What makes men and women different? Other than the anatomy of their bodies and a woman’s ability to birth a child, men and women are the same. They are both capable of doing the same jobs and deserve equality. Over hundreds of years, women across the world have been fighting to earn and keep rights women deserves. The National Organization for Women (NOW), was founded in 1966. NOW is the largest feminist activist organization in the United States (“Who We Are”). This organization takes on various issues and use different strategies and tactics to conquer and receive equality and different rights for all women. Education allows women to be more effective in today’s economy. In a study that was done, researchers found that women who earned an associate degree make less than men that do not go to college at all. Researchers also proved that women made $10,000 less five years after graduation than men who did not go to college. If every woman is educated then eventually there will be an incline throughout pay raises and promotions to women. A quote stated by Mary Ann Mason who is a Berkeley Law Professor states "Even as women have increasingly become breadwinners, however, they have not abdicated their role as family caregivers...Denied flexibility, many women are also denied raises and promotions, with the wage gap widening as a result." (Aquino, Lubin). This quote goes to show that women have expanded their educational backgrounds but still are denied raises and promotions. Some people may say that women make less because they choose to go into lower paying jobs that aren’t as risky and dangerous as the jobs that men take. In the workplace, it is a known fact that women early 76 cents to every male dollar (Fisanick, 131). Feminist groups imply that the wage gap is due to things such as discrimination and that women are the victims in the workplace. This may sound like a harsh discovery but it is statistically proven. While the statistic looks as if women are mispaid in the workplace, that isn’t true in every case. There are several factors that can impact a woman’s pay. These factors include time worked, college majors and career choices, and women “playing it safe”. Women typically tend to take more time out of the work place. This could be due to maternity leave, or other things. A woman’s college major or career choices impacts her pay as well. It is a proven fact that women go into jobs that require a social science degree and are typically lower paying
