The film The Patriot illustrates a story of a widower named as Benjamin Martin. He was not only a veteran of the french and indian war but was a farmer and father of seven children. Benjamin was termed to Charleston to fight for and with the Continental Army due to the upcoming revolution, but refuses to abide for the safety of his family and the choice of raising his family in peace. Although he declines the offer to fight, the levy still passes. After some time, the peaceful life he wished upon began to perish by reason of the American Revolutionary War. His eldest son Gabriel eventually has the intention to join the army to assist in fighting the british for independence of his nation, and does just that. Also, it was said by Tavington that if slaves fought in the war,they would be granted freedom. Dispatches were found in Benjamin’s home, and were questioned by Tavington. Gabriel admitted to carrying them. Which led Tavington to threaten Benjamin’s family and to hang his eldest son. Benjamin’s second born son, Thomas disagreed and was shot and killed for his actions. With this being said, Colonel Tavington of the British army was known for his brutality. After Tavington and his troops head out, Benjamin arms himself and his two other children Nathan and Samuel to save the life of his eldest son by killing the british troops and officers.Benjamin joins and leads the colonial militia because he is ranked colonel. He forms a militia of farmers and peasants with his leadership experience. He set forth surprise attacks toward the british troops and took supplies.This made british troops very upset. Tavington and the british troops then begins bombarding family members of the militia and attempted to burn the church and kill everyone inside, making it seem as if they told him what he wanted they would live, but instead he proceeded to set the church on
