Suicide is a taboo subject for many people to even speak of in the United States (Suicide, Euthanasia, and Assisted Suicide). Assisted suicide or euthanasia is a very controversial medical and ethical issue topic in many contemporary states today as well. Suicide is no longer against the law in the United States but it is forbidden in 44 of the 52 states. (Lee and Stingl). When they decide they cannot take the pain any more, would you want them to pull through for you or would you fulfill their dying wish and let the doctor pull the plug? Could you even make a decision? Many people would not allow such an event to happen because with all the pain and confusion the patient is enduring may cause confusion and suicidal tendencies.
