The books “A Thousand Splendid Suns” and “The Kite Runner” are both written by Khaled Hosseini. The setting of both of the book is in the capital of Afghanistan, which is Kabul. Both books express the themes of betrayal, discrimination, and also redemption; but both novels depict the themes and characters in different ways. Even though the main characters are very much alike. Both discuss the theme of betrayal. In the book “The Kite Runner” Amir deal with betrayal head on at an early age of 12 when he has to choose on whether or not to step into the alley way and face Assef to save his servant and best friend Hassan. Earlier in the novel Baba says to Amir "Good," Baba said, but his eyes wondered. "Now, no matter what the mullah teaches, there is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft. Do you understand that?" (17) what he means by this is that no matter what sin you commit it is always a variation of stealing, Baba then gave the example you can kill a married man and steal his wife’s right to a husband and, his children of a father, and there are many other things that can be stolen from someone that can change their life in such away that it could be a sin to do so. In "A Thousand Splendid Suns" Jalil betrays Mariam multiple times in a short period. Mariam is firstly betrayed by Jalil when she is supposed to go to the movies with Jalil but he never shows up. She then decides to walk all the way to Jalil’s house and when she gets there she is told by a doorman that he was not there, she stayed outside the gates all night long on the grass, at one point she ran in when the gates opened and
