The Job of the Marketing and Sales Department
Marketing is concerned with getting the right product to the right
people at the right price. Its function is essential for the success
of any business. Most of the time products that are flops are due to
poor marketing. A firm has to get the 4P's right to make it easy to
sell its product. Businesses find out the views and opinions of
consumers either by primary research which means going out on the
field your self directly to communicate to the consumers. E.g. in the
street, over the phone, interviews and questionnaires. The advantage
to primary research is that it provides data that's up to date,
relevant and specific to your products. However it's expensive to
collect, it's time consuming and need's a large sample size to be
accurate.
Or by secondary research which involves you using an existing
published material like statistics and reference books, to gather
information. Secondary research is useful for looking at the whole
market and analysing past trends to predict the future. E.g. Market
research reports Mintel government publications like family
expenditure survey, newspaper and Magazine articles. Advantage-it's
easily found and instantly available. However it is not always
relevant to your needs, it's not specifically about your products and
it's often out of data.
Or loyalty cards which record everything a consumer buys and also
gives out rewards to the consumers depending on how much they spend. A
business identifies different groups of consumers using market
segments. E.g. Age, Gender, Income, wealth, geographical area and
lifestyle. They do this because it helps to direct their marketing
effort towards the right people. They can even classify consumers from
target groups which consist of a range of ages.
A business can get some sort of idea of the consumers' choices and
lifestyle from the type of area they live in. Each area would have
different type of consumers living in them. Businesses mainly use
postcodes. Some target groups are wealthier than others and some areas
...ons to attract people that are unaware of the product. They can also opt to do what they have always done, because the product is successful. To take the do-nothing approach is dreadful, because the competition is out there lurking, just waiting for CNS to rest on their laurels.
This is directly towards the companies marketing department, they are simply not thinking logically. This is definitely something the company can control and fix to improve the sales.

As we all know, marketing is a necessary part of our daily life. Not only are products and services marketed, but we market ourselves as part of everyday business. I spent time this week speaking with a close friend of mind who is a Store Manager for H&R Block discussing the 4-Ps and how they pertain to his organization. It was very interesting to see how different industries market their products and services. Does the thought of receiving your tax return immediately grasp your attention? Well it has definitely helped H&R Block in boosting their ability to attract customers. It seems as thought immediate gratification is a promotion marketing tool that many companies are now using. After briefly describing the 4 P's of marketing we will review how H&R Block utilizes all of the steps in their marketing mix.

When it comes to marketing in business, there are rules to follow. One of the biggest rules is the four Ps of marketing. The four Ps of marketing are as follows; product, price, place, and promotion. The four Ps are crucial to having a good marketing scheme for a product. The Walt Disney Company have become very good at marketing over the years. Part of the reason for this is their amazing ability to use the four Ps.
When creating a marketing mix for a product, the company needs to look at the 4Ps: product, place, price and promotion (Eugene McCarthy, 1960). “When considering the 4 P’s of the GoPro, it is clear that the company’s success has been due in large to such great marketing.” (Suki Chan, 2013)[1].
Though the 4Ps approach has been working for companies for years, it became less effective as the market has developed. This happened due to the fact that product, price, place, and promotion do not include all the activities that are related to marketing a product. As a result, a more efficient approach was developed - the value approach.
MARKETING DEPARTMENT The aim of this department is to make sure that the business produces goods that consumers would want to buy and sell. This is because they can find out what kind of products or services the consumer's wants.
