Tools, materials, and technology would mean nothing to someone if they don't posses any of the key characteristics to survive. These character traits are bravery, determination, and adaptability. The people and characters that I think best resemble all of these traits are Rainsford from The Most Dangerous Game, Malala Yousafzai and Chuck Noland from Castaway.
in the face of any challenge, it is very important for people to stay determined to reach their goal and to survive. when in a difficult tuition is seems easy to give up and surrender to your problem. But, when you're determined surprising things can happen. A prime example of this is Malala Yousafzai. she is a powerful young girl who stood up to the Taliban for taking away her

Chuck had plans to marry his longtime girlfriend Kelly, but when he was on a business trip and I FedEx plane they crashed and he was the only survivor. Then, Chuck was stranded on an island with limited resources and far from any other land and civilization. In the film, Chuck looks for food and water and the first thing he sees is coconuts. after eating them he states, "Coconuts are a natural lactate”. in response to this, he had to adapt to his surroundings to get a more nutritious meal, so he decides to fish. Another adoptable moment of his was when he found boxes from the FedEx plane wash up on shore, inside one of the boxes he found a pair of ice skates that he then fashioned into a knife and a very important tool that he use for the rest of his time there on the island. In addition, another adoptable decision he made was making a boat from all of the Materials from the surroundings that he had such as, rope from leaves. Although, one of the most adaptable decisions that he made was deciding to have a friendship with the volleyball named Wilson. Although, it may seem that this would have a little impact on his survival, Wilson helped keep him company and, was a symbol of hope for him. I know this because in a part of the movie where he needed more rope for a raft he was building, “Wilson” suggested that he go and collect it from a cliff that he was at one point, attempting hang
The Only Game, by Mike Lupica, is about a 6th grade boy named Jack that is very good at baseball. After tryouts they found out who all made the team and it was basically the same team that they had last year. This year was supposed to be the year that they win the Little League World Series. Offensive Play It’s time for kickoff. The kicker tee’s up the ball and is waiting for the call from the referee so he can kick the ball. The tension is building up with the opposing team as they await the kick. The whistle blows and the referee gives him the clear to kick the ball.
Now we are into the body of the film. Chuck wakes up in the life raft. He checks his beeper and his watch. He begins to realize that he is alone but still attempts to communicate. He hollers, “Hello, anybody?” He writes H-E-L-P in the sand and later with tree limbs. Now that he has survived the crash and washed up on an island, complications occur; new problems arise.
Would you have been brave enough to play a “game” that was to most likely end in death? In the story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, a man by the name of Rainsford is clearly brave because of the fact that he played the most dangerous game. His bravery can be proved by his actions, appearance, and speech.
Chuck worked his butt off to get to be that successful. Before he left his self actuation need was complete. Chuck tried to be the best boyfriend and employee. When Chuck wasn’t working he was surprising Kelly at work. Once he crashes, he still tried to be the best he can be. He works through his problems and find solutions. Chuck found one of the plot's body in the water and pulls him to shore. Chuck then buries his body and has his own funeral him. Chuck could have just left the man's body in the water Chuck respects himself and the pilot too much, so he buries him.
Although pride can lead to beneficial outcomes, pride with the absence of empathy can lead to a devastating result. The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell shows that having too much pride and no empathy can get someone in some terrible trouble. The theme is proven by Rainsfords pride and unempathetic-ness, how the general had too much pride, and how the general only saw himself as the hunter, not the hunted.
In the novel, Lord of the Flies, The boys have just landed on the island are have gathered together. They talk about what they need to survive and how they will be rescued, when the meeting comes to an end Ralph mentions that, “there’s another thing. [They] can help them find [them]. If a ship comes near the island they may not notice [them]. So [they] must make smoke on top of the mountain. [They] must make a fire” (Golding 38). In the quote, the first assembly is happening right after the crash. They all group together and decide what their priorities are so they can get rescued. They all decided that they need fire, shelters, and food. It is in this very quote that survival is what drives one’s decisions because even after a plane crash, the surviving boys gather up and decide what they need to survive with. No matter what has happened, they all had the will to overpower the traumatic experience and decide and act upon their decisions. Along the same lines, in the movie, Castaway, Chuck Noland also demonstrates that survival is what influence one’s decisions. In movie Castaway, Chuck is seen doing many things that show how the will to survive impacts his decisions and actions. This is demonstrated when it is his first few days on the island, he
...lways in change, and that’s the only constant he can hold on to. As time progresses , a lot of things have to move forward , and if a human being is consumed in inspecting and analyzing every second and every minute passing by , that human will never evolve. In the 4 years Chuck has spent on the island, he has learnt lots about nature and himself. The experiences he has gained serve as hands molding Chuck’s character and engraving it with self-reliance. Self-reliance plays a major role in the plot of the movie, as it is the only way Chuck uses to reach safety. Without being self-reliant and depending on himself, Chuck would’ve never made that raft to reach safety and would’ve never been found drifting by a passing cargo ship. It’s just like the movie is itself screaming out loud a transcendentalist doctrine: Self-reliance is your way to safety and a better life.
Gaspare Traversi created his oil on canvas painting, Quarrel over a Board Game, in 1752. As the title states, the painting’s focus is on two gentlemen quarreling over a game of what appears to be checkers. This painting is currently being exhibited at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, CT. The painting is not large. It is 4 by 5 ft. in a gold patterned frame. The painting is placed on a wall in a brightly lighted room at a viewer’s eye level.
In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Zaroff is a hunter that lives on an island in the middle of nowhere. Zaroff demonstrates that he is rich, smart, and confident.
The setting is an important piece of any story. The setting can help paint a clear picture in order to establish what the characters are feeling as well as setting the tone of story. In the following stories, “The Destructors” and “The Most Dangerous Game,” Graham Greene and Richard Connell demonstrate the tone of the story by using Old Misery’s house and General Zaroff’s Chateau as the main focal point. While the two stories present differences in the tone of the setting, they both make a connection of the beauty that these two places possess. Greene uses Old Misery’s house to formulate the story that prepares the reader of how a post-war building and surroundings can have an effect on people’s behavior and feelings while Connell uses General Zaroff’s Chateau in a way to deceive the reader from what is really happening in the jungle of Ship Trap Island.
“The world is made up of two classes-the hunters and the huntees [...] Life is for the strong, to be lived by the strong, and, if need be, taken by the strong (Connell 16).”
When it comes to survival, one can prove that with determination, the middle and lower class can succeed and triumph over the high class. “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, is about a hunter Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff on Ship Trap Island. Sanger Rainsford finds shelter on the island and is greeted by General Zaroff. He created a dangerous game which was to hunt humans and Sanger Rainsford was forced to play the game in exchange for his freedom. Frightened and sleep deprived, Sanger Rainsford tried to survive and was able to escape. In conclusion, middle class Sanger Rainsford was able to succeed and triumph over the powerful General Zaroff. Sanger Rainsford proved that with hard work and motivation, one can succeed. The
During this interview Wilson was strict when answering questions as well as providing straight answers. The most Wilson divulged with information on was his career starting from the age of thirteen which I found to be intriguing. At first to start off the interview I asked Wilson, “What did you do for a living?” He said, “Survived,” which caused a laugh between the two of us. After that Wilson went
