D.C Area. They created the group due to the concern to some of the contents in musician’s lyrics. In hope of increasing control over the music children would be exposed to.
The FBI’s UCR Program, which began in 1929, collects information on the following crimes reported to law enforcement authorities: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. Law enforcement agencies report arrest data for 21 additional crime categories.
The construction of railroads in California impacted the state physically, socially, and economically; and ultimately helped propel California into the state it is today. During a time when masses of people were migrating to California but were doing so in an inefficient, and sometimes dangerous way, the first transcontinental railroad provided a fast and easier alternative. During the 1850's and 60's California was booming as many people from across the country uprooted their lives and headed west to begin a new life and attempt to strike it rich. Covered wagons were not an ideal way of travel but were the only way to go until the railroads were constructed.
Health Information Exchange (HIE) was introduced by President Bush in 2004 (Kruse, Regier & Rheinboldt, 2014) so it is not a new concept. HIE is instrumental in gaining overall population health as it can lead to a reduction in healthcare costs, increase patient safety, and increase health outcomes. Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs) are a conglomerate of healthcare providers and patients in a region that exchange healthcare information with the goal of delivering quality care to the individuals they serve. This paper will discuss the pros and cons of RHIOs, key challenges in gaining long term viability, and provide ways in which capital is raised to support HIE.
Unemployment in the city limits further feeds the belly of poverty. Unemployment rates for Richmond in August 2013 were 8.2% (United States Department of Labor, 2013). These rates represent only those that are documented as unemployed and does not consider the “under employed” as they may be working but not getting paid for a full work week. These unemployment rates would likely be higher if they were accurate and all inclusive of the unemployed in Richmond. The unemployment rate for the entire state of Virginia was reported at 5.8% in August 2013 (United States Department of Labor). The unemployment rate is related to education. There are not enough good paying jobs to support those who did not finish basic high school. There are not enough good paying jobs to reach citizens of the city that do not have adequate transportation.
Meaningful Use and the EHR Many new technologies are being used in health organizations across the nation, which are being utilized to help improve the quality of health care. Electronic Health Records (EHRs) play a critical role in improving access, quality and efficiency of healthcare ("Electronic health records," 2014). In order to assist in expanding the use of EHR’s, in 2011 the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS), instituted an EHR incentive program called the Meaningful Use Program. This program was instituted to encourage and expand the use of the HER, by providing health professionals and health organizations yearly incentive payments when they demonstrate meaningful use of the EHR ("Medicare and Medicaid," 2014).
Did you ever think about how much time is spent on computers and the internet? It is estimated that the average adult will spend over five hours per day online or with digital media according to Emarketer.com. This is a significant amount; taking into consideration the internet has not always been this easily accessible. The world that we live in is slowly or quickly however you look at it: becoming technology based and it is shifting the way we live. With each day more and more people use social media, shop online, run businesses, take online classes, play games, the list is endless. The internet serves billions of people daily and it doesn’t stop there. Without technology and the internet, there would be no electronic health record. Therefore, is it important for hospitals and other institutions to adopt the electronic health record (EHR) system? Whichever happens, there are many debates about EHR’s and their purpose, and this paper is going to explain both the benefits and disadvantages of the EHR. Global users of the internet can then decide whether the EHR is beneficial or detrimental to our ever changing healthcare system and technology based living.
Geographically speaking, vulnerable populaces in California include racial and ethnic minorities, undocumented immigrants, and households living below the poverty level. The state of California has the highest poverty rate of all states in the nation, at 23.5% (Sankin, 2012), with the county of Fresno having a per capita household income of less than $21,000 annually (Demographics at a glance, 2014). These demographics project that by the year 2020, 75% of Fresno County...
Deregulating transportation would have several benefits to American motorists and pedestrians. By deregulation of transportation I mean having very limited traffic laws. This entails removing most traffic signs, specifically those that inform drivers of the laws. In addition, all traffic control devices should be removed, this includes: traffic signals, speed bumps, rumble strips and other traffic control features. Even though opponents say this would cause complete anarchy on the road, traffic laws and control devices should be removed. Eradicating laws leads to safer driving habits and removing control devices and excessive signage increases the attention of drivers.

No matter what any politician in Washington or employee of the Federal Highway Administration may say, there is a serious and immediate problem with our nation's transportation systems. The Texas Transportation Institute has recently done several studies that have produced some very alarming results. For example, the average American spends approximately 26 hours a year stuck in traffic. Let?s think about that. The ?average? American spends this long cruising at five miles per hour and cursing at other cars around. By saying average, the study means this figure also takes into account people living in rural areas who spend maybe one hour a year stuck in traffic. That means for the majority of us, in the Phoenix area and other large cities, we spend 3 or 4 times more wasting our valuable time in traffic. For people who drive into the city everyday for work, it might even be worse (Fay 3). Now that?s a lot of time if you ask me.
When you encounter a city such as Chicago, it is practically impossible to avoid CTA and Metra trains. From short store errands to long journeys home, the CTA is there as your personal downtown car. If you do not have enough money to put into owning a car or simply do not want to put up with trying to find parking in the congested city, the CTA is there for you. Where more people to use the CTA, the amount of gas polluting the earth would significantly decrease the pollution levels in Chicago. Since there aren't as many cars on the road, it not only decreases the carbon monoxide leaking from cars but the amount of cars on the road, which also decreases the amount of people on the road. Numerous laws state how using the CTA could benefit people in Chicago overall. These are just some of the reasons Metra and the CTA has impacted everything from population to economics and even political and environmental issues.
California is one of the major states that contains a vast population of people in the United States. It is known to contain big cities, celebrities, and movies. In fact, it is also a state that contains thousands of people living in poverty. I conducted an analysis on Santa Cruz county cities Santa Cruz and Watsonville. In my findings, I saw that Santa Cruz is considered to be the wealthy city, whereas Watsonville is the poorest within the county.
