Othello was seen as a very well respected military leader but despite all that his race was the one big thing that affected him the most. With being seen as an outsider, many people including Iago, were out to destroy him. Othello was a very confident in himself at the beginning of the story and knew where he stood, but because of his love for Desdemona, Iago knew that was the biggest weak spot of his. Othello was so in love with Desdemona that he was so sure she’d never cheat on him. Iago had many devious plans to get Othello into thinking that Desdemona and Cassio had a little thing going on. Iago was successful enough to the point where Othello would second guess the love Desdemona had for him. Due to Iago being successful Othello becomes a jealous barbarian that just ends up planning to murder Cassio and Desdemona.
The minority group of hispanics is no different than Othello in the sense that we are pretty confident in who we are but at the same time because of our racial background many like to think of us as grass cutters and uneducated with no potential. In today’s society kids go into school thinking they will graduate from high school because they have what it takes to get the education they deserve. Little do they know that these teachers who teach

In movies a hispanic man will most likely play the role of a gangster who deals with the drugs and the weapons; meanwhile, the woman plays the prostitute that that gives her body away to the random men. The thing is that if hispanics are being portrayed like that in movie after movie than obviously it will fuel “the gangster stereotype aimed at Latinos [that is] particularly harmful, as it gives the public the idea that Hispanics aren’t law-abiding citizens”. The thing is that some hispanics may be drug dealers or users but they are not the only race that deals with drugs, there are blacks and whites as
It is true that “The George Lopez Show” does not stoop to the usual levels of stereotyping Hispanics as lazy or gang members (Morales, 2002). For the most part the show does a good job in portraying Hispanics in a non stereotypical way, however, the way that certain characters on the show talk, such as the mother and the brother, are very much the stereotypical Mexican dialect. Also, Lopez’s children are extremely lazy, which is stereotypical of the Hispanic culture, although its also very abundant in teenage culture too (Morales, 2002).
In William Shaspeare play Othello, Iago make Othello believe that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio. He does by taking advantage of any situation to make of Othello doubt. Iago make Othello thing a lot of crazy thing on his head, Othello got so jelous leading him to kill his own wife, Desdemona, satisfying iago obseccion for revenge.
Iago’s persistence and villainous intentions made Othello become jealous of Cassio and break down his emotions towards Desdemona and want to kill her with fierce rage. Othello would not do such a crime if he knew it was a lie because Othello loves Desdemona and would die for her. Othello was madly in love with Desdemona and they were compassionate for each other, but he was misguided and confused with jealousy and hatred which steered him off course to his sinister fate. Othello cannot be justified as a bad person because of one incident, especially after all the great things he’s done and achieved for the city. Iago is the real antagonist and has become the bad man of the play as his roles are to protect the crown in which was Othello and stay loyal to fellow soldiers but throughout the play he was the complete opposite with characteristics such as being a liar, un loyal to every character in the play.
As early as the first scene of the play Iago shows us strong motives for his actions. In this first scene we see Othello, a general of Venice, has made Cassio his new lieutant. Iago feels he truly deserves his promotion as he says "I know my price, I am worth more no worse a place."(l.i.12) Iago over here is confused why Othello has made such a stupid decision. Iago is a man with a tremendous ego who knows, sometimes overestimates, his worth. Roderigo, a Venetian gentleman, understands Iago when Iago said that he is "affined to love the Moor."(l.i.41-42) What Iago really means is "I follow him to serve my term upon him."(l.i.45) Iago wants to use Othello for his personal goals. We also must put ourselves into Iago's shoes. He is a man whose self-esteem and professional carrier have just been torn apart. Iago makes his actions of revenge toward Othello almost immediately by informing Brabantio, a Venetian senator and father of Desdemona, that "an old black ram (Othello) is tupping (his) white ewe (Desdemona)."(l.i.97)
“While Latino Male behavior is indeed all too often sexist and violent, Latino Males in this country are in fact no worse in that regard than their Anglo counterparts" (page 42). I very strongly agree that no race is different from one another when it comes to the debate about life. Everyone has the power to make bad decisions, which eventually result in a negative impact on that person and also the people around them, however, everyone also has the power to make good decisions and benefit in a positive manner the people around them. At the end of the day, it comes down to the environment in which they were raised and if they have the will to go against peer pressure and defy it. Sadly, not everyone in this world is capable of defying peer pressure, which is where these horrible stereotypes develop.
Othello angers Iago over the position he gave to Cassio and it's because of this Iago calls for revenge by making Othello kill his wife. In Act 1, Scene 1, Iago and Rodrigo are talking among one another in regards to Othello not choosing Iago as his lieutenant and how Rodrigo yearns for Desdemona. Iago formulates a plan to get back at Othello and also to help Rodrigo achieve his aspiration for Desdemona. Angry, Iago reveals his hatred upon Othello by waking Desdemona's father, Brabantio, and informing him about his daughter not being in her quarters and is out marrying the Moor, Othello. In Act 2, Scene 1, Iago suspects Othello having an affair with Iago's wife. Already we can see this villain spawning but does not show his hate to Othello. Furthermore, Iago manipulates Othello to believe that Desdemona is cheating while the all along she is being truthful about her innocence. Iago does this to try to gain Othello's trus...
Texts and their appropriations reflect the context and values of their times. Within Shakespeare’s Othello and Geoffrey Sax’s appropriation of Othello, the evolution of the attitudes held by Elizabethan audiences and those held by contemporary audiences can be seen through the context of the female coupled with the context of racism. The role of the female has developed from being submissive and “obedient” in the Elizabethan era to being independent and liberated within the contemporary setting. The racism of the first text is overtly xenophobic and natural, whilst the “moor” is unnatural whereas the updated context portrays Othello’s race as natural and racism as unnatural. Therefore these examples show how Shakespeare’s Othello, and it’s appropriation, Geoffrey sax’s Othello, reflect the context and values of their times.
Iago is one of the most complex characters in William Shakespeare’s Othello. To most of the characters, he is “Honest Iago” (Shakespeare, 5.2.73). however, the audience knows that Iago is the furthest thing from honest. Iago is a devil bent on destroying the lives of everyone around him. At the beginning of the play, the audience learns that Iago is determined to ruin Othello’s marriage to Desdemona. He has appointed a new lieutenant, Michael Cassio. This angers Iago because he feels that he has much more military experience and should be the lieutenant. Iago has also heard rumours that both Othello and Cassio have slept with his wife Emilia. He concocts a malicious plan to ruin the lives of all who have wronged him, and consequently establishing
Iago's reputation played a key role in the play. Everyone thought of Iago as an honest man. "O, that's an honest fellow", "You advise me well... goodnight honest Iago." Iago convinces everyone that he is noble and honest man and he uses this to his advantage. "When devils will the blackest sins put on, they do suggest at first with heavenly shows." Without this cover he would never have been able to get Othello to believe that Desdemona would cheat on him. Just for suggesting that Desdemona would cheat on him (Othello), he probably would have killed Iago were it not for his reputation. Nobody suspects that Iago is a deceitful man and would plot to destroy Othello, Desdemona, and Cassio in such a cunning way. Iago uses his reputation to manipulate Othello and set his plan in motion and complete it. Without Iago's honest reputation would never had allowed him smear Cassio and cause the death of Desdemona and ultimately Othello as well.
Shakespeare develops the character Iago into an instigator and evil man. Iago attempts and succeeds to convince Othello that his wife has had an affair with his friend Cassio. We see Iago beginning his plans at the very start of the play. “But I will wear my heart upon my sleeve for daws to peck at, I am not what I am.”(Oth 1:1:64-65) He immediately tries to start trouble with Brabantio and Othello over the marriage to Desdemona. Iago want to get in Othello’s way because he was passed over for general and Cassio was chosen instead. We see from the start how he plots against Othello and he involves several characters in his plans. “And what’s he then that says I play the villain? When this advice is free. I give and honest, probal to thinking, and indeed the course to win the Moor again? For tis easy Th’ inclining Desdemona to subdue in any honest suit; she’s framed as fruitful…”(2:3:295-300).
Iago is a very strategic and clever person, and he despises Othello because Othello appointed Cassio as a lieutenant over Iago. He plans to ruin Othello’s life by ruining his relationship with Desdemona. He starts off by telling Desdemona’s father, Brabantio, of Othello and Desdemona’s secret marriage. Iago goes to
Iago plans to destroy Othello and Desdemona’s marriage by using Desdemona’s kindness toward Cassio against her and make her look unfaithful in front of her noble husband.... ... middle of paper ... ... Othello is not only a tragedy, but also an important reminder of how people are easily deceived to gain power and recognition.
Othello being very easily manipulated led him to make choices that would later on kill his wife and even kill himself. Othello having poor judgment lead him to trust the wrong people and this tied to him making the wrong decisions. His jealousy and obsession with Desdemona was what lead him to kill her. If Othello did not possess these traits the drama would have ended completely different. Othello let himself believe everything Iago told him, if he chose to trust his wife the whole conflict would have been averted. His obsession with his wife was so strong that he could not help think about what she did with Cassio and the only way out was to kill her.
Othello opens with the villain Iago declaring his hatred for the protagonist Othello, who has appointed Michael Cassio as lieutenant instead of Iago. Taking action, Iago conducts a plot against Othello under the pretext of gaining the lieutenancy. However, his motivation becomes unclear when he continues his plot even after successfully obtaining the position. He attempts to murder Cassio, and causes the death of Othello, Othello’s wife Desdemona, his own wife Emilia, and Roderigo, a suitor of Desdemona. Iago provides justifications for some of the deaths, but they appear unconvincing, especially when taking into consideration his deceptive nature. Shakespeare never reveals Iago’s true motives for the tragic murders. Nonetheless, considering
Othello is seen as an outstanding officer in combat of war. With his profound skills, sense of judgment, and demeanor ha was able to climb the ladder of success to achieve the title of general. Though he may be seen as this accomplished leader, Iago’s cunning plan gets the best of Othello when he is fooled countless times by “honest” Iago. After the incidents with Cassio losing his lieutenancy, Iago began to the put the pieces together by making Othello question the relationship between Cassio and Desdemona. Iago creates doubt in Othello by asking the though-provoking question, “Did Michael Cassio, when (you) wooed my lady, know of your love?”(123) Iago wants Othello to question the motives Cassio and his involvement with Desdemona by making it seem as Cassio has planned to take Desdemona away even when her and Othello were together. As they speak Iago continues to reinforce the idea of Desdemona’s chances of cheating on Othello with Cassio. To convince Othello of the high likelihood of Desdemona cheating, Iago makes the claim, “She did deceive her father, marrying you”. (131) Iago takes a direct shot at how Desdemona would deceive her own father to be with Othello so why would she deceive Othello. Though it is obvious that relationships between father/daughter and husband/wife are complete opposite it is able to peak curiosity in Othello. Iago is careful speaking to Othello but is able to get his lies to make Othello question his own judgment. Iago uses repetition to make sure Othello remembers what he said in, “I hope you will consider what is spoke… But I do see you’re moved.” (133) Iago wants Othello to realize his jealousy so that he can use it against him later with the pieces begin to fall into
