Over the past years Employment has been a big factor when it comes to race. Many Americans face hard times getting employment because of their ethnicity. Others struggle the race discrimination at the workplace. It could also be said that the minimum wage is another factor in this. Considering the discrimination between race and gender.
As we have seen so many stories of people not getting hired or being discriminated. As a result this people get discriminated because of the color of their skin or ethnicity. Many people face this issues when they go to places, and apply or attend interviews. When people go and apply we always put our race, and if you don’t summit that well in the last name, and first name we can identify . What I’m trying to say is if people refuse to do that part in the application sometimes with the last name people get discriminated as well. For these reasons people get discriminated and don’t get hired. I want to point out a store that is really famous is called Hollister. This store used to be racist when people went to the interviews they would only hired white people and Hispanics, blacks and Asians were not allowed. RACE: SMOKE AND MIRRORS The study of race and its social formation in the article "Racial Formations" by Michael Omi and Howard Winant challenge our socially accepted concepts of "race", race being defined as the social categorization of black, white, yellow and red people. We all have heard regarding the controversial arguments and debates regarding whether affirmative action is valid under U.S. Constitution. Before discussing whether to support or refute affirmative action, there is a need for all of us to know what affirmative action really is. By definition, affirmative action policies are those institutions and organizations vigorously engages in an effort work of improving the lives of minorities in the United States (NCSL). This means that institutions attempt to find ways to provide groups that have been historically excluded from American society equal accesses to public necessities such as education, salary pay, and so forth. To me, the application of the affirmative action in the society we live in clearly violates the Fourteenth Amendment, which forbids authorities to “deny...any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws” (The Library of Congress). Throughout this research paper we will go into details and explain four reasons why affirmative action violates the Fourteenth Amendments and should be unconstitutional. These reasons are as follows: the development of reverse discrimination, the creation of stigma against women and minorities, the buildup of racial tension, and the fact of attempting to solve a racial problem that no longer exist.
During this course, this author has been taught about various social issues in today’s society as a whole. Some of these issues include perception of race and culture, poverty, social inequality, urbanization, and more. After exploring all these issues and more, this author has chosen to finish his last assignment on racial discrimination and Hispanic Americans. This author decided upon this specific issue because he has observed this in almost every town or city he has visited as a truck driver. This author thinks it is unfortunate that minorities are still treated unfairly. As citizens of the United States of America, it is useful to become educated on what racial discrimination is and see how it is applied in everyday life. This author decided to investigate this issue and determined the genuineness and voluminous of it.
Institutions in the businesses sector are swarming in racial discrimination, much of which is covert and difficult to detect and prove. Racial discrimination excludes, marginalizes and exploits those citizens who are discriminated against, ceasing any opportunity for economic progress and development. Under certain regulations some businesses are required to diversify their workplace by hiring certain amounts of people of color, but in reality these small quotas do not do much for the overall condition of the people who are being discriminated against. Businesses that fail to take action on racial discrimination tend to have lower levels of productivity. This stems from employees not being interested in working hard, or because people with exceptional talents and skills choose to shy away from certain places of employment due to the fear of racial discrimination. Employees who feel wronged also tend to switch jobs, forcing the organization to spend more time and resources on hiring and training new employees, besides coping with the low productivity of a new employee. In today’s world, the American still has barriers to overcome in the matter of racial equality. Whether it is being passed over for a promotion at the job or being underpaid, some people have to deal with unfair practice that would prevent someone of color or the opposite sex from having equal opportunity at the job. In 2004, Dukes vs. Wal-Mart Stores Incorporation was a civil rights class-action suite that ruled in favor of the women who worked and did not received promotions, pay and certain job assignments. Affirmative action has been the topic of debate for many years. It has been controversial because it has been said to be a form of reverse discrimination. This paper will discuss the purpose behind affirmative action, as well as, its various strengths and weaknesses. Also, this paper will look at the following issues surrounding affirmative action such as the incompetency myth ( are companies hiring less qualified people?), the impact on employment (what has changed in the work place?), the impact on women (how have their lives changed?) and the impact on employment law (what documents back up affirmative action?). Lastly, a discussion of affirmative action on an international scale, and what international documents have to say about the topic. The purpose of this paper is to bring to light all the issues, and then make an educated statement of whether affirmative action is a worthwhile activity or if there is a better solution.
One race that is discriminated against in America is the Hispanics or Mexicans. There are many cases in which someone could not get a job, or lose out on something, just because they are Hispanic or Mexican. In an article by Gabriel Medina Arenas, a 46 year old Hispanic woman Gabriela Calzada believes she lost a job opportunity just because she was Hispanic. She said “I had all the qualifications” “I think they didn’t give it to me because I am Hispanic but I could be wrong. She only had a Bachelors Degree and I have a Ph.D.” (Qtd in Gabriel Medina Arenas). Many people that are of a different race other than white Americans don’t get a job or other things because of their race. Even if they have a higher education or are more qualified for the job.
The election just happened and there were a lot of emotions in the air, whether it was on campus, the airport, or back home. My mother informed me of who she voted for almost immediately after I walked into the door--Trump. Shocked, but not surprised, I asked what incited her to vote for him. My mother is a part of the white blue-collar working class that is often called racist and ignored by the public. Whether or not the name-calling is warranted, my mother feels ostracized. She questions why affirmative action is in place, giving jobs to minorities, where white people are unemployed and barely scraping by. Rather, she fails to see how being ignored gives her the power to succeed in modern-day America. Although minorities are discriminated against often, the deliberate issue is how white people are discriminated for. Part of the hiring process is social networking--who you know--and a critical component is homogeneity. Since managerial positions are dominated by white people, and white people monopolize other white people 's social networks, a never-ending cycle is created. Abstract- Racial discrimination happens all the time and most of us are unaware of it. The most common place for this to happen is in the workplace. Now people can be discriminated against because of their race, religion, or any other numerous things. Also, discrimination can occur during the job interview or even after you got the job. This paper will shoe the effects of racial discrimination and how it can be prevented. In addition there are some very important laws that deal specifically with discrimination, like the NAACP or Affirmative Action. These both will be discussed.

There have been numerous episodes of racism and discrimination against many groups in the United States throughout the whole history of the United States. Though racism and discrimination were ended in the country many years ago, different form of discrimination still exists in this country. It appears that discrimination, prejudice as well as institutionalized discrimination is still in the country. Racism today is not limited to people of color, but to other groups such as the immigrants who are inevitably victims of discrimination.
Stretching all the way back to the 1600s, African-Americans first began experiencing oppression by being forced into slavery in the new American colonies and now being still discriminated against almost 400 years later in the form of both conscious and unconscious biases. Studies, including the MIT and University of Chicago study where approximately 5,000 resumes with both “white sounding last names” and “black sounding last names” were sent to over one thousand different ads for jobs in Chicago and Boston, have found that unconscious bias is a very real threat to the workforce by revealing that the resumes with “typically white last names” received 50% more callbacks than “typically black last names”. This advertisement acknowledges that there is bias in the workforce and shows their initiation to preventing it. Although it is just a glimpse of the discrimination that minority groups face, it is a good attempt to bring awareness to these unrecognized issues. This advert brings to life many more issues that are not just occurring in the hiring process but also in leadership roles.
There are many types of discrimination in the America such as racial, religious, age, disability, and sexual. As college students, discrimination will play a major role in minorities lives as they look for employment or whom they are employed with. Discrimination and the opportunities for promotion are still common even though companies create a safe place to prevent racial discrimination. Racial discrimination is one of the world’s major issues today. Many are not aware on how much it still exists everywhere. A person cannot be born racist and discriminative but only learn to become one as they grow from child to an adult.
