The only alien on the planet There is a story behind every person. There is a reason why they are the way they are. The book “The Only Alien On The Planet” by Kristen D Randle is about how Smitty is different then all people around him. His friends, Caulder, Hally, and Ginny, treat him with patient and respect him until he changed. This story teach us that we should treat people with respect, patient, friendly, and to not give up on someone that is having problems. Ginny was not responsible, carless, surprised, and alone. According to the book, Ginny said “I was totally alone for the first time in my life. And I really hated the way it felt.”(Chapter 1 Page 3). This quote shows that she was lonely in her first day of her new school. The book shows that Ginny is irresponsible when Ginny’s father asked her if she was going to support him in this, and ginny said “Of course,” and then said “I lied not looking at anybody in particular.” (Chapter 1 page 12). This shows that she was irresponsible because she didn’t felt that she was ready to try something new. The book shows that Ginny was surprised when Caulder told her that Smitty has a driver’s license and …show more content…
She shows that when she says “Actually, I was ling. I didn’t care if i did upset him.”. This shows that she is careless because she doesn’t care if someone is hurt or anything. She just don’t care about other people’s feelings. Ginny also shows that she is irresponsible when she said “When she left, I was so relieved, I almost forgot myself and relaxed against the back of that sofa,...”. This shows she is Irresponsible because she was going to do this kind of a move but then she thought of how embarrassing it would be. On page 98, Ginny also shows that she wasn’t responsible when her teacher told her “You weren’t finished,” and Ginny told her “I am now,”... . This shows that she is not responsible because she didn’t finished her work on
An individual follows the pack, they do not do as they please they follow the actions a person does around them. When an individual follows their actions they could be inspiring to them but could also wear down/ weaken a person's self esteem. Interacting with one another can not always be beneficial for certain people it could worsen things and make their lives harder. Although with that being said certain interactions can benefit the right person and make their lives easier. In the novel One Flew Over a Cuckoo’s Nest the actions and situations that Randle McMurphy encounters progresses his identity.
The differences Ginny and I have are her toughness and her ability to state her opinions and to stand her ground. I say this because throughout the book, Ginny experiences a lot of events that she couldn't tell to any of her brothers or parents because they were either too busy or they didn't understand. Which is why she ended up keeping all her emotions and thoughts bottled up until the very end. Her ability to state her opinions and stand her ground is a difference between us, because I am very afraid to speak my opinion. I end up either not stating my opinion or thoughts on anything because I am afraid of being wrong or judged.
We don't see many people in the world who express individuality. However, we see popularity and amount of followers we have on our Instagram to represent our reputation in the public. In the novel, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, we can see that individuality can still be expressed even if the whole school despises you. The main character, Stargirl, demonstrates how to be yourself and how it's better to be yourself than to become someone else.
The major conflict in this book was when Rose and Ginny remember about their father molesting them. Their father thought that he took the secret that he molested them to the grave, but he didn’t. It took a while for Ginny to remember that she was molested. After Rose kept on telling her that they were molested Ginny had some flashbacks and she remembered what happened. Rose and Ginny never told anyone about their father. He was a respected man in the community and Rose and Ginny were mad that their father got away with it.
...George terminated Lennie for a truly unknown reason. But the event would not have taken place if Lennie had not killed Curley’s wife or gotten them fired in weed. Ultimately, Lennie’s previous actions caused the downfall of himself and the downfall of George emotionally.
In A Thousand Acres, I read Ginny as being the reserved quiet daughter who, up until the very end, bends to her father's tyranny. As a result of he fathers incestuous ways, and his constant verbal degradation and abuse of her and her sisters, Ginny bows to her father's every whim. It is only when she realizes the awful things he has done to her that she finally takes a stand.
Curley's wife is reprehensible for Lennie's death. For example, if Curley's wife had not bothered Lennie after being told several times that Lennie was not supposed to talk to her and also, if she had not gone ballistic about her hair, she would not have died and neither would have Lennie. For example, when Lennie is alone in the barn with the pups, Curley's wife comes in and Lennie clearly states that he is not allowed to talk to her for the reason that George told him not to and Curley's wife says, “‘Why can't I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely.’ Lennie said, ‘Well I ain't supposed to talk to you or nothing’” (86). This shows how Curley’s wife knew that George was going to get mad, but she talked to Lennie anyway, not caring what would
“There are two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept responsibility for changing them.” -Denis Waitley. This quote can be interpreted to mean that if you accept things as they always were, then stereotypes will never change. However, if you want to change societies generalizations then you need to change your actions. The theme of the novel The Outsiders is do not let stereotypes define who you will become and how you act.
One literary device Rodman Philbrick uses the reveal the theme of the importance of friendship is characterization, what Max thinks. In the story when the first
Paul is invariably discovering new information and elements about his friends, and is working to better strengthen his new found friendships. Although not at first, Paul’s friends will soon see and learn his value and appreciate his skills. At first Paul feels out-of-place and is treated like a four-eyed freak. For example, Gino Deluca,
Sandy from the short story “Traffic” and Sierra from “Squid Girl” reveal their character traits through their words, thoughts and actions. For example, Sierra says, “Dad, aka Mr. Nature Man, said the local people call them century plants because they bloom once every six or eighty years and then shrivel up and die.” (Strasser 190). This shows she is ungrateful to her parents because her parents are trying to educate her but she unappreciated that, she is egocentric. Similarly, the character Sandy says, “Forty dollars of gas wasn’t a lot but he didn’t care. For however long it held out, he would be the car person, watching TV in icy isolated luxury. He could brag about it for the rest of his life.” (Sleator 177). These words show us that he is self-centered and
Even bad memories never fade and remain memorable. In the essay "Alien World " , Alexander Zaitchik narrates the Mexican migrants experience, seeking for a better life. Many believe that migrants enriched the US by cultural diversity, but many others worry about job lost of highly trained people. As long as there is work available migrants will always continue to travel to the northern region. Thus, letting the Mexicans build the theme park and utilize it as a business is their way of surviving.
Lennie is dumb because He doesn’t think things through and doesn’t have a good memory because he never remembers anything. On Page 91 Lennie said “George gonna say I done a bad thing, he ain't
Michael’s personality is best explained by the social learning perspective. His social behavior is driven by past experiences with reward and punishment (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cinaldini, 2015). Michael developed his personality watching his parents, specifically his mother and others in his environment. Being a minority and experiencing racism he came to admire Martin Luther King for his outspoken ways and for standing up for his race and speaking for equality. These are all things Michael wanted and desired in his life. Michael focuses on things or events that have happened to him in the past and these social learning experiences are what determine his social behavior today. Learning from his past experiences Michael knows
In chapter 3, Harvey Molotch, explains how each human being has a unique personality, character, and identity. Molotch believes that the people and the contact we have with different people influences our identity. He also describes psychoanalyst Rene Spitz study with babies and small children in an orphanage to a nursery for the children of incarcerated mothers. While the babies were in the nursery, they were healthy and happy. However, the children that were in the orphanage they were abandoned and miss treated. This lead to the discovery that poor emotional and physical health was because of the of the way they were miss treated. Molotch also explains that humans want to belong in a group that accepts them. Humans hind things from people
