The movie, The Outsiders, shows how marxist criticism affects a town when two rival gangs compete against one another due to issues surrounding social class. One gang based on the east side is called the Greasers, who struggle financially. The other gang is located on the west side, called the Socials who live a wealthy lifestyle. The difference in economic status causes immense conflict between the two groups. The Socials are viewed with more respect and given leniency, due to their social class. Throughout the movie, the Socials thrive off of beating up teenagers with less money. The police are more strict with the Greasers and tend to let mischievous acts the Socials go unnoticed.
