Thessalonians 4:1-3 says, “Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more, for you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. It is God's will that you should be sanctified.” During my time at Saint Joseph College I have been able to pick up a lot being in the core program. Even though I have learned a lot from all of my core classes, there has some been a hand full of core classes where I found myself having trouble finding how they relate to me in my everyday life. Core nine has easily been the easiest class for me to relate to. I like to believe that I am a religious person. I take pride in the fact that I talk to God every day, and have a very healthy relationship with him, and do everything I can to live my life the way he intended me to. Though I do not attend church every Sunday, I always find time to read my daily bread, and my daily praise. So being in this class, and being able to discover more of the truth about the meaning of life from a religious standpoint kept me focused all semester.
Christian humanism can mean a lot of different things. The meaning of the term can vary depending on your life views, and how you interpret information. After breaking down my previous beliefs and all the information I picked up from core nine this was what I was able to come up with. What Christian Humanism is to me is simply the fact that God is most satisfied by people when they put him first and live a righteous life because it’s the right thing to do, not because we believe living by his word will give everlasting life in Heaven.
I believe this for many reasons; one of the fi...

... Jesus gave his life so we could all have a second chance. I am thankful I am blessed with the ability to search for answer and follow down the right steps on my own. But with that choice comes great reasonability, we impact our communities in more ways than most of us are aware of, big reason why I’m glad I was able to attended Saint Joseph College and have the opportunity to view the professorial life from a religious standpoint as well from a non religious one. After completing Core nine I was able to tie a lot into my old beliefs together with what I recently learned, I feel a lot more confident with my relationship with God, and felt like the course has helped me tie a lot of loose ends. It also has helped me understand Christian Humanism and why it’s so important to build that foundation with God so we are able to impact the world in the best ways possible.
Secular Humanism and Biblical Worldview are beliefs with different worldview meanings. Secular Humanism is a belief that doesn’t believe in the God. Biblical worldview is a belief in God and his word. Secular humanism worldview believes that man exist and found only nature. In secular humanism world science is source for knowledge and existence. In the Christian worldview has belief in everything that existence such as man, God, and other things. Christians also believes there will be eternal life and secular humanism believes when man dies life is over.
Humanism denotes a concern for humanity in everyday practice. Humanism includes respect, empathy, compassion, honour and integrity. Respect refers to regard for another person. It is the personal commitment one make to honour other people’s choices regarding their medical care. By respecting their decision all information must be kept private and confidential and all procures carried out must be with the consent of the patient. To respect a person is also to respect their culture, age, ethnicity, and disability. This signals a sense of worth to all humans. This ensures women’s needs are prioritised which is section one of the code. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of other people, without developing an emotional attachment
“First, there is the call to be a Christian. Second, for each individual there is a specific call—a defining purpose or mission, a reason for being. Every individual is called of God to respond through service in the world. Third, there is the call that we face each day in response to the multiple demands on our lives—our immediate duties and responsibilities” (Smith, ...
Christianity is more than just a philosophy or “crutch” in life. I became a Christian back in 2008 and I’ve been through a lot since then. I can say that without God and my faith I would not have made it through those tough years. Being Christian is more than dependency and using God as a “crutch” in life, it’s making the choice to live morally for God and worshipping him and accepting that you cannot do everything on your own. Even entering college has been tough but my dependency on God has gotten me through and I know that with God by my side anything is possible. “Our desire for a personal relationship of God is strong, but we usually fail to recognize that desire for what it is” (Keller 1). I’ve learned that I can’t blame everyone and everything for my problems. I can’t even blame myself because by setting high standards I’m setting myse...
Though I struggle to put the amount of growth I’ve experienced into words, I have undoubtedly taken huge leaps in my faith upon being at MCC. My first semester here, I had wide eyes. I was frantically searching to grasp onto this vision I had of new friends, a degree, new ministries, discovering who I truly am, digging into deeper into a relationship with the Lord and ultimately embarking on what would become my future. I learned a few lessons the hard way, but I’m convinced we grow the most through the tougher times of life. I’ve grown to narrow my focus on Jesus, and to see my situation through a perspective of the one who is far greater and bigger than my situation. I no longer
This report will outline the views on the Catholic Church's traditions and the views on a Secular Worldview, the Secular View that will be discussed is Secular Humanism. Each group will be compared and contrasted with the other. There will be two questions that will be focused on throughout this report, “How do people determine right and wrong?” and also “Is there a meaning/purpose of life”. The word Secular, itself means that it has no connection to any religious or spiritual means. Secular Humanism is based around having no religious beliefs and Secular Humanists are solely rooted in the belief of Science and a strong opinion on having a fair ethical system in the world
A belief is a feeling that an idea is real or true. Beliefs are shared
In the book of Genesis, it tells us that God created the world. He put
The word humanism is a relatively broad term described by Merriam-Webster as, “a system of values and beliefs that is based on the idea that people are basically good and that problems can be solved using reason instead of religion”. While this seems a perfectly reasonable definition for the present day, it does not adequately apply to medieval society. If such a definition was used by a person from the 12th century, that person would likely be looked at incredulously and then swiftly called a heretic or a blasphemer. The role of religion in medieval society is too ingrained in the medieval world. Richard Southern provides a more likely definition of medieval humanism. He describes humanism as having “elements of dignity, order, reason and
Defined by Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary as a system of values and beliefs that is based on the idea that people are basically good and that problems can be solved using reason instead of religion (Merriam-Webster), Humanism takes an ethical and philosophical stance that is expressed through a myriad of types including Literary Humanism, Renaissance Humanism, Western Cultural Humanism, Philosophical Humanism, Christian Humanism, Modern Humanism, Secular Humanism, and Religious Humanism (American Humanist Association). Though there are many different “denominations”, if you will, of Humanism, they are all typically aligned with secularism and a perspective that believes in “human nature”, or how humans naturally think, feel, and act.
However, what is humanism? Humanism is focusing on the actual physical human being rather than supernatural or religious beings (an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems. a Renaissance cultural movement that turned away from medieval scholasticism and revived interest in ancient Greek and Roman thought.
The more I attended class the more I got my questions answered. I learned what it must have been like for God to suffer on the cross for my sins. I also learned exactly how much Paul loved Christ and how far he would go to make Christ proud of him. I become more knowledgeable about the bible and when my eight year-old niece had questions I was able to answer them. Coming to a Christian school and attending Doctor Sims class honestly made me a better person. ...
An old history teacher of mine once said that people are incapable of seeing the endless things they share when these common aspects of life stand in the shadow of their few differences. The differences of which he spoke promote unwarranted bias and prevent the advancement of all of humanity and even promote acts of war. Chief among those differences is religious belief. People treat people with a different religion with such great intolerance. They will either discriminate or commit hate crimes just to get their point across. For a country whose bill of rights promises the free practice and exercise of religion before all other things, this fact is startling. From islamophobia to anti-Semitism, religious intolerance presents itself as a growing issue in the United States. However, the problem isn’t a domestic one; the issue persists globally and continues to cause conflict between countries and social groups.
Encarta Dictionary says that Humanism is a system of thought that centers on human beings and their values, capacities and worth. Encarta also goes on the say that, in philosophy, humanism is an attitude that emphasizes the dignity and worth of an individual. A basic premise of humanism is that people are rational beings who possess within themselves the capacity for truth and goodness. I see myself as a being a humanist through everyday life. I always try to see the good in a person when he/she makes me angry or sad, and say I to myself that maybe that person has had a bad day and living life is difficult at the moment. Socrates was even an early humanist of sorts. He can be quoted as saying, "to know the good is to do the good." He believed that nobody voluntarily commits an evil act because evil comes from ignorance, ignorance being not stupidity, but having a lack of knowledge. If all people thought as humanists, would peace be spread across the globe?
The third perspective is humanistic, which is primarily focused on making oneself and the world innately better. In a journal by E.M Robertis, says, “Humanism is being accused of having con- tributed to selfishness in American culture”. This statement I disagree with however. I think that could be a valid argument saying that the approach creates us to focus too much on ourselves causing us to be selfish. My argument to this would be that this approach is to, yes, help us become better, but to also help the world around us become better as well. The fact that we can help ourselves become better and help the world do the same makes this not become so internalized and selfish. I connect with this approach because of this. I always have strived
