Just about every country in the entire world has experienced a revolution because people have always wanted a change whether it be social, economic, or political, or for those people who wanted control of their own lives, rather than being under the rule of a powerful regime. There are two revolutions that caught my attention when I was searching for my research paper project. They are the Peoples Power Revolution, which was held in the Philippines in 1986, and the Orange Revolution in Ukraine in 2004. Although these two revolutions have many similarities, such as they both protested non-violently, there are more differences because of what the goal of each revolution and how the revolution started; how long was the revolution and who was involved in the protest; what non-violent methods or actions they used and the impact of the revolutions they possessed.
In every revolution, there is a goal that each country they are fighting for. First, let’s talk about the Peoples Power Revolution. Filipino people wanted Ferdinand Marcos, former President of the Philippines for almost 20 years to end his dictatorship. What started as a reign of honor later transcended to a reign of horror. What do I mean by that? During his first term as a President of the Philippines, he promised and showed all the hopeful Filipino people to have a prosperous Philippine which he did. However, things started to become messy when he was on his second and third term as a President. He corrupted and putting his own country into big debt. He also declared the Martial law where in the country was under the control of militarist forces, and which the people have no civil rights. ... ribbons and confetti that represent Cory Aquino’s campaign color. While for the Orange Revolution, although the revolution lasted for over two months, the protests only lasted for 6 days. Nearing over a million Ukrainian people were involved in the protest. The student group Pora who suspected the fraud election set up a protest immediately into the parliament of Ukraine; the Maidan. People had assembled a sea of orange color by wearing orange ribbons and carried orange flags that symbolizes Yushchenko’s campaign color. Despite of the cold weather, people were ready to stay day and night in front of the building.
There should be an action plan or methods use when you’re involved in a revolution. Protesters for the Peoples Power Revolution who wanted to throw former President Marcos had planned to assassinate him in his principal office, Malacanang.
