In the election cycle of 2016, one of the nominees, Donald Trump. proposed a strong immigration policy, including “an impenetrable physical wall,” the end of so-called catch and release programs, and a mass deportation of “criminal immigrants”(Trump). This caused a sort of a controversy and brought immigration policy to the forefront again, as it does during every election cycle. It is a policy that strongly deeds both political sides. Illegal Immigration is not good for the United States and is a burden to the US economy, and an unnecessary risk to the lives and property of US citizens.
Illegal immigration is a burden to the U.S. Economy. An article from reason.com, written by Ed Krayewski argues that “Illegal Immigration is good for the economy,” and that “Illegal Immigrants already pay taxes” (Krayewski). The idea the Illegal Immigrants already pay taxes is indeed a true one with the Social Security Association noting in 2013, that Illegal Immigrants pay approximately twelve billion dollars a year. This may sound like a lot of money, and it is, but it is a drop in the bucket when you compare it to the $113 billion that Illegal Immigrants cost both Federal and State/Local Governments. This number is according to a study done by FAIRUS in 2013. It states the almost one-half of this number, 52 billion, is for the education of the children of illegal immigrants. One such case of this is Rolando Mota-Campos. He was put in prison for multiple things including kidnapping, and threatening to decapitate someone with a machete. He said to America that he if gets deported again, he will come back. He has been deported three times and has come back each and every time that he has been deported. There are many cases of illegal immigrants doing crimes, getting deported, and then returning to the United States illegally. The number of crimes that they commit is extremely high considering what percent of the population they make up.
