Whitney Elizabeth Houston, formerly known as Whitney Huston, was a famous celebrity. This legend’s life was taken from substance use and heart failure. The influential international musical icon and Grammy winner’s stage presence did not reveal a woman with an addiction. My first perception of Whitney believes that she had a hidden wild side that was concealed, and in bondage until she met Bobby Brown to later discover this was her own demon she was battling and Bobby was not the cause. It was not until I watched a chronicle of Whitney Houston (2015) movie with her husband Bobby Brown to understand that she exposed, introduced and influenced Bobby Brown to drugs at that point. I began to realize the fame and turbulence of this celebrity’s life. This legend’s long time use of cocaine caused heart problems. Since cocaine is a stimulant to elevate mood, boost feelings of well-being and a euphoria to increase energy by reducing fatigue, while increasing the amount of dopamine in the brain for alertness and sociability during spotlight moments appearing to work as an upper for the celebrity. I then began to believe Whitney Huston snorted cocaine, trying to chase the same effect from her first drug experience or high for satisfaction which caused excessive substance abuse. Therefore, the negative side effect eventually destroyed and damaged her mind, body, and soul including vocals. I never knew that Whitney Houston used substance before meeting Bobby until this movie was released to the viewers. It was alarming, but did not change my perspective of her as an icon. To hear a lady of such grace and elegance death was related to an overdose is disheartening. Through it all, the use of a hard drug like cocaine caused heart issues for Whitney Houston. The cause of death was cocaine and a heart attack at the age of 49. The impact she left was the sustaining dignity and great music. God’s grace and mercy kept her through the most difficult times of her life and accepting her truth helped Whitney to resort to spirituality during substance use, and to discover her greatest purpose on earth by touching lives through music. This celebrity also is an example or lesson to understand that drug use may be hereditary. Since our children are a product of us, and history does repeat itself, her life was taken and now her daughter as well. Now she’s finally free and her daughter is with her mother.
