It was no coincidence that We, written by Yevgeny Zamyatin, follows a path parallel to the biblical story Adam and Eve. Let us begin with the broad picture of things occurring in We. OneState is more than just a city existing within the circling boundaries of a wall, keeping all things complex out, and all things simple inside. The clearest answer is a character that goes by the name of The Benefactor. This character, who is never described with great detail remains mysterious throughout the novel, is the individual who set up OneState as the “paradise” it is now. The benefactor went to all his people, as god did to Adam and Eve, and asked them to give up their freedom, such as, their privacy, right to wonder and explore, and to make personal decisions, in order for them all to achieve happiness. The people of OneState agreed to his terms, just as Adam and Eve did to start, and gave up all their freedoms in order to achieve “paradise.” The Benefactor, as stated previously, remains mysterious throughout the novel, but, yet, the people of OneState are always aware that he could be watching over them at any point throughout the day; that is why the people of OneState follows his orders even when he is not present, as though he has a watchful eye over them. This is the same idea with God and his vigilant eye over Adam and Eve. In both stories, the characters are constantly aware that the individual above, god or the benefactor, is always watching and if they disobey him, he could take away their happiness with a simple single striking

Those associated with ancient cultures/civilizations aim to ensure the successful survival or well-being of themselves and that particular culture/civilization of their association, but not all are beneficial, prosperous, or fortunate. Every civilization in the world has its own story of how things are created. Each story reflects how people see and think the world at their time. In this essay, I am going to compare two myths of how man was created – the creation tale of Mohawk Tribe and the Hebrew Bible creation story. There are a lot of similarities as well as differences between these legends. While some differences between the two tales are the development of the stories and the meaning behind the stories, the similarities between them is the concept of creationism.
One where I can have a use in my life, be joyous, and have a promising future. While some may think that pressing the button will unleash a heaven upon them, it really won’t. The color and temperature of a person’s eyes comprise the first layer of his identity. Welcoming, smiling eyes identify their owner as a friend, while angry, bitter eyes warn of a comparably biting personality. A person’s eyes show much at a first glance. In literature, they perform a more significant job, reflecting the character of the soul they guard. In developing the famously complex characters of his novel East of Eden, John Steinbeck heartily subscribed to this literary symbolism by giving special meaning to the eyes of his characters as ‘windows to the soul.’ This can be seen especially in the characters of Adam and Cathy Trask.
Symbolism is very prominent over the course of this story, giving it that much more meaning. Knowles makes not only one, but several instances to religious principles and more precisely in this case, Adam and Eve. These of jealousy, greed, and selfishness are prominent throughout both stories as well is a significant fall whether it would be as monstrous as humanity or on the smaller scale of relationships. The disruption of peace and harmony are also evident in the two. In addition, it is interesting how the author finds a way to tie them all into each other.

Steinbeck uses the biblical story of Cain and Abel in East of Eden to show us that we do not have set fate. Steinbeck uses the Hebrew word “timshel”, which means “thou mayest”, to suggest that man has the ability to choose good or evil. “Timshel” affects the characters in East of Eden such as Cal and Aron and their choice of overcoming good or evil. Steinbeck sees this novel as his most important work, and he uses it as a way to state his personal ideas concerning mankind:“The free, exploring mind of the individual human is the most valuable thing in the world. And this I would fight for: the freedom of the mind to take any direction it wishes, undirected. And this I must fight against: any idea, religion, or government which limits or destroys the individual.”(Steinbeck,132). Steinbeck shows God has given humans free will and their ability to choose good or evil, if they so decide. He portrays the “C” characters to be connected to Cain, such as Charles and Cal and the “A” characters to be connected to Abel, such as Aron and Adam.

“The United Fruit Co.” uses religious mockery to attack the United States’ arrogance criticizing America’s morality (Hawkins 42). Pablo Neruda begins his poem, “The United Fruit Co.” with the sounding of trumpets unleashing a variety of symbolic meaning and commencing the Biblical allusions that set the sarcastic tone of the poem (Fernandez 1; Hawkins 42). These trumpets are an introduction to Jehovah who “divided his universe” inevitably adding more biblical allusions by symbolizing God’s presence (Fernandez 2; line 3). The use of trumpets as a means of introduction is a metaphor for the acknowledgement of the United States who thinks they are the kings of creation (Fernandez 2). For this reason some of the biblical allusions translate best to the Book of Genesis as Neruda’s poem is a metaphor for the Biblical creation myth (Fernandez 2, 3). It is impossible to taste the sweet without having first tasted the sour. This is one of the many lessons found within Genesis 2.0 and more specifically the story of Adam and Eve. It is also from this twisted tale of betrayal and deceit that we gain our knowledge of mankind?s free will, and God?s intentions regarding this human capacity. There is one school of thought which believes that life is mapped out with no regard for individual choice while contrary belief tells us that mankind is capable of free will and therefore has control over hisown life and the consequences of his actions. The story of Adam and Eve and the time they spent in ?paradise? again and again points to the latter as the truth. Confirming that God not only gave mankind the ability to think for himself but also the skills needed to take responsibility for those thoughts and the actions that they produced.
Giacomo’s garden, like Eden, has lush greenery, has borders which keep separate the inside and outside worlds, and has its own version of Adam and Eve, who are, as Oliver Evans argues, Beatrice and Giovanni, respectively (186).
