to learn in the book. The most amazing moral in the book The Pigman is when two teenagers, John and Lorraine, learn that there are consequences for their actions. The way this is demonstrated in the book is when the two teenagers, John and Lorraine, prank call an old man, Mr. Pignati. The phone call started out as a prank, but ended up in a friendly relation ship with the old man, Mr. Pignati. This relationship became a little bit too friendly when the teenagers, John and Lorraine, started to hang out with the old man, Mr. Pignati, on a regular basis. One day, while they are hanging out with, Mr. Pignati, they start to realize that, Mr. Pignati, is too old for some of the things they are doing with him. On that day, Mr. Pignati and John are skating around Mr. Pignati's house. Lorraine starts to realize that Mr. Pignati is getting tired. John runs up the stairs and Mr. Pignati follows. This results in Mr. Pignati having a hard attack and almost dying. Although, this may be an extreme example of a consequence it shows why old people and young people need to become mature or they will suffer the consequence. The action filled adventures may be fun at the time, but the end result, also known as the consequence, could be bad. The Pigman is an action filled adventure novel for young adults. One of the outrageous events in the book is on page 174. On page 174, the very last sentence says, "The Pigman dies." The next chapter, starts with John yelling at the zoo attendant, "Call an ambulance." The attendant is extremely confused and yells back, "What is happening!" You can just imagine how chaotic it must have been while this was happening. The action in the story shows how teenagers lived their lives in 1968. Back in 1968, kids were usually drinking beer and smoking cigarettes because that was the cool thing to do back in the late 1960's.
In the book John, Lorraine, and some of their friends go to the cemetary and drink beer on top of one of the tombs. Furthermore, throughout the whole story we here about John drinking or smoking cigarettes. Another "cool" thing to do in the late 60's was prank calling. Another thing to do in the late 60's was to prank call. This is how John and Lorraine met Mr. Pignati. They called Mr. Pignati and said they were representatives of a charity for kids and asked if he would have liked to donate. They talked for a few hours and passed the old record for the longest prank call that one of their friends had set. He ended up donated $10.00 to them when they went to his house to get the money the next day. John and Lorraine ended up enjoying their stay and talking to Mr. Pignati. This shows the way people in general acted in the late 60's. People will also argue as to why some information is wrong. They may say that the morals that a young adult can learn from the book is not an amazing moral that they need to know. Also, they may say that the plot is slow and boring. Furthermore, they may disagree with the things taht the books says the teenagers did in the late 60's. This essay shows why the people that think the opposite of some people are
wrong. Although Mr. Pignati may have died, John and Lorraine learned amazing morals. While reading the book, young adults can learn these morals as they read this book. The action filled plot keeps the young adult's hooked to the book. The book will also give them a perspective as to how kids acted back in 1968. The book The Pigman is an amazing book for all ages, although the book is actually intended for young adults.
The narrator makes statements that may come off as unpatriotic and anti- Christian. It is also true that the story may be too descriptive of gore filled events, but this should not stop someone from finishing the book. Once the reader gets through the mature content, they are able to see the true meaning of the story. They find out that the reason behind the novel was to warn people about sending kids to war. They can get many types of psychological diseases that cannot be cured by pills, treatments, or therapy.
After hearing a brief description of the story you might think that there aren’t many good things about they story. However, this is false, there are many good things in this book that makes it a good read. First being that it is a very intriguing book. This is good for teenage readers because often times they don’t willingly want to read, and this story will force the teenage or any reader to continue the book and continue reading the series. Secondly, this is a “good” book because it has a good balance of violence. This is a good thing because it provides readers with an exciting read. We hear and even see violence in our everyday life and I believe that it is something teenagers should be exposed to. This book gives children an insig...
In the book, The Pigman, by Paul Zindel, John Conlan and Lorraine Jensen are in tenth grade at Franklin High. Neither of their experiences were that immense when they first started school there. John used to be known as the Bathroom Bomber his first year at school which left him mortified to enter sophomore year. One of John and his friends avocations were prank calling people. They made it a game where they tried to witness who could carry out a conversation with a random individual on the phone the longest. None of it got too serious until one night John thought it would be easier to talk to one of his neighbors on the phone for longer. That night he ended up calling Mr. Pignati. Despite the fact that Mr. Pignati had no problem talking
Altogether, this is a book to be read thoughtfully and more than once. It is about an unusually sensitive and intelligent boy; but, then, are not all boys unusual and worthy of understanding? If they are bewildered at the complexity of modern life, unsure of themselves, shocked by the spectacle of perversity and evil around them - are not adults equally shocked by the knowledge that even children cannot escape this contact and awareness? & nbsp;
Death is expressed throughout this whole novel. First off, I don't want to be a spoiler, but Mr. Pignati (pigman) dies. The Pigman was very old. The Pigman wife also died but since he was depressed, he told John and Lorraine that wife went to California for a couple of months. But throughout this novel there was evidence witnessed that The Pigman’s wife died. Many clues made it clear that she died. Including her name on the newspaper saying she died, her whole closet was full, and all of her makeup and jewelry was still there. The pigman always had a sad voice when John and Lorraine brought up her. Later on he told them that she had died. Considering the Editorial team of Shmoop says “Death is everywhere in The Pigman. Mr. Pignati dies; his wife is dead; Bobo dies; Lorraine's mother tends dying patients; John fears that his father will die soon; John and Lorraine drink above a tomb in the cemetery, where John thinks about the bodies underneath them. Mr. Pignati is so distraught at his wife's death that he cannot even admit that she is dead, but the thought of his own death doesn't seem to bother him.” (http://www.shmoop.com/pigman/mortality-theme.html). Parents who has someone close who died would not want their children to read the book. If a Parent got in a car wreck or died somehow, I would definitely not want my kids to read this book. Ho or she who has read the book may be sad and have emotional problems like the Pigman did after reading this book.On the other hand this could be educational, and how you could handle having a lost one close to you. The Pigman is a heartwarming story, to show how someone with no one close to him can have fun with new friends. The novel The Pigman also shows how one can handle a death of a close one. Overall this is why the novel The Pigman should not be
...d middle schools is understandable. The students at those schools are not yet ready mentally to read about anything vulgar or unjust for children. But today I argue that the young adults at high schools should be able to read this classic novel. It is no more in depth than the things they hear daily from other students or are possible doing themselves, so I do not think it is right to ban a classic book to keep them from reading about things that he or she already hears every single day as the walk down the long hallways of his or her schools. A great read should not be taken away from these students because the parents of these children or the teachers of these students think they have not heard anything like this before. Trust the young adults. It is only a book.
The book The Catcher in the Rye was published in the year 1951 and has been the subject of constant debates and controversies. The novel has not only been the target of criticism, but has also sparked discussions on its effectiveness for use in high schools. The novel is about a period of three days in the life of Holden Caulfield. The novel’s most criticised points are its issues such as profanity, irrational behavior, and teenage sex, but it still gives very important lessons to young readers because it teaches tolerance, discipline, religion, and rational behavior. More specifically it teaches that desirable behavior will make them and society better, and as such, I do not think it should be banned from high school curriculum. This paper analyzes the reasons why The Catcher in the Rye should not be banned from English classes that are taught in high schools.
Literally, moral is the lesson sought to be teached. To me the moral is the message that the author is trying to get across to the audience. In “Never bet the Devil your head”, Edgar Allen Poe shows that the main character Toby Dammit grows up, and as he grows up he builds the habit of being over confident, even cocky. I feel that in “Never bet the Devil your head”, Edgar Allan Poe is trying to express that you should never be over confident with your tongue and what you
...l human character. Writers of American literature have many different opinions on the society. In order for readers to understand an author’s view on the society, they must look at many different aspects including the writer’s life and the time period in which the work was written. Though writers have different theories about the society, they express their philosophies into their work. Harper Lee did not originally write To Kill a Mockingbird for adolescents, yet it has become a novel that is used in American high schools across the nation and is considered literature with a capital L. In the novel, Lee lays a foundation of moral instruction, living history and character development providing a great deal of moral insight for the reader. Her use of first person narration and an adolescent protagonist create a strong tie with the adolescent reader and make it fun to read. With an underlying theme of movement from childhood to adulthood, Lee’s children in the book learn a valuable lesson, and the students reading it also get that message.
...ading the novel. The teacher should always listen to input from the parents of their students, and should make the parents feel comfortable discussing with them the problems they see with their child reading a certain book. There should always be parental consent when reading a book so that the parent will be able to discuss with their child their views and issues on a certain book. Discussion should always be welcome within the classroom for student growth and to confront any issues that may arise. When following these guidelines, teachers can prepare their students for the future real-world problems that they will be confronted with.
Although George Orwell’s Animal Farm was created in order to mimic individuals as well as occurrences that took place during the Russian Revolution period, it is still possible to gain a comprehensive understanding of the text without a past knowledge of history through the exploitation of human nature’s imperfections. Following the publishment of his novel, Orwell confirmed that his goal in writing this fable was to expose the wrongdoing of the Soviet Union as well as the treachery of the true ideas of the Revolution. Nonetheless, there have been several other examples of events such as the French Revolution that can effortlessly be contrasted against components of the allegory. However, we need not to dig no deeper than to the fundamental faults in human nature to witness the catastrophic consequences that attributes such as hierarchy, propaganda and betrayal have on today’s society.
Morals are developed from the moment we are born to the moment we die, and are cultivated by what we see, hear, and do within our lives, but more importantly by the people we meet. In the world there are all manner of things for us to bear witness to, whether it be the beauty of birth or the gritty horror that is war, in either case men and women are shaped and changed by these events whether it be good or bad. The greek philosopher Aristotle is quoted as saying, “And to say what makes good morals vs what are bad ones is completely based on self, for no two people have the same upbringing, class, or position in life, for how is a slave who has known nothing but the brutality of his/her master to understand under what morals, owned by their
