“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” The story chosen for this was “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”. This story is very interesting. The story genre is a Speculative Fiction. The story is written by Washington Irving. The story helped take Irving to fame. He wrote this book because as a kid, he heard stories about the subject too. He also says that he heard an old Dutch Legend which influenced him to write the story. The story is very good for giving the feeling of curiosity and other emotions. The overall story is very interesting and fun to read. The events and dialogue contribute to the development of the story. The first obvious problem is that Ichabod has wishes to marry Katrina who is known for her beauty and wealth. The problem with this is that Brom likes the same girl as him, which sparks conflict. The second conflict in the story is the supernatural occurrences that claim to happen in the town, which is later on in the story used against Ichabod. The story starts to rise when Ichabod meets Katrina. Ichabod starts to realize the riches and the things he would be able to get from her and he then wants to marry her. Although he wants to marry her, someone else does too, Brom. When Brom finds out, there is a rivalry between the two and Brom now wants Ichabod gone. So now with Ichabod liking the same girl as Brom, he looks to take advantage of Ichabod's fear of the supernatural events that he has heard occurred in the town. He pulls many pranks but not much damage is done. Ichabod then gets a proposal to go to a party. He goes to the party and then stays after but he leaves soon after for the reason that Katrina somehow had upset him. While heading back, it is very dark, in the darkness Ichabod sees something that seems to be the Headless Horseman. He went to the bridge, which was the last time he was known to be there. No one has seen Ichabod, but it was heard he was alive, spreading his story to others. Brom then gets to marry Katrina, people say he pulled off a good
