WALL-E an animated movie released in 2008 by Pixar and Disney, presents a cautionary tale representing the potential future for us humans. Today, we struggle with overconsumption, corporate control, and the use of technology. The movie WALL-E successfully argues the addiction to technology, the lack of contact with the outside world because of it, as well as the lack of creativity caused by the use of technology. As humans, we have the ability to live our own lives with or without the use of technology. Most people, including myself have become a victim of technology dependency. In the movie WALL-E, the humans are forced to live in space aboard a ship called the Axiom because the planet they previously lived on is no longer habitable. The ship is completely run by robots and all the humans on the ship live a virtual lifestyle. There is basically no interaction between the people on the ship because absolutely everything is on a computer right in front of their faces. Although this is exaggerated compared to us today, people are still glued to their cellphones. A recent study by mobileinsurance.com has revealed that the average person spends 90 minutes per day on their cellphone. That may sound standard, but that amounts to 23 days per year and 3.9 years of the average persons life looking at a cellphone. We are misusing technology for our own benefits and it is giving us an out for having to figure out the solution to our own problems. All someone has to do to find out the ingredients to a certain meal or the operating hours of a certain business is to just look it up on the internet.
