Describe the following characters from the story: Ted, Audrey, the Onceler, The Lorax, Mr. O’Hare. Ted plays a major part in this movie. In an attempt to woo his crush, Audrey, he goes on an adventure in order to find the real trees and in the process, not only impresses Audrey, but also obtains a desire to preserve and protect the trees from going extinct. Although he could have given up on trying to get to the Onceler as Mr. O’Hare threatened him, we was very determined to reach his goal right to the end of the movie. At first, as he did not have much confidence that the Thneeds would sell as well as it did in the future, he made a promise with the Lorax that he would never cut down another tree again. However, that promise was broken when the Onceler’s greed got the better of him as he became very prosperous with the Thneed sales. Once the last grown Truffula tree was cut down, only then was his conscious brought back, resulting in him grieving in guilt. The Lorax is the guardian of the trees. Seuss’s opinion on the future of the environment as he seems to believe that if we choose to make more environmentally safe decisions, we can become a more sustainable planet and be able to preserve it for the future generations. I think Dr. Seuss’s quote was meant to be directed towards not just the people who run businesses that cause negative impacts on the environment, but all of us in general. Each time people decide to drive their cars, support a certain business that holds particular values, or even drop a small candy wrapper on the ground, it changes how the state of the environment, whether it be good or bad. It does not matter on how young or old you are, you can have the ability to make a difference to bring positive influences on the environment, just as 14 year old Ted has did in this movie. Using the small candy wrapper for an example, if just one person were to drop it on the ground, it wouldn’t make much of a difference, but the thing is, there are quite a number of people who had done this, because of laziness or by accident. If we become more aware of how we are affecting the environment, and we become determined, everyone can make a difference

Dr. Seuss is an important figure in the lives of children everywhere. His stories are children’s classics that are fun to read and also tackle some real life issues. Dr. Seuss’s political views are very apparent in his some of his books like The Butter Battle Book, which discusses the issues of the Cold War.
In the environment, there are many people who have different views on how we use the ecosystem for our needs. Both the Truax and the Lorax are respectful and conserving of the environment, but in different ways. The Lorax has a more pessimistic view, and the Truax has a more optimistic view on how we are using the environment for our needs. There are different ways they show their different views.
Dr. Seuss, also known as Theodore Seuss, has written many poems as well as short stories, and is considered one of the greatest children’s author in history. His silly stories are able to excite children in ways that make them want read. His Wife says,” Ted doesn’t sit down to write for children. He writes to amuse himself;” Little do children know that often, in his stories, there is a lot of political undertone, a few examples include The Lorax, Yertle the Turtle, The Sneethces, and The Butter Battle Book. If you were to really critique some of his books or poems, you might see that some of his themes wouldn’t seem to pertain to children. But what he’s doing, is hoping that they will understand the main idea of the story enough that it challenges them to stand against the crowd of judgment and evil. Take notice of the issues around them, and make a change. He feels that they deserve to know about the issues, just as much as adults do. He is showing them early on, telling them that they do not need adults to make a difference.

Through over forty-two books Dr. Seuss has been able to encourage children to seek delight in reading and has opened the minds of successive generations. He designed books that inspire children to learn through entertainment, by providing according to Steven Brezzo, Director of the San Diego Museum of Art, "a fantastic refuge of wacky characters, convoluted logic, and silly vocabulary." The main character in the book was Thomas small; he is a young boy about 12 years old. He is shy and timid but is very mature for his age. He sees things for how they should be, and he often gives too much due to his kind-hearted nature. Thomas best friend is Pesty Darrow a girl his age who lives on the property that borders theirs. The Darrows are a feuding family and believe that there is gold buried on the Small’s land. They feel that it should belong to them and pull many risky stunts to try and find it. Mrs. Darrow is Pestys mother and the key to many secrets of the house and the tunnels that were once apart of the Underground Railroad. Due to her mental illness, she cannot speak and remember things clearly. Thomas’s father has known the location of the gold, and being the good man that he is, arranges for the Darrows to find it. He did this so they could live next to each other without feuding.
Seuss wrote stories and books to inspire kids and teach them the love of reading while in the same time entertain them. There are three main characters in the story, Edmund, Lucy, and Eustace. Lucy and Edmund are brother and sister and Eustace is their cousin. Edmund is a young teenager, very smart and very kind. Lucy is in her mid teens as well, she is a very happy person. Lucy is always trying to help people with there problems.The setting is first the early 1900’s in England and then in Narnia the fictional world the story is based on.
One pivotal point regarding the debate on environmental ethics and the course humans should take is regarding future generations. How do the actions we take today impact those who inherit this planet after us? Some people argue that we do not inherit this world from our parents, but rather borrow it from our future children. Regarding the text Sustainability and Responsibility to the Future, several different viewpoints are offered regarding both sides of the ethics of environmentalism.
One of the major points that Kaplan makes and he focuses on heavily in the beginning of the article is how environmental scarcity plays an impact on people’s decisions. There is a finite amount of natural resources in the world for people to use, and we are fast approaching a point where the world can no longer support our growing population. All of this is spurred on by an increase in practices that cause deforestation, soil erosion, pollution and global warming. A great analogy within the article is that we are robbing from tomorrow’s future to support the present, which is shown in that “…man is challenging nature far beyond its limits, and nature is now beginning to take its revenge.” (Kaplan, 1994) The new major threat that every nation and person has to be aware of is how the immediate results of our mismanagement of the environment can have a tremendous backlash, not only within our lives but the lives of future generations. All of these environmental concerns are dots that connect with Kaplan’s other main arguments.
Although more people are aware of the impacts we have on our environment, there are still people that choose to ignore scientific evidence, or do not fully understand the consequences. Further education and research are critical components in an effort to become more sustainable. Fortunately, younger generations are learning about the need to address environmental issues so that changes can be made to ensure our way of life is sustainable.

We need to fix this problem before it becomes uncontrollable to the point of having no resources to meet our needs. By reducing our consumption of resources, we will be able to become closer to fixing the problem of global warming, high gasoline prices and pesticide-filled meats. The outcome of respecting our world and “going green” will better how we live our lives, our communities and the environment.
