He betrayed Jesus Christ for thirty pieces of silver and give it to the chief priests. Because of this action, Jesus Christ suffered a cruel death to redeem us all. In the book The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the main character Amir, betrays everyone around him, including his friend Hassan, his father Baba, his wife Soraya, even himself. Hassan was a simple boy who truly believed Amir was his real friend lamentably Amir betrayed Hassan in many ways. Amir despised the fact that his father Baba treated Hassan with affection and never forgot about his birthday. Amir always tried to show Hassan that he was superior and liked to humiliate him for his ignorance. Also he read stories, poems and riddles to Hassan with the only purpose of making fun of him. Amir enjoyed to read to Hassan stories that had difficult words or that Hassan did not know because he wanted to look superior. Amir changed the meaning of the words taking advantage of Hassan’s lack of knowledge to please himself. It was calculated, cruel and worst of all, it was a betrayal of trust in which Hassan placed in Amir. Although it seemed that Amir could have done far worse than tell a lie about same words, it was incorrect. After amir finished humiliating Hassan, he gave him a broken toy or an old shirt therefore he would not felt bad about it later. This was like trying to compensate him for what he has done. However, the fake generosity was far from the reality because even though Amir showed some affection, he was not a true friend. Hassan would have done absolutely anything for Amir, but Amir only took advantage of that. Sometimes, Amir felt affection for Hassan and played together, but when they were others, Amir used to forget that ignoring and treating Hassan as his servant. Also, Amir never intervened when Hassan was being bullied by other Pashtun boys because of his Hazara roots. Amir was jealous of the way Hassan was so loyal, brave and secured of himself. In addition, he felt envy of Hassan’s naturel athleticism because even though Amir was older than Hassan, he was slower and weaker. This growing negative feeling led Amir to an inexplicable act of betrayed so cruel, it troubled him for the rest of his life. one the day of the kite tournament, Amir saw the opportunity of making Babas proud winning his approval. In order to accomplish that, he had to win. Besides he needed the blue kite to make his father even more proud. Hassan like as good friend ran to get the kite for Amir as the most loyal squire will do, but he ended up in an alley blocked by Assef who was a bully Pashtun wealthy young man and his friends. Regrettably, they forced Hassan to the ground, torn his pants and held him down while Assef raped him. Amir was running behind Hassan, but stood and witnessed this painful this painful scene without intervening for his friend. “[Amir] had one last chance to make a decision. One final opportunity to decide who [he] was going to be. [he] could step into the alley, stand up for Hassan-the way he’d stood for [him] all those times in the past-and accept whatever would happen to [him]. Or [he] could run. In the end, [he] ran” (77). Unfortunately, Amir was a coward and committed the worst betrayal imaginable towards his friend Hassan leaving him stranded and hurt. As any son, Amir loved his father Baba, but the love was not sufficient to still make his father a victim of his betrayals lying to him in many times. Like Amir and Hassan their fathers grew up together, and they were true friends. Amir once asked his father why not to get new servants in order to get rid of Hassan and Ali because he could not more with the guilt of his disloyalty to Hassan. This question really betrayed Baba’s affection and conscience. However, Amir thought that his father could act so lowly in order to destroy his relationship with his old time brother Ali and Hassan. Nevertheless, Baba answered: “I grew up with Ali, my father took him in and loved Ali like his own son” (89). Baba told his son so angry that Ali and Hassan will never go away, and he clarified to Amir to never make any comment about that again. On the other hand, Amir’s father considered Ali and Hassan part of his family also made clear his intentions of never let them leave. Amir could not understand why his father would disagree with his wish because Baba always gave him everything. Thus, he took a different method to obtain his goal. After his birthday, Amir betrayed Hassan once again when he lifted Hassan’s mattress and planted a handful of bills under it and his new watch. Amir did this to make it look as though Hassan took them, so that way Baba would throw them out of the home. Amir forced his father to confront Hassan and Ali to get answers about what happened, destroying a forty-year relationship between Baba and Hassan’s father Ali. Nonetheless, Amir witnessed his father crying and begging to Ali and Hassan not leave. “Amir understood the depth of pain [he] had caused, the blackness of the grief [he] had brought onto everyone” (105). In a spite of this, Amir remained silent and never told the true to his father because he was a perfect quitter and a big liar. He did not care to betrayal his own father in shameful and painful way, so Amir only thought on himself and never on the people who could hurt. Lamentably, Amir kept betraying people around him when he was growing up. Even though he fell in love, his acts of betrayal shadowed him into his marriage. Amir left his hometown with his father, Baba due to war conflicts. In America, Amir met the love of his life, she was a pretty girl named Soraya Taheri. Since he first met her, he felt attached to her in especial and unique way so Amir could not keep himself away. Soraya had a bad reputation and a dark past, but Amir did not care that because he just saw her with love eyes and like a princess who he wanted as his wife. Also, Soraya felt the same feelings for Amir and she loved the idea of being his wife. However, she was honest with him before getting married and she told him all about her past. Soraya did not want to start a relationship based on secrets and lies. She was sincere, and Amir accepted her with all her strengths and weakness. Sadly, Amir started to betray her since the first day Soraya opened her hearth to him because he could not do the same. “[Amir] envied her. Her secret was out. Spoken. Dealt with” (165). He did not stop being a coward and could not confessed all the wrong things that he made in his past to persons who loved him unconditionally. Amir was not true and made Soraya believe that he was sincere with her. His lack of courage interfered in telling to his wife how he destroyed a forty- year relation between his father Baba and Ali. Amir was a hypocrite who tied to portray to her a perfect man while he was full on envy, fear and lies. “he suspected there were many ways in which Soraya Taheri was a better person than [him]. Courage was just one of them” (165). In short, Amir could not trust in Soraya with his mistakes, while she told him hers, was a betrayal to her trust and their marriage. Traitors are always victims of their own betrayals and Amir was not an exception.
He did not only betray his loved ones, but also himself. Even though Amir felt guilty betraying his friends, he did not have the willpower of coming up front and tell his deepest secrets in order to lessen his guilt. He had to suffer the burden of every lie he said to his loved ones. However, Amir wanted to be a different person, a brave one, somebody strong and rightful, but he kept being haunted by his cowardly attitude. After he watched Hassan get raped and did or sad nothing, he spent many nights without sleeping well. He acknowledged to the sleeping bodies around him his offense committed to Hassan. “[ Amir] wished someone could hear him saying [he] watched Hassan get raped because he just wanted to end up living with that lie any longer” (86). In addition, he remembered Hassan’s dream about swimming in the lake. “there is no monster, [ Hassan] said, just water. Expect [Hassan] had been wrong about that. There was a monster in the lake. It had grabbed Hassan by the ankles, dragged him to the murky bottom. [Amir] was that monster” (86). Amir continued betraying himself over and over again because he made his own life a terrible endless spiral lies. When Amir arrived America, he thought about an opportunity to forget everything from his dark past including his
betrayals. In the novel, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini, the main character Amir learns the hard way the consequences and the true meaning of being a traitor. With many acts he performed during his life, Amir displays his real nature and purpose by continuously being an egoistic quitter who not only betrays his loved ones, but himself.
Clearly, Amir hears how his father compares the two, and unlike Hassan who manages to meet Baba’s expectations, Amir grows bitter towards Hassan. He is unable to fight off his envy which later causes him to sacrifice his best friend’s innocence: “Maybe Hassan was the price I had to pay, the lamb I had to slay, to win Baba” (82), and this is all because he realizes “his shame is complicated by his own realization that in part he doesn’t help his friend precisely because he is jealous of him” (Corbett, 2006). From here, Amir develops strong feelings of guilt that induces him to perform even more destructive acts, such as having Hassan and his father evicted from the house. Amir not only loses a close friend, but now he has to continue to live with remorse as he dwells on these memories.
Redemption is defined as the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil. Throughout life, individuals are faced with numerous incidences of redemption that can be taken up or ignored. Those who choose to take the opportunity are often able to grow mentally and accelerate much further than those who do not. However, what must be taken into account is that true redemption is for oneself rather than for others. For example, redemption by finally getting a well-deserved promotion which impresses others is not truly beneficial redemption. What must occur is happiness for the promotion within. In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the employment of redemption as a central idea prevails throughout the novel, specifically in the life

People can be betrayed in a variety of ways for different reasons, by anyone in their lives. A close family member or a best friend could betray one. They may go behind one’s back in order for more personal gain, but sometimes they commit betrayal in the interest of one’s benefit. A not so close friend could betray one’s trust by telling a secret or situation that was told or seen in confidence that was broken for a juicy story or just slipped unnoticed. Some people betray their friends or enemies in order to make them look bad; such as spreading a rumor about said person.
The Kite Runner, written by Khaled Hosseini, shows how lying and deceit is a counterproductive route when trying to live with a dreadful past, exhibited through the actions of Amir. Amir’s decision to withhold the truth and blatantly lie in several situations due to jealousy and his desire for Baba to be proud of him amounts to further pain and misery for himself and those he deceives. Because of Amir’s deceit towards Baba and Hassan, his guilt from his past manifests itself into deeply-rooted torment, not allowing him to live his life in peace. The guilt from Amir’s past is only alleviated when he redeems his sins by taking in Sohrab, contributing to the theme that the only way “to be good again” is through redemption, not shunning the past.
A betrayal by someone who you trust emotionally impacts you in a variety of ways. Sinclair Ross’ short story The Painted Door prominently shows the reasons of why a person would choose to betray their partner. The story is set in an isolated farmhouse in the prairies where a married couple, named Ann and John lives. After John’s trip to his father’s house he arrives back home and sees that Ann has been unfaithful. Although people know the effects of betrayal they still carry out this act. The main reason that people betray loved ones is due to the fact humans yearn for companionship, crave the thrill of new experiences and desire change to keep them fulfilled.
Upon seeing a Polaroid of Hassan and his son, the first time Amir has seen Hassan in decades; he cannot help but notice “[Hassan] exuded a sense of self-assuredness, of ease… Looking at the photo, one might have concluded that this was a man who thought the world had been good to him” (Hosseini, 227). Despite all the hardships that Hassan had faced as a young boy, he was happy as a man. In addition to living a joyous life, Hassan was also optimistic. Along with the photo came a letter from Hassan addressed to Amir, where Hassan describes his life and how he wishes Amir was with him, and is “’hopeful that one day [he] will hold one of [Amir’s] letters’” (Hosseini, 227). About halfway through his letter Hassan says, “I thank Allah every day that I am alive… because my wife has a husband and my son is not an orphan” (Hosseini, 228). Hassan looks forward to each and every day just to see his wife, his son, and one day, a letter from Amir. That is all Hassan needed in life. Unlike Amir, whose actions had dire consequences to his health and the people around him, Hassan lived a happy, lighthearted life for the most

Many authors, psychologists, and philosophers alike have tried to answer that very question with no success. Certain types of betrayal can be beneficial, but more often than not betrayal causes an unfortunate series of events to follow it. One of the greatest examples of this comes from Greek Mythology and the story of Jason and Medea. Jason and Medea lived together as a married couple and had children together, Jason then betrayed Medea by throwing her aside and claiming they were never married. As revenge Medea then killed their children and fled. There are several different types of betrayal. There is betrayal of/by society or the exectutives of the country, betrayal of/by those close to you, and betrayal of/by yourself.
The worst part about betrayal is that most people never even find out that they have been betrayed. A man could go on vacation, cheat on his wife, return home, and she would never find out.
