Origin of the moon

The moon is an important part of our everyday lives but yet we don't know the real reason for the formation of our natural satellite. Therefore, people have created multiple theories about how it was made with evidence and support. There are many different opinions on this topic and only the best ones are accepted. The moon will forever be a mystery to the world. First and foremost, the first theory is the capture theory which is about the moon being formed somewhere else in space but was captured in Earth's orbit after passing by. This theory is hard to believe because of how big the universe is and how small Earth is. Although other planets have caught moons in their orbit, it is still a more unlikely story. Overtime it was said that the chunk rounded and formed together as a small spherical ball that was then caught in its orbit. This theory is not likely to be true because of how fast Earth would have had to be spinning to throw out a chunk of material like that. The similarities with all of these theories is that the moon has to be made out of similar material as the Earth and that they have similar compositions. I would not accept this theory because it does not have much detail and explanation. It also makes little to no sense based on what it has told …show more content…

Each theory is unique and has a decent amount of evidence to support it and make it believable. The most likely theory in my eyes is the Giant Impact theory based on what I have read. We will never know how our satellite was formed until we have all the evidence and information to support it.
