None Escape Their Shadow: Cody Blunt’s The Master of Shadows Cody Blunt’s piece titled The Master of Shadows represents the assassin, Zed. This art piece was created in 2013 for the company Riot Games as the digital concept art for the character Zed. This piece can be found displayed as a representation of the character in their popular multiplayer online battle arena, League of Legends. In The Master of Shadows, Cody Blunt uses complementary colors, value, saturation, tenebrism, shape, and a small variety of different lines to capture the resting energy of Zed and provides a serene and mysterious interpretation of a lifeless city. Beginning with the size of the image, Blunt did not give a set size for this image, but typically you will …show more content…
The upper left of the artwork contains a bright pale yellow glow that is casted upon the city and onto Zed’s back. Shadows are also very much visible in this image. Zed himself is actually a human-like representation of a shadow. In the background there is a dark silhouette of his figure that is actually a tangible shadow resembling a positive space to the background. The image depicts tenebrism in it’s use of light and shadow because there are incredibly strong highlights on the back and metallic parts of Zed while there are strong shadows on his garments. It also includes the intense light beaming out from in between the faint clouds into the darker value city. The location that Zed appears to be in looks as if there is constant darkness because of the absence of bright colors and the abundance of desaturated colors. The image is consisted of primarily dark dull colors and minimal bright colors. Blunt is able to create a sense of space by primarily using the complementary colors red and green. He used a desaturated and high value green for his background and a bright satin red for details in the foreground. Because cool colors appear to move away from us, Blunt chose to use a dull green as his primary color for his background because it gives the background a sense of descending space. Also, because warm colors appear to move towards us, he used a satin red as his main color for details on Zed because it makes the figure stand out in front of the background. Blunt also portrayed space and balance using detail and color. The image is very side-heavy considering the fact that the focal point of the image is primarily on the right side. Blunt created two focal points on the foreground, one being the up-close shuriken to the left and the other being Zed. The weight of the shuriken to the left balances out the intense focus on Zed which brings unity to the image. The beam of light through the clouds also
The house is surrounded by green grass which makes the image more realistic and the trees in the background and the tree in the foreground create a sense of depth. The image is quite well spaced out, due to a vast amount of area situated between objects. There is a visual equality in the symmetrical image. There is a contrast between the colours of the image to draw attention to the house. The image looks to be taken in the dusk of the afternoon, where there is not much natural light, which creates a darker tone. The main emphasis of the image is the house, which seems to be quite different when the image is first seen by a viewer. The texture helps emphasize the main focal point seeing though it is quite smooth, the colour also creates a mood towards the image and atmosphere in the image. The line helps develop structure due to the tone being a medium darkness. In some places (the area surrounding the house) is a degree lighter and shadows are present to help form the line throughout this part of the
The lighting for this picture was absolutely perfect because it was getting dark and in my opinion darkness defines the projects. The darkness represents the mystery of fear within the community since the projects is known for drugs and violence. The people living within the community possibly fear the fact that their children have to grow up in that specific environment. Darkness is substantial and compelling. The second images shows the different side within Bedford Stuyvesant that many do not get to see through media. I specifically took this picture because it is the complete opposite of the first image. The image shows beautiful brownstone houses of various colors. These bright cool colors represent warmth within the community. These colors say the neighborhood is not all about crime and violence but beauty within. This image gives a whole new perspective to people who have never visited within Bedford Stuyvesant and has only seen what the media portrays. The colors of the houses give life and a sense of personality to the neighborhood. Bedford Stuyvesant is truly one of the most beautiful neighborhoods I have ever
The visual I have created is meant to display how the author Seven Galloway effectively used descriptive language and imagery in the novel The Cellist of Sarajevo to demonstrate character development in Dragan, one of the protagonists. For instance, in the first image moving forward from the 12’oclock section of the clock, we can see an image of Dragan in Sarajevo with the intent of setting the mood of war, where “everything around him is a peculiar shade of grey”. This imagery is meant to display not only the visual cast set upon Sarajevo in a time of war, but also to show Dragan’s internal demeanor and how he initially perceives the world around him, while the idea of a ‘grey’ world surrounding him outlines his pessimistic worldview. These ideas are also manifest in the following image, where we
Many different sensory properties compose the artwork. There is a soft light that seems very natural coming off the boy’s face. The light shines at the boy’s face at an elevated level, as if he were outside on a hot afternoon with the sun overhead. There is a wide range of tones from very bright, in the reflection off the boys cheeks to very dark in the skin of the boys face. Muniz does an excellent job using shadows to provide a feeling of depth and adding curves to the boys body and face. The shape of the boy is positive, but the background is not defined, allowing a negative shape or void in the picture. Although there is no actually texture on the photograph the texture from the original work of art is apparent. The use of sugar gives off a hazy effect preventing the photo from having a clear focus.
Incidences that occur in one's childhood tend to affect them possibly for the rest of the rest of their life. This applies to the novel Fifth Business and the characters Dunstan Ramsey and Boy Staunton. Throughout the lives of these characters Dunstan lives in the shadow of Boy due to feelings of guilt and responsibility as a result of one winter evening in the town of Deptford.
One focal point in Twilight in the Wilderness is the sun. To bring the attention to the sun, Church uses the contrast in the colors in the painting to his advantage. He uses broad contrast as well as a focused contrast that reveals the main focal point. The broad contrast deals with the colors in the sky and the lack of the color of in the lower half of the painting. The brighter colors in the sky in comparison to the dull colors in the lower half of the painting draws attention to the brighter sky. Within the sky itself, Church uses the different colors and different color temperatures to bring the viewer’s eyes to the main focal point. The warm yellow colors being next to the cool and dark teal and red-orange colors emphasizes the brighter, warmer yellow of the sun and brings attention to
In Rauschenberg’s art piece, the visual elements include, it’s a painting, the two thin lines within the fabrics and the whole painting right down the middle, small vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines between the fabrics the colors used just as much as the fabrics. The painting I think is abit light from the yellow, white and red colors that blend with fabrics that are the same color. There’s no design in the piece, it’s a chaotic and random composition work since the artist has all the materials blended together including the wooden frame. The elements like the colors pink, blue, orange and yellow plus the random choice and random visuals also have the viewer’s attention, maybe forcing the viewer to look deeper into the art piece.
There is a lot of repetition of the vertical lines of the forest in the background of the painting, these vertical lines draw the eye up into the clouds and the sky. These repeated vertical lines contrast harshly with a horizontal line that divides the canvas almost exactly in half. The background, upper portion of the canvas, is quite static and flat, whereas the foreground and middle ground of the painting have quite a lot of depth. This static effect is made up for in the immaculate amount of d...
The painting has realistic 3 dimensional space by the use of linear perspective and chiaroscuro. It also looks to be 2 dimensional as well, because it almost looks like some influence on the Japanese print, like flat patches of paint. The lines converge from the edges of the paint to the center letting off the effect of a background and a foreground. It looks as though the trash is in the foreground and the man is in the background. In the back of the painting, it is darker which also adds to the effect of the 3 dimensional space.
I see the three bodies in his painting as people falling from the 110th floor of the South Tower. I see the broken debris and splintered wood as pieces of steel and glass collapsing to the ground, taking firefighters and innocent people with it.
Masks by Emil Nolde is an oil painting which is currently displayed at The Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City Missouri. My first response to the still life painting was that of a very weird and bizarre, yet playful mood. The mischievous looking figures rendered with intense color, gave off a sense of horror without the dim dull color scheme typically portrayed in horror settings. At first glance, one could notice the eerie grin or grimace upon the countenance of each of the five individual figures. I believe Nolde rendered the painting in this manner to capture the viewers attention in a way that would provoke a sense of terror and jab at their emotions.
The colors of this piece take on a darker hue in the crowd, opposed to the boxers in the ring which are more lightly colored in order to become the highlight of the photograph. Shades of red on the boxers faces show the intensity which they both display. Additive colors were used in order make the boxers standout such as white, red, and yellow.
The most emphasized part of this image is the man lying on top of the child and leaning against the bed, part of the body being directly in the center and seems to take up the most space, this is where the eye tends to linger. The negative space is made interesting by including a turned over chair, and rumpled sheets on a bed and other homely objects, which indicates that this is set in a home. The contrast that is shown in this artwork is through the use of value since Daumier used implied light, the brighter and darker areas create a contrast against each other. While this piece is not symmetrically balanced, it is balanced asymmetrically. It is asymmetrically balanced through a man and most of a bed being placed in the center, on the right is a small child, the upper torso of an older looking man, a chair next to him, and the rest of the bed; on the left of the man is most of what seems to be a woman, and other less detailed furniture. There is a sense of repetition through the positive shapes of the people lying on the floor, this is also shown through the use of line that creates the entire lithograph. This provides a sense of cohesiveness and unity throughout the
Even though, the sky and grass are bright, the subjects are all mostly in muted colors. Another muted color shown is the time capsule itself. Although dark colors normally connote sadness that is not really the effect of these colors in the photograph. These colors are similar to the rest of the architecture of the Market Square. Overall, that area has a very dark and industrial aesthetic, yet it is still a very fun and busy place. That is similar to the representation of the club in the picture. Only one member is not wearing orange and that is Kyle. This could suggest that he is not really a part of the group and that no one likes him. Kyle’s placement also sets him apart from the rest of the group. The majority of the group is to the left of the image, yet Kyle is in the middle at the very forefront. Although the image is set up in a way as to show the group and not individuals, Kyle has put himself in a position where he is separate from the group as a whole. Overall, the colors express that the group is together and having fun, except for
The model's faces are normally shot with a 28mm wide-angle lens which are portraits which express funny, real and he manages to get the perspective of the person in a normal formula. Which represents the different characteristics of the person which is usually unknown. These photographs have been enlarged and are then plastered on sides of buildings, bridges, rooftops, and even trains. This caught the public eyes attention where they least expected it.
