“Trust is the glue of life. It's the most essential ingredient in effective communication. It's the foundational principle that holds all relationships.” 1
Trust is a basic, unseen, and important factor in diagnosis, treatment, and healing. So it is very important that a dentist and patient should understand what it is, why it’s important and what steps should be taken in building strong trust between dentist and patient. Dentists, who have the ability to communicate care and compassion, builds confidence in patients (Epstein 2003) which in result decrease patient anxiety and fear of dental procedures (Awad et al. 2000) and thus providing strength to a relation. Moreover, trust is main factor affecting the business of clinician. Dentist who builds a trustworthy relationship with patients always get more business in the operatory when existing patients starts referring other outside patients. Moreover, a strong trustworthy relationship always make the clinician to provide better services to his patients so that more stronger relationship can be build. Dentist will be more confident in asking health related queries as well as alerting the patients of any issue that is seen during diagnosis which may affect patient’s health in future. If the dentist has full trust in the patient, then in case of financial crises dentist may give choice to the patient to opt for treatment without putting the oral health in risk and making the payment later on. Above all, trust plays an important role in saving the dentist from law suits in case mistake is committed accidently and the patient may only oversee if a strong relationship of trust exists between two subjects.

To generate patients trust, dentist needs to be involve patient in the informed consent, and dentist should explains the risks, benefits, consequences, and alternatives involved in the treatment plan. Moreover patient should also be honest to dentist and should made dentist aware of all the special needs with respect to physical health, communication, religion beliefs etc., the time when patient enters the dental office.
Moreover, trust is a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something which can be achieved with mutual understanding communicated in an unbiased and ethical manner. To conclude, it is very necessary to avoid the situations where the trust can be broken, abused, misplaced, and violated since it is very dynamic in nature and it can be easily damaged but difficult to reform and reconstruct.
The best description of a dental hygienist is a professional whose main job is to teach their patients necessary oral hygiene skills and provide great dental care. They perform various tasks around a dentist’s office such as applying fluoride treatments, removing plaque and stains, taking x-rays, removing sutures, placing temporary fillings, and evaluating the patient’s overall health (“Dental Hygienist” Coin Career). Dental hygienists do not just work in a dental office, but they also can work at schools, nursing homes, health clinics, and many other dental settings. Close contact is necessary when doing this job. Working with people is an everyday thing in this profession, so one must be able to communicate and get along with their clients very well. Having certain traits such as excellent hand-eye coordination and great motor skills are very important to posses since dental hygienists work on their patients mouths (Porterfield 4). Communication is vital since dental hygienists are constantly teaching patients how to hav...
Trust is identified with a variety of settings and applications. Trust is regarded as the foundation of any therapeutic relationship, and an essential element of nurse–patient relationships. The concept applies to nurses in professional settings as it is considered inherent in the relationship between a nurse and their patient, (Britcher, 1999) and the patients’ family. A clear definition of what constitutes trust is difficult to find in the literature, and various concepts are viewed from the perspectives of the nurse-patient relationship, the nurse's work environment, and contexts from other disciplines. The dual perspectives of trust as process and outcome are adopted, and their relationship to measurement of the construct is identified. The concept is examined to determine if differences in its ...

Summary: Purpose of the study: According to Dinc and Gastmans, the purpose of this study is to look over empirical studies on the trust within the nurse- patient relationship and to analyze and synthesize the results.
Dentistry is a fascinating profession for its approach to patients, restoring function as well as es-thetic. I believe that Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is the most important specialty in dentistry and medicine which combines art with science. It is appealing when patients leave the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) clinics not only with good function and esthetic, but also in a better psychological status. And I find the AAOMS’s motto “Saving Faces.. Changing Lives..” very insi...
It has often been seen that certain dentist are in the field for their own personal gain by obtaining as much money as they can out of a patient. This can be a problem in that a patient may not be able to afford basic dental care if their insurance increases their rate. Dr. Pham has stated that when obtaining inventory that will help perform procedures like fillings, the company often gives dentist a range to which they can charge the patient. Meaning, if dentist wanted to, they could charge the minimum and break even, or charge the maximum and gain a huge surplus. If dentist were only in this physician to obtain as much money they could, patients wouldn’t be able to afford the basic necessities. Thus, dentist would start to lose patients due to not being financially stable to obtain such services. This would create a division on patients who can afford such health cares and those who cannot. As a result, creating your own personal financial gain through the dental field is in no way a means to over-diagnose and over treat a patient it they do not need the services and or can not afford

It is important for dental hygienist to communicate with their patient to keep a dental business successful. Their skill is to connect with their patient in the best possible and honest way required for them to take control of their oral health and well-being. It is up to the patients to take the info that is provide to them and to decide if the information will help them about their treatment. Dental staff should never let a patient leave their clinic without telling them about their oral health and notify them about the facts. According to Butler T (2014), Patients always need to know that their dental practice cares about them, from the assistant, to the hygienist, and to the dentist. Patients are people, and they naturally want to be informed about their health. They want to feel like their dental hygienist is cared that is why it is a must for a dental hygienist to connect with their patients by listening to their concerns, to be present, and to learn their story. Dental workforce should connect with their dental patients inside and outside the clinic. They should give the patients helpful dental care information. For instance, dental staff should always communicate with their patient about what toothbrushes they should be using, and give them advice for healthier teeth and general dental hygiene health tips. Matter of fact, dental workforce should always keep in touch with their dental patients after an appointment or after they had done a dental surgery at the clinic. Whether it is asking if their filling feels all right, if they have had any issues with their dental crown. According to Harvard Medical School Special Health Reports (2012), as with plenty other cancers, the sooner oral cancer is discovered, the better chances people have of successfully treating it. That means there are several diseases out there that
Later in the appointment, there will already be many objects such as cotton gauze, instruments, and suction placed in the patients’ mouths; therefore, ensuring the patients the freedom of their own personal space is the least dentists could do for the
While working with the clinical staff, I was responsible for taking X-rays and assisted with daily clinical duties namely instrument sterilization and administration. Thanks to that experience, I realized that working in the clinical setting is as important as the getting engaged in doing community service. To become an exceptional dentist, it is equally important to maintain the community ties in the society. Concurrently, I was elected as the president of the Jain Center of Cincinnati.
After all of that, the dream of being a dentist had came. " I can do it" I told my self. I want to be that man who has the ability to improve people's social lives, enhancing their self-confident through designing their smiles
As the child of an orthodontist, my father, and a dental hygienist, my mother, pursuing a career in dentistry seemed to be a logical choice. However, as I watched my father with his patients, observing him as he diagnosed the problems presented to him, suggested possible solutions and formulated treatment plans to provide effective and efficient treatments for the patients, it sparked what was initially just a logical choice to shift into a curious passion for the field. To me, dentistry is a vast academic field, engaging in its demand for the problem solving skills required to propose an ideal solution, the manual dexterity required to perform said solution, and the empathy and human skills required to communicate effectively with others. I feel that there is great satisfaction in maintaining and improving the oral health and confidence of people. The high standards involved are intimidating challenges, but they are ones I am determined to confront.
