There are plenty of reasons why the movie is better than the book. The portrayal of the characters Johnny and Ponyboy are way better in the movie than the book's portrayal and that's only one reason. Another reason why the movie is better than the book is that it was near the end of the movie when the Socs and Greasers had their final rumble. The movie version of the final rumble was way more entertaining compared to the book version of the final rumble. Firstly, the portrayal of the character Johnny is immensely better than the book's version of Johnny. First of all the beginning of the book showed off Ponyboy Curtis getting jumped by the Soc’s which I don’t think is a great start of showing what all the characters or even just Johnny are like. For example, in the movie there isn’t much dialog, which makes sense because it is a scene where there should be mostly just action. In the movie they do the scene great but in the book it isn’t that good as the book is way too wordy. In the book there are way too many lines like this one from page 144 “They were slugging it out, but Dallas was getting the worst of it, so I jumped on his Soc’s back, pulling his hair and pounding him”. For a fight scene, it is too wordy and not a fun experience to read, which is another reason why I like the movie better than the book. That form of book writing is good as there is a lot of detail but personally I did not enjoy it. When in the movie there was just a whole bunch of action back to back with not much dialog which is way more entertaining than what the book showed. Finally on how they showed and portrayed the final rumble, I had a better listening and watching experience with the movie rather than the book.
