“Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder” This saying first appeared in the 3rd century BC in Greek. It didn't appear in its current form in print until the 19th century, but in the meantime there were various written forms that expressed much the same thought. This famous saying implies that everyone has their own definition and recognition of beauty. What is seen as a marvel to one person might be the complete opposite to another, just like a dress that I found very beautiful but my Mum found it not at all nice which explains the saying “One man’s garbage is another man’s treasurer” (Aighearach).Beauty… some people believe that beauty is all physical, having great looks, having all the guys and girls fawning all over you because you are the hottest bloke or chick in the school or wherever you are. Some people believe that beauty is the clothes you wear, the make-up you put on. I say those things are just physical beauty. Inner beauty is of the heart, it’s the person you are, you actions and reactions to other people, your way of life. Inner beauty is the beauty of the heart, being selfless, reliable, loving and caring and always willing to help even if you don’t know the person. Real beauty is about always being willing to assist anyone even if there is nothing in it for you except the pure pleasure of seeing satisfaction, content on the other person’s face, that person has inner beauty. It represents goodwill and kindness. Reading novels is a pastime for me, and I get so much information from it. My favorites are romance novels. One of these novels, Simply Love by Mary Balogh, shows a meeting between two lonely, wounded souls. Anne is a single mother in strict Regency England and Sydnam severely maimed as a result of torture whe... ... middle of paper ... ...he acted all lovey-dovey and at the end, her husband confessed and begged for her forgiveness out of guilt and their marriage was good. On the other hand, a lady my mum knows was put in the same position of her husband cheating. In her case, her husband comes home late and she heard rumors too. She saw her husband with his secretary and assumed them of having an affair which turned out wrong. At the end, their marriage got destroyed because unlike the other lady, she didn’t ask questions and she wasn’t patient. The way first lady projected her inner beauty was by being patient and waiting for the husband confess instead of coming out right and accusing him. Always remember, physical beauty doesn’t last forever but inner beauty does and it’ll make you the happiest person on the face of the earth and it might even spread to the little part of the world you can touch.
The saying “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” is one that has been around for centuries. In fact, “This saying first appeared in the 3rd century BC in Greek. It didn't appear in its current form in print until the 19th century, but in the meantime there were various written forms that expressed much the same thought,” (Martin, 1963-2013). This quote is the perfect inference that beauty is based on perception. Perception is the “process of selecting, organizing, and interpreting sensory information, enabling us to recognize meaningful objects and events,” (class notes, 10/7/2013). As a part of the brain’s top-down processing, the perception of beauty has been created and is modified and adjusted based on what is seen, heard and encountered.
Ultimately people will compare themselves to others because that the way we are; now they should not let that interfere with the definition of beauty. Have courage to be unique, stand out no matter what others think. Carlin explains that sometimes being physically beautiful has its benefits but that isn’t the only way people will remember someone. People should not fear the way they look and judge themselves to hard because to someone else see’s beauty in them.
“Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart” (Kahlil). People focus more on the outward appearance instead of the inward appearance. One’s inward appearance is comprised of their character, values, morals, and the true nature of their heart. On the other hand, the outward appearance is composed of one’s dress and grooming. The inward and outward appearance determines whether or not a person is ugly or beautiful. The choices that we make also define whether or not one is ugly or beautiful; choices made in the past can sometimes be repeated in the future.
As stated by ‘The Duchess’, Margaret Wolfe Hungerford’s famous quote “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” As a result, beauty can describe as an inspiring view present in everything that can be seen. To begin, beauty can be viewed in a building as large and extravagant as the white house to the small hometown market or even in the sight of a single flower to a field filled with a million flowers. Also, beauty can be seen in the sunrise over the peaks of the mountains and also in the sunset glowing across a calm lake surrounded by the bright colors of the fall trees. Furthermore, people have physical beauty, which can be found in a person’s features, figure, or complexion. In the poem “Beauty & Dress” by Robert Herrick he explains the beauty he sees in his wife. Herrick states,
First, “Beauty is only skin deep” all depends on what type of person you are. Both quotes rate directly to each other but let’s pull them apart separately. I think that ‘Beauty is only skin deep’ is expressed in many ways by people. If you are not one of those beautiful people in this world then to some people you mean nothing. When you look around a normal school you see clicks right? Well that’s what I am talking about. You see the people who express them selves by wearing darker clothes, and the people who always wear the trendy and instyle clothes. Sometimes you get jealous and say mean things because either you wished you looked like them or you want the things they have. But we were all created differently. You have to like yourself first for anyone else to like you. Relating to ‘Beauty is only skin deep’ means that people only look at what’s inside that counts. Some people believe at love at first sight, what is all that about? That means they like the person just from seeing them. So many people in this world can relate. People judge people. You look around and think by the clothes or hairstyle this girl wears that she can either not afford them or chooses to be that way. So you think she is poor. Doesn’t she deserve your attention too? I think that beauty is over rated. People need to look at your mind, your intelligence. Coming from a world where I get compliments a lot, saying that I am pretty I know what its like. I am not trying to be conceited but it’s just the truth. Being pretty is not all it’s cracked up to be. Since being pretty has got me a lot of compliments it also brings in the bad sides of things. Ultimately girls think that I am stuck up and a rich snob, If they knew me or got to know me they would hopefully think differently of me. They also think that since I am pretty that their boyfriends will like me and leave them or something, cause they get really jealous. I do not know why this is but they think I am a boyfriend stealer. When I am only interested in those limited ...
Knowing you are worth the world and everything it offers. Knowing who you are, being unique, and staying true to yourself and not hiding your true soul from anyone or anything without being ashamed or in fear of it reflects your individualistic beauty. Beauty is instantly recognized by the soul and not eyes. The truest form of beauty comes from within ourselves and it is about embracing who you are and loving who you are while choosing your identity over appearance. Having a distinctive personality and being kind and caring to others makes a woman beautiful.
Today, the idea of beauty has been turned into unattainable forms by media, trends, and marketing. To reach the social’s standard of beauty, many people have gone anorexic, bulimic, or have been addicted to plastic surgery. Many people are wasting money on beauty products to make themselves prettier, but they forget that their inner beauty is more important. Inner beauty is an essential key to the overall appearance of someone. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder and is the combination of inner and outer attractiveness of one
This breaks my heart because to me ‘beauty’ doesn’t just mean being beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well. ‘Beauty’ doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be the prettiest girl in your class, but instead it means you have the prettiest heart of your class. In other words, it means to always lend a helping hand to those in need, to be able to see the light in the darkest of circumstances and to let your happiness shine through for everyone. In addition, it means to always be forgiving, understanding, and someone who you would be proud of your children looking up to. These are examples of someone who I think is
There is a saying “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.” What one individual considers beautiful may not be beautiful to another. Many people in this world have their own definition of what beauty is. Beauty can come from inside or the outside. To me, beauty is not only something that pleases the eyes. Beauty is a quality that pleases or delights the senses or mind. Unfortunately, society makes it nearly impossible to see our own beauty. Most girls are inclined to take a quick look into a compact mirror or run a few fingers through their hair, sizing themselves up with the nearest advertisement featuring a flawless bottle blonde. Some may go a bit further, running an endless list of insecurities
Across the globe, few people have difficulty recognizing someone who is considered beautiful. Beauty is often sought after, revered, and sometimes interpreted as a personal virtue. Standards of beauty are usually social marker determining cultural status, social acceptance and suitability as a mate.
Beauty can be seen by a person in several ways, and it is perceived by most to be only skin-deep. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “It is the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.” Additionally, the definition from the Oxford Dictionary says, “Beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.” In short, beauty is described as something attractive and likeable to the eyes. Nonetheless, beauty should not be seen on a physical level, but it should also encompass a person’s character. To further elaborate and understand beauty, one should know how the media perceives beauty towards
Beauty means to gather in and around us what is pure, exquisite, right and proper. Real beauty is a reflection of an unspoiled heart and a tranquil soul. It is our transformation from the inferior to the superior and it emanates from us when we have the ability to see loveliness in everything around us including other people. It comes from our ability to always have the best intentions and it cannot be shared until it has been excavated from deep inside our souls where our ancient knowing resides.
There are so many different opinions on what beauty is. The idea of beauty is purely opinionated. Beauty is your own idea, skinny or thick, long hair or short hair, light skin or dark skin. How people define beauty is unique in many different ways everyone has a different opinion. No ones idea of beauty is the same. In society today it has become more materialistic based if you wear the latest designer or you have the newest pair of sneakers out and the true meaning of being beautiful has escaped our souls. Beauty is not just what we see on the outside it is so much deeper then what we see its what we also have to offer on the inside.Your intelligence is beauty your mind, body, and soul. Beauty is not a single image, but the active embodiment
There are people who believe that inner beauty is more important. Sadly, societies nowadays have narrowed down the appreciation of beauty to only visual sense, but we forget that the inside of a person can also determine their true beauty. We tend to judge others’ quickly and harshly merely based on their appearance. For example, a guy with black skin, thick beard, and big muscles is considered violent and fiery. Another guy is seen as cute and trustworthy because he has white skin and a baby face. Those judgments are not often true because we do not get to know their real inner side. A beautiful looking person with an ugly heart is truly ugly. Time will soon age his or her outer look. They cannot reserve their youth forever even if they ask for the knife helps. That person’s ugly personality chase away the people around him or her. As a result, he or she will end up being ugly from inside out. In contrast, a not good looking person with a beautiful heart is beautiful. Inner beauty is considered as personality and morality. They express their inner self by caring and loving other people. Their inner beauty attract and create long lasting bonds with others. Inner beauty is always young, so it covers a person’s aged looking. Despite of being old, a person with beautiful personality will always feel beautiful and happy because there are people who are willing to love and care for
Rather than not focusing on physical beauty altogether, we should spend a moderate time on it and then focus a large amount of our time on inner beauty. There has to be a balance between external and internal beauty. Once we find the balance, we can live our lives happily. However, although physically beauty is important, inner beauty is more important because it is permanent and a representation of a person’s true self.
