In the book The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates by Wes Moore is about two men that not only share the same the name but also have very similar lifestyles. Both Wes Moore’s grew up in rough neighborhoods in Baltimore exposed to drug, poverty, violence, and death. They both were fatherless, struggled with education and ran into some trouble with the law. Although, as similar as their lives were what separated Wes Moore and the other Wes Moore in the end were the decisions made that impacted their future. Wes Moore lived in Baltimore with his mother Joy, his father Westly, and his two sisters Nikki and Shani. One day three year old Wes was playing with his older sister Nikki and punched her in the face. Joy was furious because it reminded her of her abusive marriage she had with a man named Bill. Westly then explains to Wes the role of a man is to never hit a woman but to protect them, Wes always looked up to his father. Westly got sick and one day after coming from the hospital he They lived a life of poverty and were exposed to violence and drugs throughout the neighborhoods they lived in. Due to their backgrounds they lack opportunities, and for both Wes Moore where influenced by the things they saw. The environment put Wes Moore and the other Wes Moore at risk of experiencing this social problem. The historical contexts that influenced the character and their experience was not having a father figure in their lives to play the important role that they needed. Always begin surrounded by drugs, poverty and violence that type of environment influenced them to think that was the best thing for them. The friends both Wes Moore’s hung around didn’t have positive influences on them which lead to trouble with the law. Having being raised in household where money was always tight they were unable to get the best resources that need to live better
