The Dark Web
A multitude of people have never heard of one of the most dangerous places in the world, and it is not on land. The dark web, also considered the deep web, is a hidden part of the internet which is undetected by search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. The dark web is not accessible without special browsers. The dark web is estimated to be 4,000–5,000 times larger than the web that is familiar to most people (Finklea 2015). Although the dark web is good for being anonymous, it is being used by too many people for illegal issues. These include: drugs, guns, murders, hitmen, and a numerous amount of other issues. Some people who use the dark web believe it is good because it gives one anonymity. However, a person has to be smart

But why do people want to go on the dark web? People go on the dark web primarily for two reasons: to perform illegal activities without getting caught, and privacy use. As of 2014, every person on the internet is being tracked in some way. The government uses information such as cookies, search engines, and download managers to track what people are doing (Henderson 2012). Although it is unusual to be getting tracked, as long as a person is properly using the dark web, they should have no issues. With the unlikelihood of a person being tracked, one may dig deeper into the dark web due to curiosity. Just being allowed to access the dark web puts people in danger of being part of illegal …show more content…
People paid over $100 billion, since the start of the silk road, for guns and prostitutes alone (Rolling Stone 2015). These are not just small pistols, these include guns like the Ak47, M16, and even missile launchers such as the RPG. With the high demand for guns, they are fairly cheap. For some reason, sellers have a high supply of guns which make the price cheaper. However, guns are not the only problem. Prostitution is a very “popular” thing on the dark web. When people, mostly men, are alone and want a companion, they buy a prostitute off the Dark Web. This is actually a scary subject. What if the girls are stolen and sold off? 600,000 to 800,000 prostitutes are shipped per year (Rolling Stone 2015). Everyone knows that prostitution is a problem in many places around the world, but most people do not understand that is a serious issue on the “dark side of the
As victim count continues to rise, its difficult to see how such great numbers of men, women and children are bought and sold every year. Trafficking can be found in many forms, including: prostitution, slavery, or forced labor (Harf and Lombardi, 2014). It wasn’t until the 1980’s that international human trafficking became globally noticed. With the lack of government intervention and control in several nations, and the free trade market, slavery once again became a profitable industry (Harf and Lombardi, 2014). As previously mentioned, easier movement across nations borders is one of the outcomes of globalization. It is also what makes human trafficking so easy today. It is estimated that about 20.9 million people are victims across the entire globe (United Nations Publications, 2012); trafficking accounts for 32 billion dollars in generated profit globally (Brewer, n.d). 58 percent of all human trafficking was for the purpose of sexual exploitation, and of this 55-60 percent are women (United Nations Publications,
Human trafficking has been entwined into the structure of governments, arms trade, drug trade, and even spreads as far as terrorism. For many years it has been a fact that the money that has been made by selling other humans to the highest bidder. It is also known that the organized crime operations generate one of the most profitable resources to the organization. These organizations use this money for theirs or other’s crime and end up in the hands of drug lords. Drug lords, in order to promote their own business give money to support terrorist groups and activities. Security after September 11, 2001 has recognized human trafficking as a national and international security risk.
One shining example of the dark side of the net is known as the “deep web.” Charlie Fripp of IT News Africa writes that the deep web is “a collection of webpages that are not indexed by search engines, or content that is not part of the Surface Web.” The deep web is said to be many hundreds of times bigger than the surface web, or the web that we can normally access at any given time. To access the deep web, you need client side programs, like Freenet or the Tor Browser. Currently, the program with the most exposure would have to be the Tor browser – but not for any good reasons at all.
According to Van Wormer & Bartollas (2014), sex trafficking, “encompasses the organized movement of people, usually women, between countries and within countries for sex work” (p. 289). Sex trafficking is also a very lucrative business, it is estimated to make $31. 6 billion annually. This amount is estimated from the 2.5 million people who a trafficked each year. The exact number of people who are victims of the sex industry cannot be predicted accurately for all over the world. In the United States alone there is about 14,500-17,500 people trafficked each year. Human trafficking it the third biggest organized crime after drug and arms trafficking (Hodge, 2014). Young men make up about 44% of people being trafficked, while women and girls
Prostitution is said to be the world’s oldest profession. Often prostitutes are thought to be seductively dressed women standing on the street corner calling out offerings of a good time in exchange for payment. That is an accurate depiction however, it is just part of the massive sex industry’s variety of marketing tools used in prostitution. The women and young girls standing on the corner are but a small fraction of a much larger picture and harsher reality.
When most of us think about the sex industry, we think of prostitution or pornography. Usually people in that line of work chose to be in it, but that is not always the case. Human sex trafficking has become the fasted growing business among organized crime, and the third largest enterprise in the world, generating more than $31 billion dollars in profit a year, according to the FBI. Sex trafficking is the most common form of modern day slavery; in the U.S. it consists of mostly women and children between the ages of 12-18. They are sold and sometimes transported to other countries.
Sex trafficking is essentially systemic rape for profit. Force, fraud and coercion are used to control the victim’s behavior which may secure the appearance of consent to please the buyer (or john). Behind every transaction is violence or the threat of violence (Axtell par. 4). Just a decade ago, only a third of the countries studied by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime had legislation against human trafficking. (Darker Side, par.1) Women, children, and even men are taken from their homes, and off of the streets and are brought into a life that is almost impossible to get out of. This life is not one of choice, it is in most times by force. UNODC estimates that the total international human trafficking is a $32-billion-per-year business, and that 79% of this activity comprises sexual exploitation. As many as 2 million children a year are victims of commercial sexual exploitation, according the the U.S. State Department.-- Cynthia G. Wagner. (Darker Side, par. 4) The words prostitute, pimp, escort, and stripper tend to be way too common in the American everyday vocabulary. People use these words in a joking manner, but sex trafficking is far from a joke. Everyday, from all different countries, people are bought and sold either by force or false promises. Some are kidnapped and others come to America with dreams of a dream life and job. The buyers involved in the trade will do anything to purchase an innocent life just to sell for their own selfish profit. Many people wouldn’t think of a human body to be something you can buy in the back room of a business or even online. But those plus the streets are where people are sold most often. There are many reasons and causes for sex trafficking. The factors behind sex traffic...
Sexual traffickers often recruit children because not only are children more unsuspecting and vulnerable than adults, but there is also a high market demand for young victims. Traffickers target victims on the telephone, social media, through friends, at the mall, and in extracurricular programs. Many traffickers train these young women, such as raping them and forcing them to learn sexual acts. A 2003 study in the Netherlands found that, on average, a single sex slave earned her pimp at least $250,000 a year. Svitlana Batsyukova differentiates sex slavery from prostitution (2007) in that prostitutes typically interact in their trade at their own free will and are monetarily compensated.
First, the internet has put many lives in danger from kids, to adults. The internet is a place where many killers hide themselves in. Many adults and teenagers never know who is hiding behind the internet. Many people chat on the internet to meet someone but

The new age of technology was born late last century in the form of the silicone chip. Since this early invention computers have progressed in leaps and bounds from the very basic early models to the now very complicated and very powerful computers of today. In between this growth the Internet developed into a mega market where billions of dollars are traded daily. It is a place where you can pretty much buy and sell anything you can think of. But with the development of such a powerful tool there are always going to be problems such as pornography, hackers, dodgy chat rooms and authenticity of information. But like with any argument you have to weigh up the good with the bad, the internet provides you with a wealth of information so that you can find out much on many different products, allows businesses to function so much more efficiently, there is also the availability of online learning.

The Internet is, “a vast computer network linking smaller computer networks throughout the world.” (dictionary.com) Everyday millions of people use the Internet in order to communicate, to work, to research information, and educate themselves. (internetworldstats.com) The popularity of the Internet has caused the world to become more dependent on the information that is searched. Some countries’ governments believe that although the Internet is one of the top worldwide researching databases, its lacking in privacy has created unnecessarily high security risks and has had a negative if not harmful affect on their society. (techcrunch.com) One example of this lack of privacy would be that research found on the Internet can be accessed from any country in the world. Many countries view being able to access information from an...
Why do people use the internet? The internet is a massive encyclopedia of information and its even better in some ways. The volume of the information that you will find in the internet is outstanding. For every topic that pops in your mind then you will sure be able to find it in the internet, because there is always someone that has written about it. The internet can offer you a series of different perspectives on a single topic. As a matter of fact you can even connect to an online encyclopedia. A lot of them offer you a subscription service that helps you search through the full text of the encyclopedia. One of the good things about the internet is that it shares with you information that probably you would have to pay to find out or learn it from less convenient mediums.
There are a lot of people in this world that uses computers and the internet all day, everyday. A lot of us use it at school, at work, and even at home. Computers have made our whole life easier and has brought plenty of benefits to society and plenty of problems like cybercrimes. The internet seem like a type of community of computer networks, however you could consider it a society. There is education, commerce, entertainment (good and bad), and there is crime, cybercrime. Cybercrime is impossible without the use of the internet. Real life society has police and laws to regulate people actions, unfortunately right now the internet is missing this type of control.
