The longing for love is real and truly is as much a part of one’s make-up as breathing, for numerous people to be in love surpasses all things; and if they are not in a serious relationship, will spend a considerable amount of time looking for ‘the one.‘ They seem to be always searching, questing for the prize; the prize of finding the one, of going or being ‘home,’ wrapped in a security blanket of emotional harmony. We talk about it, sing about it, and truthfully, most everything revolves around desire; particularly the desire of love. Oddly, the reality of why and how this state of desire comes about still mystifies the majority. I believe the longing to love is a ‘desire’ toward the LORD; which inspires us to come back to Him/her, to connect …show more content…
They allowed lust to control this exquisite gift, turning their attention away from God, and began using His “secret place,” to lavish their own lust driven beings. Therefore, God turned away and gave up His ‘gift of majesty’ to the wicked on earth to pollute. By that, the TRUTH of ‘God’s glorious gift,’ became darkened with lust; degraded and stained within people through the sands of time. Still, for some, this ancient memory haunts the human psyche, beckoning a continued search to find that long ago feeling of divine love. Conceivably that is the reason masses of people search for love so earnestly, is because of that ‘missing link’ within. Trying to find someone to fulfill that longing inside that God designed each of us with; a longing, a ‘desire’ for intimacy. We usually become aware of this longing independently or establish this fellowship with a partner or spouse. In essence, this longing for love within us, is the LORD’S presence waiting to join with us and God has gone to extraordinary lengths to dance the dance of intimacy with …show more content…
That the part of us that is so god-like, our ‘secret place,’ is God’s country created for communion with the LORD within our inner sanctuary. That a ‘spark’ or diamond of the LORD lives within our beings and as a result the rapture one feels from the explosion of energy after a sexual encounter is God Divine in concert. Sex gives people a way to feel and experience God’s presence, to communicate with God’s power, in its purest sense. That out of Creation-God planted in humans a “power” to “desire” His/her presence and by this, the birth of “sex” evolved; fashioning within humanity a “hunger” to experience God’s company and commune with His/her energy and presence. This “desire” established the Divine presence within one’s being, allowing the LORD’S glorious creative force to illuminate and open the portholes of heaven, allowing the Divine manifestation to
Love can sometimes be seen as a counterintuitive and unconventional sense of life. The irony in it all is love could either be as warm as the Sunday morning sun or as cold as a New England winter when touched by the heart or the skin. As we grow up, if we believe we are cherished by the most respectful and admirable person, we give up the most vulnerable parts of ourselves: the body. However, throughout modern society, people tend to use sexual intercourse as a form of personal pleasure and gain without the obligations of emotions. Henceforth, stated in Sharon Olds’ “Sex Without Love”, premarital sex may be against God’s intentions to be pure but at the same time people love the priest more the teachings and are willing to go against the Lord
...nt story if one is not in love but still searching for partners to be. He extends this argument to how sex is a medium to mark the physical closeness of the couple, and “sexual monogamy.” (pg 237)
The Symposium, The Aeneid, and Confessions help demonstrate how the nature of love can be found in several places, whether it is in the mind, the body or the soul. These texts also provide with eye-opening views of love as they adjust our understanding of what love really is. By giving us reformed spectrum of love, one is able to engage in introspective thinking and determine if the things we love are truly worthy of our sentiment.
Revelations of Divine Love is a 14th century masterpiece written by Julian of Norwich. This book is an account of St. Julian’s sixteen different mystical revelations in which she had encountered at a time of great suffering and illness. St. Julian focussed on the many “mysteries of Christianity.” Through her many revelations she encountered God’s vast love, the existence of evil, God’s heart for creation, the father and mother-heart of God, and the need to obey her Father in Heaven. Amongst these revelations the most powerful was the revelation of God’s love and character. Revelations of Divine Love is a wonderful source of revelation to connect a reader to the Father.
he Bible teaches us regarding the incredible mystery of Jesus Christ that arrived on earth to convey immense ‘beloved knowledge’ concerning God and among this conceivably exists our Godly sexual presence within humanity. The following occurs as an “attempt” to describe the greatest happening the world has ever experienced; appropriately, I profess this endeavor has instigated a humbling, for there are no words on earth that could ever come close to the power that Jesus Christ engulfed humanity with. Truthfully, it grieves me to think of how the majority of people, lack the intelligence and clarity (including myself) to accomplish such a feat; for no amount of terminology, vocabulary, or skills expressing His true existence could ever come
“Love interrupts at every hour at the most serious occupations, and sometimes perplexes for a while even the greatest minds.” – Schopenhauer1 All of us that have been in love can identify with this quote, but the real question is how do we find, and choose our lovers? Schopenhauer would argue that making a decision, about an ultimate lover is merely biological. He believes in something he calls the will to life which he defines as “an inherent drive within human beings to stay alive and reproduce.”1 We sometimes even ask ourselves why him, or why her? We have absolutely no conscious say in the partner we pick, and that our animalistic subconscious picks our lovers. Yes, humans do romantic things with their lovers, and for their lovers to strengthen the connection like: picnics, expensive dinners, and rose petals on the floor. But the main decision is ultimately based on biological factors alone. The last thing you’re thinking about when getting someone’s number at a club is having a baby, but subconsciously that’s the truth .1 I will analyze Schopenhauer’s ideas of love, giving modern evidence, as well as stories of personal experience throughout the next few paragraphs. I believe Schopenhauer hit the nail right on the head when it comes to love (besides his idea of polygamy.)
The purpose of this paper is to compare the teaching on marriage from the book of I Corinthians and Ephesians. The Bible tells us, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him" (Gen. 2:18). In the beginning, God saw that it was not good for His creation to be alone; therefore He created a helper suitable for Adam, a wife to be his companion and counterpart. From the book of Proverbs, we are also told that God designed marriage and sex not only as a means for bringing children into this world, but also as God's appointed means for a man to find pleasure in his wife.
Poets and philosophers for centuries have been trying to answer the question, what is love? Love has an infinite number of definitions, which vary from one person to another. Love cannot be measured by any physical means. One may never know what true love is until love it- self has been experienced. What is love? A four letter word that causes a person to behave in a way that is out of character. What is love? A first kiss, childhood crushes on a teacher or friend’s mom. What is love? A choice that people make by putting their partner’s wishes, desires and needs above everything else. What is love? The act of forgiveness, the infatuation with someone, the communication between two people. What is love? A friendship that turned into a lifelong commitment, that special someone who has vowed to spend the rest of their lives to honor and protect, to love each other “till death do you part.” When in love nothing else in the world matters. According to the online Encarta Dictionary love is the passionate feeling of romantic and sexual desire and longing for somebody. Poets and philosophers may never know what love really is, and we may never truly understand the question what is love.
In Milton's Paradise Lost, the two images of sex in Books IV and IX sharply contrast one another in order to show the dichotomy of love and lust. The first act of sex is seen in Book IV and represents holy love. Before going into their bower, Adam and Eve make sure to praise God. This awe for their maker is seen when Adam and Eve "both stood,/Both turned, and under open sky adored/The God that made both sky, air, earth and Heav'n" (IV. 720-2). Even the heavens are in unison with Adam and Eve's love. While Eve decorates their "nuptial bed," there are "heaven'ly choirs" singing the "hymnenean sung" (IV. 709, -10). This love of Adam and Eve's is not "loveless, joyless, unendeared" but instead is "loyal, just, and pure" (IV. 766, 755). After their sacred act of sex, Adam and Eve are enraptured with joy and peace. They are "lulled by nightingales" and fall asleep naked, embracing one another (IV. 771). All is perfect in Paradise, but not for long.
Love is arguably the most powerful emotion possessed by mankind; it is the impalpable bond that allows individuals to connect and understand one another. Pure love is directly related to divinity. Without love, happiness and prosperity become unreachable goals. An individual that possesses all the desired superficial objects in the world stands alone without the presence of love. For centuries love has been marveled by all that dare encounter it. Countless books and poems have been transcribed to explain the phenomenon of love, but love surpasses all intellectual explanations and discussions. Love is not a definition, but rather a thought, an idea. This idea, the idea of love, burns inside us all. Instinctually, every soul on Earth is
Thomas wrote this material in a readable and comprehensible fashion. After reading the entire book, I observed that he definitely achieved an excellent level of scholarly writing while expounding on his interpretation of his beliefs about love. While The Sacred Search particularly focused on love and marriage, Thomas brought out many psychological factors, such as looking beyond emotions, the characteristics of good compatibility, gender roles, and the imbalance of possible unforeseen changes in a relationship, regardless of one’s best efforts. I definitely recommend the book as it influenced my view of marriage, and even of dating. Mr. Thomas’ points contained some places of question, particularly in his partial denial of God’s matching one person with another person. However, with some interpretation and open-mindedness, it shaped my viewpoint of relationships to be less emotional and more
Some people believe that there is no such thing as “true love” they believe that love is nothing but an illusion designed by social expectations. These people believe that love ultimately turns into pain and despair. This idea in some ways is true. Love is not eternal it will come to an end one way or another, but the aspect that separates true love from illusion, is the way love ends. “True Love” is much too powerful to be destroyed by Human imperfection; it may only be destroyed by a force equal to the power of love. Diotima believed that “Love is wanting to posses the good forever” In other words love is the desire to be immortal and the only way that we are able to obtain immortality is through reproduction, and since the act of reproduction is a form of sexual love, then sexual love is in fact a vital part of “True love”. Sexual love is not eternal. This lust for pleasure will soon fade, but the part of love that is immortal, is a plutonic love. You can relate this theory to the birth of love that Diotima talks about. She says that love was born by a mortal mother and immortal father. The mother represents the sexual love, the lust for pleasure. The father represents the plutonic love that is immortal. Plutonic love is defined as a true friendship, the purest of all relationships. A true plutonic love will never die; it transcends time, space, and even death.
What exactly is love? Is there an absolute meaning to the word - love? Or is it purely subjective? The concept of true love is what we search for all our lives. Yet love is one of the most misunderstood concepts of all. What people really want more than anything else is to be loved unconditionally; to be accepted for who we are, and still be loved. Sometimes we will do some crazy things, "in the name of love."
“Love is universally accepted by many people and the concept of love within the English language refers to a variety of different approaches, states and attitudes, ranging from pleasure to interpersonal attraction.” (Kendrick 123) My characterization of love encourages the intimate emotion I partake for my family. The distinct connection that we fashioned and the invaluable moments that we consolidated. In the perceptive of a mother, my children are my supremacy and the greatest blessing of my lifecycle. They’re my inspiration and motivation to continue progressing and becoming the best at what I do. With that in mind, Love relics your outlooks and approaches the linkage they become associated with. Consequently, this condition can fluctuate over a period of a specific time. Additionally, depending on your situation, your perspective on love can be an altering affect, creating a stable or inconsistent assessment. Furthermore, causing your love to intensify, decline, or even cease. Love in its essence, stands justly powerful and the beauty of it advances,
Life is lost without love, but what is love without desire? Could it be that love is an arguable thought, something that is not as strong as what we perceive it to be? Could love be merely an instrument used by society to justify their foolishness? Is it true that this idea we call love, is nothing but a fabrication of the mind fueled by the intense desire to posses?
