Dulce et Decorum Est" utilizes a poem structure as a part of the initial two stanzas. "Anthem for Doomed Youth" is a piece. The poetic pattern is utilized, be that as it may, gets to be looser towards the first's end stanza as a especially sensational minute methodologies. The last two stanzas of this poem are composed in a much looser piece structure. The focus at the beginning of this poem is on a gathering of men marching over from the front. The focus changes onto one man who can't get his gas head protector on in time. This makes the poem more individual, particularly toward the end when he addresses the peruser himself, "you too", "you would".
The two poems both show extremely different imagery. When reading Dulce et Decorum Est, the audience would interpret very strong and dark imagery.
I believe people lack respect for the flag and what it stands for. Although most people are proud to be an American, some don’t understand what it truly means to be an American. The flag has a history, and should be respected because of that history. Although most believe that respect should be earned, our flag has earned this many times over. And I believe that our flag is taken for granted.
Anthem is a story of man’s struggle to be free and to fight the masses of conformity. It tells of human nature and the want to gain all the knowledge that one could possibly attain. Man loses his safe haven and his security when he lets this lust for knowledge overpower him and lets it be seen by others. He becomes vulnerable Like Johann Faust, Prometheus sells his life for wisdom. Unlike Faust, however, Prometheus is expelled from his society but gains his freedom of individuality and his freedom of knowledge and the ability to understand. In Anthem, Prometheus and Gaea sin against society to become singular and understanding much like Adam and Eve’s sin against God when they ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge to gain wisdom; as a result, they can be compared to each other by there desire for learning and by their damnation.
On the other hand, 'Dulce et decorum est' is quite a sarcastic and ironic title. 'Dulce et decorum est' literally translates as ‘It is sweet and fitting’, and it is a quote from the Roman poet Horace. It is repeated in the last line of the poem, which is ‘…Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori.’

The poem "Dulce et Decorum Est", an anti-war poem by Wilfred Owen who was an English footsoldier, states that it is not sweet and fitting to die a hero's death for a country. Right off in the first line, Owen describes the troops as being "like old beggars under sacks" (1). This metaphor indicates that the men are battle weary and suggests reluctance. They also have been on their feet for days and appear to be drained of youth as they "marched asleep" (5) and "limped on, blood-shod" (6). Overall, in the first stanza, Oundjian 2 there seems to be a tension between old and young because it shows how the impact of an endless war has reduced these once energetic young men to the point where they could be referred to as "old" (1), "lame" (6) and...

The song Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas contains insights into what Plato believes to be a philosopher as is found in his allegory of the cave in the Republic. Found in the second verse of the song, it describes how “Once [he] rose above the noise and confusion/just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion” which is a direct correlation to the journey which one takes to become a philosopher as described by Plato in The Republic through his Allegory of the Cave. This is similar in the sense that the philosopher separates himself from the distractions of normal life to search for what is the reality behind these distractions that cause illusions. The song also says “Though [his] eyes could see [he] still was a blind man/Though [his] mind could
The poem “Siren Song” is able to depict the sirens using a persuasive and taunting tone. The first six stanzas of the poem have a taunting tone. The siren is explaining to the reader that “anyone who has heard it [the song] is dead, and the others can’t remember.” The sirens are attempting to persuade the reader to do as they say, but at the same time telling them that they will end up dead. This is taunting the reader by telling them the negative things to come. A shift of tone occurs for the seventh stanza. The siren is addressing the reader and saying, “I will tell the secret to you, to you, and only to you… you are unique.” This changes the poem from being taunting to persuasive because it makes it personal. It now becomes about “you,”
Futility, Anthem For Doomed Youth, Dulce et decorum est and Mental cases by Wilfred Owens
Many people work hard for their reputation and how others perceive them. Once people finally get that understand of whom they are and what they want to do, it is hard to let go of that. “To an Athlete Dying Young” is about a young athlete that died before his reputation; therefore, when people think of him, they will think of the athlete he was. “Ex-Basketball Player” is about a boy that was phenomenal at basketball, but his career came to an end when he did not go to college and play basketball; his reputation died before he did. These poems have similar subjects but still differ a little bit.

‘The Falling Soldier’ is one of many poems by Duffy which deals with the subject of human mortality. Duffy expresses what could have been over a harsh reality; this is characteristic of her as also seen in ‘Last Post’ and ‘Passing Bells’ which both seem to be largely influenced by poet peer Wilfred Owen’s personal experiences of war. In the ‘The Falling Soldier’ Duffy paradoxically captures the essence of Robert Capa’s famous photograph of a man falling after being shot during the Spanish Civil War (1936). She employs the form of an impersonal narrative voice, using second person to question the possibilities, to explore the tragic and cyclical nature of war. The futile reality of war contrasts to her central theme in ‘The Bees’ anthology of bees symbolising the grace left in humanity.
