The Most Important Element of Style
I've collected numerous ideas from both Joseph William's book Style Toward Clarity and Grace and William Strunk and E.B. White's The Elements of Style. These books serve as reference guides to writers seeking guidance in improving their writing skills. I feel the text format of any writing is the most important element of style.
The text layout in regards to style deals with font, size and contrast. The font makes the text. You are able to change the font to show importance or the use quotes. An example would be "bolding" an example. A normal font such as Times Roman can be used to for the body. However, a font such as Arial Black allows the text to stand out. Changes in size also have the same effect. These adjustments in the format of the text also creates a contrast in the writing. This allows the reader to easily identify the important points. I feel Strunk and White choose a design that is easy to read and sticks directly to the point. The reader is able to locate the issue and find the solution and an example to problem. The style issue is listed by number and bolded to stand out. An example of the same correct style issue is given in different versions. This allows the reader to apply such style to their own writings. These different topics are stated in bold to be easily read. The guide gives the reader good examples to assist in their writings. This is important because the reader is searching for something particular and seeking a particular resolution. Providing an easy to read guide is extremely helpful. A guide that is easy to navigate decreases the stress often associated with writing. The ability to find things easy is always helpful.
The layout in Williams’ text is not easy to read. The paragraphs often seem connected. The effect of text format to prefered reading is evident in this guide. Several of my classmates agreed that this guide was not as easily accessible as Strunk & White. These feelings were solely based upon the format of the text.

The strengths in my writing are my organizational skills, grammatical construct, and my work ethic. Organizing an essay is a very natural process for me. I always follow the basic guidelines for the structure of an essay, which state that one must have an introduction, thesis statement, body, conclusion, and a works cited when needed. The “Are Helicopter Parents Entering the No Fly Zone?” essay, “Animal Cloning—How Unethical Is It?” essay, and the “The Clean Water Act—Is it Successfully Reducing Water Pollution?” essay all have a proper introduction, an informative thesis statement, a body, great conclusions, and works cited pages. Formatting the essays is an integral aspect of organizational skills. Each new paragraph is indented, the font is twelve-point Times New Roman, the sentences are double spaced, and the headers are correct.
One position within the debate for physician assisted suicide is that it should not be legalized. Many defenders cite the issue of pain for this stance. They believe that the amount of suffering that a terminally ill patient is going through is deluding their minds. They also linked this distress towards clinical depression, the root that they say are causing them to want to ...
In conclusion, all should firmly believe that physician assisted suicide should not be legalized in any state. Although it is legalized in Oregon it is not wise for any other state to follow that example. By now, all should strongly believe the growing public support for PAS still remains a very dangerous trend. The role of our physician is that of a healer, not a killer. It must be understood that in some cases the only way to relieve someone from their pain is to let them go. On the contrary, each human life has an

To trace the origin of the Transcendental movement one needs to go back to the city of Concord, Massachusetts. There during the early 19th century many well-known and world-renowned authors were following the practices of one man, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Emerson, who was considered America's first philosopher, had earlier traveled to Europe and became fascinated by the concepts of one German philosopher known as Kant. According to Emerson's understanding of Kant, there were two pure objects in the world in which are the bases of everything, nature and soul. He took this philosophy and brought it back to America where it later, with the help of Henry David Thoreau, revolutionized American literature.
People will not know their partner is abusive until they are abused. Not everyone can just easily leave their relationship because of love or children. You can not just tell someone not to be abusive or to not love someone. The best thing to do is to watch for traits from the partner. Jealousy, possessiveness, accusations, threats and temper are things to watch for because these are all signs of an abusive person. Domestic violence will always be a huge problem but we can help minimize it if we watch out for it among our friends and
Physical abuse can be more than one being hit, it also includes “Withholding access to resources necessary to maintain health, for example, medical care, food or fluids, sleep, hygienic assistance, etc.” (“Five Forms of Domestic Violence,” n.d.). Sexual abuse can include: forcing one to commit a sexual action against his or her will, rape, or even “undermining one’s sexuality (“Five Forms of Domestic Violence,” n.d.). Psychological abuse can contain, but is not limited to: threats, intimidation, or stalking. Emotional abuse has a range of many factors, but some things are: criticism, name-calling, and insults. As for economical abuse, it is usually referred to when the abuser withholds money from the victim, but it can also include the abuser forbidding the victim from employment, harassing one at his or her job, control of the money, etc. (“Five Forms of Domestic Violence,”
Some warning signs of domestic abuse include “preventing contact and communication with friends and family, controls money and important identifications such as driver’s licenses and passports, causes embarrassment with bad names and put-downs, critical about survivors appearance and/or behavior, attempts to control what their partner wears, has unrealistic expectations, threatens to take away or hurt the children, acts like abuse is not a big deal or denies it’s happening, plays mind games to place blame on the survivor, destroys property or threatens to kill pets, intimidates with guns or other weapons, hits or forces sexual acts, threatens to commit suicide.” (Joyful Heart Foundation
One must remember that writing style is not something that just happens, but rather something that is developed. With the help of guides like Elements of Style, or books like Style Toward Clarity and Grace, one can begin to develop one.
Domestic violence is the willful intimidation of power and control by an intimate partner against another. It doesn’t always look the same because every relationship is different. It can happen to any sex, age, race, gender, or religion group. Abusive relationships come in different forms including physical abuse, sexual abuse and even emotional abuses, but in all cases you find one partner controlling another. It can result in physical injuries, emotional trauma and sometimes death. All of these can affect a victim’s life for a long period of time. There are many different signs of domestic violence and many people wonder why an abused victims stay with their partner.
