After rolling up his sleeve and passing in front of the table, Eliezer becomes “A-7713” as he continues to experience the inhuman treatment in a concentration camp (Wiesel 42). Night by Elie Wiesel is Wiesel’s own memoir that tells the story of how he, a young Jewish boy taken into concentration camps during WWII, survives one of the most horrific events in the history of mankind. Eliezer lives in Sighet, Transylvania where he is curious about his religion. His teacher, Moshe the Beetle, help him learn Judaism. This came to an end when the Germans moved the Jews to the horrible ghettos. From the ghettos Eliezer’s family got split at the concentration camps. Eliezer and his dad were together and his mom and sisters were together. Adolf Hitler
Hitler moved the Jews into ghettos from their homes. In the ghettos the Germans have many restriction on the Jews. The Jews are not allowed to go to shops & business and they are not allowed to go to the synagogue. The Jews arrived at Auschwitz empty handed because the Germans take all of their valuables like gold, silver, and jewelry. . Eliezer soon realizes he has nothing: “The beloved objects that we carried with us from place to place were now left behind in the wagon and with them, finally, our illusions.” (Wisel29). The Jews lost something more important than their personal objects. They lost their family. Many Family is split when they arrived in the camp. Eliezer got spilt from his mom and sister but he is with his father. In the camp Eliezer sacrifice a lot of his objects to keep his father alive. Eventually he lost his father due to illness and
Before the camp the Germans force the Jews to wear the yellow star and they gave them “new names.” The yellow star and their number helped the Germans classify each individual Jew. All of the Jews religious books and lampstand were taken away. The Jews lost both their names and their religion. After getting their family getting split, Eliezer main goal was to survive “Do you hear? Eighteen and forty.” (Wisel 30). When Eliezer and his dad arrived to the camp, they were told by a fellow prisoner to lie about their age. The reason for this action is to work instead getting killed instantly in the ferns. The Jews from 18-40 are not consider old or young they are the right age to work. When they arrived at the camp they came. In the camp all the Jews are basically identical to each other.
