The Powerful Message of Jubilate Agno
Jubilate Agno is Christopher Smart's poem which illustrates at first glance a testament to his religious obsession and his deteriorated mental state. The other side of this poem shows a man trying to keep his sanity in an insane place. William Stead sees the work as "a spiritual diary of his thoughts, memories, and prayers, during the darkest years of his life" (Stead 17). Jubilate Agno focuses on God with daily occurrences weaving their way into the poem. Smart's work "reflects what was . . . his life work: the praise of God through poetry" (Anderson 54). Smart writes about what he knows from the Bible to animals to the alphabet; most contain God themes [?]. In his tribute to his cat, Jeoffry, Smart shows the cat's particular connection to God, and how Jeoffry is the ideal servant of God. Is an insane Smart writing about an imaginary cat's servitude to God? Or is the intellectual Smart merely paralleling human life to cat life to show how each of us can serve God?
Jeoffry became more than a pet to Smart in the years of his confinement. Dr. Sherbo contends that "he had a cat, a real one, not the product of his distressed imagination" (qtd. in Dearnley 155). Smart, being particularly religious, felt that his companion was a good illustration of serving God in his ways. Jeoffry is aware of God, "For he knows that God is his Saviour" (134) just as we should. Smart refers to Jeoffry working for God, "for when his day's work is done his business more properly begins. / For he keeps the Lord's watch in the night against the adversary" (Smart 133). Jeoffry strives to serve God so much that after each full day of activities he can still be a servant to God. With the detailed descriptions of Jeoffry's daily routines, Smart sees the holy connection in them. "For at the first glance of the glory of God in the East he worships in his way. / For this is done by wreathing his body seven times round with elegant quickness" (131). A morning stretch for a feline symbolizes a morning prayer for a person.
“If youth but had the knowledge and old age the strength,” (Proverb). Remember sitting on the porch swing with grandpa and listening to him rant and rave about what seemed utterly irrelevant? What about the time that you got backhanded for rolling your eyes at crazy Mrs. Roberts when she would preach ‘life lessons’ at you? However, with age, it has become more and more apparent that maybe Mrs. Roberts wasn’t that far off from what is really the problems most fail to see. In today’s generation, the elderly have often been put on the back burner when they shouldn’t be. Although at times it might seem like the young are utterly invincible, the harsh truth is that there is so much knowledge we are yet to possess, residing within our elders. In Rudolfo Anaya’s A Celebration of Grandfathers, we see just how important Grandpa’s extraneous rants actually were.
Pride is often thought of as a positive trait, but pride can also have a dark side, resulting in disastrous consequences as shown in “The Cask of Amontillado”. In the story, the narrator, Montresor and Fortunato express their pride similarly. They both pride themselves with self-respect and dignity, expert knowledge of Italian wine, and their status in society. What they never realized is that the pride they shared would ultimately cause their demise.
By beginning the poem, “I doubt not God is good, well-meaning, kind,” the poet seeks not to disrespect his creator, but rather to question the rationale behind his creations. Line two and three first inquires the cruelty of God in the statement, “And did He stoop to quibble could tell why the little buried mole continues blind.” The previously mentioned lines uses the example of a blind buried mole as an example of
Genesis 2:18 says, “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Cats are wonderful friend to have. It is displayed in the stereotype that single women have cats because everyone needs a friend or companion. It was time to get her a friend so the search for a perfect match had begun. A few weeks had past and the match was found. When the eight month old English Bulldog named Jocko arrived at his new home it was very apparent he was the polar opposite of his soon to be best friend. He was a spunky puppy who was excited to see everything the world could offer him. Little did he know there was a surprise inside his new home waiting for him. He ran in the house and in less than thirty seconds he had managed to sniff everything. He somehow missed the sleeping cat on top of the couch. When he finally realized there was another animal in his house he was oh so excited. He just wanted to play with her but they had different ideas. She bolted up the stairs to the top floor safe from the dog. Lebron never comes down stairs unless the dog is outside or is sleeping but other than that she lives in the attic in

Payables Turnover Ratio is the ratio of net credit purchases to average accounts payable during the period. It measures short term liquidity by showing how many times during a period your average accounts payable is paid.
The lack of a standardized email system administered by the firm is concerning, as encryption of some standard email web browsers is not sufficient enough to ensure the proper safeguarding of email traffic. While it is possible that most web browsers utilize Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) for email encryption at the very least, without the standardization of email to one type of system, the firm is unable to ensure proper encryption. Furthermore, without the ability for someone in the firm to administer users email, we are unable to control email traffic to slow or reject spam or suspicious user attacks
Hussain states that “There are approximately sixty-eight million dogs kept as pets in the United States. Every year, these dogs bite an estimated four to five million Americans, representing about two percent of the population...” According to J.T. Quirk, “dog bites are a significant cause of injury, particularly among children.” Based on Quirk’s research “National estimates presented [in the Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System (WISQARS) were based on weighted data for 25,709 patients treated for dog bite-related injuries at NEISS-AIP hospital emergency departments from 2005 to 2009.” That estimates roughly to 6,427 people per year being treated for dog bite-related injuries. Quirk also states that “It has been estimated that 1,615,426 persons… were treated in US emergency departments for non-fatal dog bite-related injuries between 2005 and 2009, for a corresponding average annual injury rate of 107.2 … per 100,000 population.” Males accounted for 53.9 percent of the injuries sustained making the rate of males 1.2 times higher than females. Rates were highest in children under the age of 15 at 95 percent (Quirk 300-302). Data on dog attacks seems more accessible in the United Kingdom, where the dangerous dog stigma began. Based on the research of Páraic Ó Súilleabháin, in Ireland “there was a total of
In Canto 28 of Paradiso Beatrice explains, “the measure of their vision lies in merit, produced by grace,” (112-113). A balance and interplay can be found in the elements “merit” and “grace” because they are an allegory of the entire book in which the whole focus of the sanctification of Dante, and all souls for that matter, is based upon merit and grace.
King Lear is a complicated man, that cannot be only talked about in good or bad. We can argue he is a bad father and a bad king, but does this make him such a bad man who deserved the suffering he has gone through?
Ratio Analysis Ratio analysis is a process of determining and presenting the relationship of items and groups of items in the financial statements so as to provide information to the financial statements in a concise form. In the words of Myres, “ Ratio analysis is largely a study of relationship among the various financial factors in a business as disclosed by a single set of statements and a study of the trend of these factors as shown in a series of statements.” Advantages of ratio analysis It facilitates the comprehension of financial statements and evaluation of several aspects such as financial health, profitability and operational efficiency of the undertaking. It provides the inter-firm comparison to measure efficiency and helps the management to take remedial measures. It is also helpful in forewarning corporate sickness and helps the management to take corrective action. Trend analysis with the use of ratios helps in planning and forecasting. It helps in investment decisions in the case of investors and lending decisions in the case of bankers and financial institutions. Disadvantages of ratio analysis Ratios are an attempt to make an analysis of the past financial statements; so they are historical documents. Now days keeping in view the complexities of the business, it is important to have an idea of the probable happenings in future. Changes in price levels make comparison for various years difficult. For example, the ratio of sales to total assets in 1999 would be much higher than in 1980 due to rising prices. Types of Ratio 1.ROCE 2.Gross Profit 3.Operating Ratio 4.Price Earning 5.Dividend Ratio 6.Fixed Asset Ratio 7.Stock Turnover Ratio 8.Creditor Turnover 9.Debtor Turnover 10.Liquidity Ratio 11.Quick Ratio ...

When looking at this poem there are several things I noticed. First, it is written in heroic couplets. Heroic couplets are rhymed lines of iambic pentameter in an “AABB” format. Another thing I noticed throughout the essay was that Alexander Pope was focusing on man’s confusion to whether he was just a man created in God’s image (a Christian idea) verses an animal (enlightenment idea). A third idea was his use of oxymoronic words in the same lines to express his thoughts. Also in this section, I noticed that there can be multiple interpretations of his writings that make it difficult to comprehend. Also, Popes uses words such as “mind” and “knowledge” that, when not looking closely, seem to be referring to the same side of his arguments, but, in reality, are on opposite sides.
Email, instant messaging, text messaging, network software, web logs, and video conferencing are all types of electronic communication that businesses use frequently (Robbins & Judge, 2009). Emails in particular are a type of electronic communication that all businesses use. Unlike personal face-to-face communication upward, downwards, or laterally, the person who is trying to convey meaning has to pay extra attention to the language he uses in the email (Gimenez, 2006). The ever changing business environment and expansion of international and national business has also made email incredibly important. Businesses that are all across the United States have the issue of time zones to compete with. A simple email can now take the place of what once was a face-to-face conversation or phone call (Gimenez, 2006). This is even more important with international businesses who live in different time zones and speak different languages. All employees should be very careful when sending emails to communicate upwards, downwards, or laterally. It should be noted that even though email is convenient and efficient for many things, it will never fully replace face-to-face communication and it will never be quite as effective as face-to-face
