In the movie, The New Centurions, it shows the good, the bad, and the evil. It is a good reality movie that give you a feel for policing in LA. Even though it is out dated, the same things happen today in our society that happen in the movie.
Roy Fehler, a rookie cop out of the police academy is assigned with Andy Kilvinski, a veteran cop. They got a good relationship started right in the beginning. The only bad thing that I saw was the fact that Roy was being exposed to the bad habits of Andy. Since Andy is training him he thinks these habits are alright. As Roy’s mentor and partner, Andy teaches him a lot including most of Mr. Wilson’s four principles, the primary objectives, and the three B’s ; booze, broads, bribes. Kilvinski showed Roy in many ways that the right and wrong aren’t always black and white. And the fact that life isn’t fair. Roy and Andy become very close over the coarse of five years. And even afer Andy retires and moved away he came back to live. Andy then shot him self because of all the stress that he had came across over the years. I believe when he came back in town, he had seen all the guys at the police station and missed it. Also seeing a guy he trained (Roy) train someone else. Before he shot himself he called Roy and told him a story about an old man on the porch. This old man symbolizes loneliness. I believe Andy became that old man on the porch. He became very lonely and had no family or friends. He and Roy were friends but it seemed that Roy had no time for Andy. Andy was a cop and that was the most important thing to him.
Roy has a huge change from the beginning of the movie to the end. In the beginning he was a loving husband and father of one. He was close with his family. He was a straight edge guy. But he was still learning everything he needed to know about policing. Towards the end, Roy becomes an alcoholic and seems not to care a lot about anything or anyone because his wife and daughter left him on his own. After a while he meets a new lady that he soon enough falls in love with.
Rudd was brutally beaten in the face after being called into a bar brawl on Christmas day. After receiving multiple facial injuries as well as a skull fracture and being hospitalized, the police officer was only eager to get back to work. Rudd told interviewers from his hospital bed “I have no hesitations getting back to work,” (“Courageous Police Officer”). The courage of the policeman had been seen as remarkable and heroic. Many people would take a traumatic event like such and use it as a way to resign from their job but Rudd simply said that it is what he does and he would not trade it (“Courageous Police Officer”).
I feel as if the author was trying to first explain the life Serpico had and his background to provide reasons for his seriousness with his job. When the author wrote about how he was shot and was just trying to get better it gave an insight on how he reacts with this occurrence in his life. Personally, I think that the book is being told both logically and emotionally. Logically because Serpico is a cop and has to follow specific rules and does things by the book. He never strays from the rules he was sworn into by the police department. Emotionally because he has been hurt on the job and even threatened but he never gives in. Right when I though he was going to sink into the corruption of the department he didn’t. He became strong and stuck with his own thoughts and feelings. The emotion in this book is very interesting because it is going from present to past then back to
...g him, the ending of this story would be much different. The more high-class society refuses to help those in need, and care only of their own gain the less lower society will have increasing criminal activity. Criminals have to do their part also, staying blind and letting societies inner workings manipulate them does not help anyone especially not themselves. By over expressing society and making a simple-minded hero, Callaghan creates an extreme example of what can happen when society denies rehabilitation. If everyone in this story had worked together in a positive way Red Ryan’s life and Kip Caley’s fictional story may have had a happier ending
Andy goes back to school and talks to his basketball coach about how he feels about Rob's death and how his fiends and family feel about the accident. In addition, they discuss Andy's sentence because Andy keeps punishing himself for Rob's death. Everybody at school was crying during Rob's memorial service. Grief Counselors from downtown come to the school to try to get the kids to share their feelings.
Henry Fosdick once said, “The tragedy of war is that it uses man’s best to do man’s worst.” In “The Red Convertible” by Louis Erdrich, there is a conflict amongst two brothers, Henry and Lyman as ones awareness towards reality is shifted upon the return of the Vietnam War. Henry’s experience fighting in the Vietnam War is the responsibility for the unexpected aftermath that affects their brotherhood. The event of Henry fighting in the war through fears, emotions and horrors that he encounters is the source of his “Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome [PTSD].” It has shaped his own perception of reality and his relationship with his brother Lyman and the strong bond that they had shared.
The movie, Training Day, demonstrates how some police officers take advantage of their positions which is realistic. Mikkelsen states that, ?The new movie Training Day is an excellent fictional demonstration of how the State, in this case the police, provide a ?legalized channel for crime? (Mikkelsen 1).? It is hard to define the line between doing the right thing and doing the wrong thing to stop a crime. As Mikkelson explains, ?Many of the events are to be expected: violence against suspects, confiscation and use of drugs and especially money, violations of due process, graft (Mikkelsen 1).? At the end of the movie the main character is murdered and the police department makes up a story venerating his death in a positive manner. In all truth Harris was murdered by the Russians because he lost his temper and killed someone who was ?talking trash? about him. This is shown when Mikkelsen says, ?The state must defend cops, when possible, because publicity about ?bad cops? does not reflect well o...
Roy’s story starts when he gets kicked out of The society for having a different beliefs. Roy goes into great detail and explains his beliefs that there was no alien encounters at all and that there was a pattern that explained what all the people thoughts of encounters. Roy’s believed a mysterious set of monsters feed on fear. These monsters evoked fear with the beings of aliens, ghosts, the lochness monster and other creatures. And that these monsters must keep up with the times and society by continuing to reinvent and that is why the pattern keep changing and different abductions keep happening. Jack then realises that his brother was afraid to be alone because of the monster he thought was real. The story ends with Jack finding his way to get his brother out of his life once and for
The story’s initial setting is Roy on a train with his scout, Sam Simpson. Malamud gives the reader information regarding where the story is taking place and where Roy has come from with great imagery when he writes, “As the ...
Some of this aggression and violence can be traced back to Rampart. Rampart was started in the 70’s to confront some of the gang violence that was ravaging the North West side of LA. Chief Gates instituted the Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums or CRASH anti-gang program. These officers were under little supervision, were the roughest and most aggressive officers that LAPD had, and seemed to think that they were above the law. It is well known that a major cause of corruption in these specialty units is lack of supervision.
In the early 1900’s the Boston police were ranked among the best law enforcement groups in the world. Underneath this reputation of being one of the best in the world, the police department was having some trouble. Most of the police stations were old and deteriorating. An officer would have to many hours a week. The pay for most policemen were very low. While inflation was in much affect the policeman’s salary stayed the same. And the men were promised raises but never saw much more than they had already made. The Boston city policemen were very angry over these iss...
First is Roy, who is dying of AIDS because of his sexual dealings. He keeps his love life separate from his professional life because it could damage his reputation. He lies to people, telling them he has cancer to cover up his homosexuality and prevent them from knowing about
...ulture. Together the characters of Watchmen reflect an unflattering image of American identity. We sacrifice morals to defend principles rather than saving people. We sacrifice ourselves for commercial gain and for the fame that comes from the worship of strangers. We worship our own achievements, obsess over time and in the end we lose what makes us human as we continue down a path that takes us farther away from each other and deeper into ourselves.

It talks about ethical dilemmas that police officer face every day. They also discuss different ways to improve the negative impact of unethical leadership and the tarnished public image that it has created.
sent back to jail for life. Miklo’s personality changes from the beginning of the movie to the end as the movie progresses. As Miklo faces and racism and differential attitude from others because of the way he looks on the outside while trying his best to get accepted by others. The director and producer did a well job but showing the racism in each ethnicity making sure California had such a problem. Even with the movie being about 4 hours it has a very interesting plot as it is full of action and is based on real life situations that the Producer of the film experienced himself. I wouldn't change anything if had a chance to because the movie was directed to perfection. The camera angles the director used was great they knew exactly where
