The History of the Beatles
The Beatles are known to many as one of the greatest bands of all time. Their music has
influenced many people, including the Queen of England, future musicians, parents, and teens. All
four, Ringo Starr, Paul McCarteny, John Lennon, and George Harrison, were knighted by the
Queen. The controversy of the statement made by John Lennon that "sparked protesters
everywhere to burn countless records. Teens were influenced by the peaceful lyrics and hippie
messages. Numerous musicians of today count the Beatles among of their inspirations. The modern
rock band "Oasis" has stated that they get their greatest influence from the Beatles" (Lewisohn, 56).
This great band had small beginnings, however.
On October 9, 1940, John Winston Lennon was born in Liverpool, England. He was raised
by his aunt Mimi after his parents divorced. He attended an art school after doing very poorly in all
aspects of school except art. He began his first band, The Quarrymen, in 1956 (Wiener, 5). He
met Paul through a mutual friend at the Garden Fete in Liverpool. Very impressed that Paul could
play Eddie Cochran, he then asked him to join The Quarrymen (Dowlding, 30).
James Paul McCartney was born on June 18, 1942 in Liverpool, England. His mother was
a nurse, and his father was a salesman and musician, who played piano in a ragtime band (Wiener,
5). Paul's mother died when he was fourteen. Paul had been around music his entire life because of
his father, but didn't become interested until the days of Elvis. After he joined The Quarrymen with
John, they both began writing songs such as "Love Me Do," and "One After 909" (Schaffner, 18-
19).

their parents' old records. The magnificence of the Beatles will still be remembered for many years
to come.

The Beatles are known, respectively, as the fathers of modern pop music. After their first #1 hit “Please Please Me” was released in 1963 the Beatles were set in motion to become one of the most influential groups of musicians to ever rock our world. With over forty-nine records, 37 #1’s, and thirty- four number one albums (the highest amount of any band in history), there is no denying that they made a monumental ripple in the musical world. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr surprisingly all come from humble beginnings in a town that, until their superstardom, was barely noticed on the map. Elvis Aaron Presley, in the humblest of circumstances, was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley in a two-room house in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935. His twin brother, Jessie Garon, was stillborn, leaving Elvis to grow up as an only child. He and his parents moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1948, and Elvis graduated from Humes High School there in 1953.
He started using comedy and humor to make friends and entertain his classmates. Immediately after high school, he began attending college. He first studied political science at Claremont Men’s College where he started taking improvisation courses. When he discovered his love of comedy and improvisation, he switched colleges to attend the College of Marin to study acting. The Beatles have been noted as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, and most persuasive bands of all time. They were both musical and lyrical masterminds whom interpreted their opinions through their music. Of those many opinions their main message they wanted to send was the idea of peace. The Beatles opposed the war in Vietnam and were avid participants in the anti-war movement; by trend setting, not being afraid to speak their mind, and writing songs including: “Give Peace A Chance,” “Revolution,” “All You Need Is Love,” and many more. These songs insinuated and instilled their views on world peace, and back their opinions on the war.
His parents were German immigrants with taste in classical music. Jon performed in piano recitals at the age of eight and started composing at the age of 11, he was able to play “Mozart Sonatas” at that age and often appeared on stage with his musician father. Then he became a piano instructor when he was sixteen. During his study years, he was worried that he wouldn’t be able to have a successful career in music. Therefore, he studied English in college with plans to get an MBA (business degree). But after a successful concert, he abandoned the plans and turned his full attention back towards a musical career. In 1991, he released a superb album, August End. And after signing with Aubergine Records, he recorded a sophomore offering, Walk in the Woods, in 1993. Then followed by A Day in the Sunset, Jon Schmidt Christmas in 1997 and To the Summit in 2000. They were all released under his own label, JSP Productions.
In their initial incarnation as cheerful, wisecracking moptops, the Fab Four revolutionized the sound, style, and attitude of popular music and opened rock and roll’s doors to a tidal wave of British rock acts. Their initial impact would have been enough to establish the Beatles as one of their era’s most influential cultural forces, but they didn’t stop there. Although their initial style was a highly original, irresistibly catchy synthesis of early American rock and roll and R&B, the Beatles spent the rest of the 1960s expanding rock’s stylistic frontiers, consistently staking out new musical territory on each release...
