?gThe family is the most basic unit of government. As the first community to which a person is attached and the first authority under which a person learns to live, the family establishes society's most basic values.?h
Charles Caleb Colton
What does the existence of ?efamily?f mean to you? To me, family is the group of people who will be by my side through out my entire life. They are the people who cherish myself and turn to me when everything is going wrong. My parents show me how to do the most important things in life which are to love and to be loved. They also give me the chance to do whatever I choose in life without making me do what they want me to. My brother always shows he is interested in everything as well as I do. Family is what will always be by my side and I feel that they deserve the most credit for forming the person who to care, to love, and to fight. The novels The Outsiders and The lost boy, the short story The Left Foot and the poem On Children, all are in the situation of individuals forming their identity while growing up in different families. In The Outsiders, the main character grows up without parents so his family becomes only his two brothers; in the novel The Lost Boy an extremely abused boy finds his strength with new family; in the short story My Left Foot the boy struggles for his disability but successes with a huge support from his family; in the poem On Children the independency of child is narrated ironically. Therefore by examining the works from four different perspectives, it will be revealed that family is something which builds the most important value and identity in individuals.
First of all, in order to gain better understanding of the themes of these works, it is necessary to examine the novel The Outsiders from a historical point of view.?@Susan Eloise Hinton, the author of The Outside, was born in 1948 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she was raised. Her writing style in this novel is very straightforward as it was written when Hinton was only sixteen years old. I suppose that when she wrote the novel, she was also facing the problems which are referred in the novel. Poverty, rejection, violence, alcohol, drug abuse and family conflict, those are often what teenagers confront in a severe society. Interestingly major issues among teenagers have not changed over the time. Without parents, the characters de...

Biological perspectives include factors such as our genes, hormones, chemical imbalances, and / or the presence of disease within the brain. Throughout the investigation, it was common knowledge that Andrea Yates had a history with mental illnesses. Yates was suffering from a condition known as postpartum psychosis, meaning that after the birth of a child, she became extremely depressed, and even recalls having hallucinations of murdering her newborn child. After attempting to commit suicide, her condition was treated with the clinical drug effector and the anti-psychotic Haldol. As Andrea appeared to
The downfall of Andrea was sudden, and started with the overdose of a drug that treats major depressive disorder, Trazodone on June 1. After this incident, she was put in the hospital and diagnosed with major depressive disorder by her doctors, but her husband was told that this was an isolated event and was put on a few antidepressants. Barely a month later, Andrea attempted suicide for the first time on June 20th, 1999 by putting a knife to her throat. This attempt frightened Russell Yates, and he started to notice the unusual actions and words his wife was doing and saying. He worried about Andrea’s visions and descriptions that she provided to the hospital staff when she described a knife that was “dull, thin, long like a slicer, and had a wood handle” (O’Malley 38-39). The hospital staff also reported an incident where Andrea may have spoken to Satan, or the dark idea possessing her mind, and she screamed, “What do you want?!!” (O’Malley 40). After 19 days of hospital stay in the psych ward, and an intense mixture of antidepressants called Haldol and Cogentin, Andrea was discharged to a Partial Hospitalization Program. By August 18th, 1999, Andrea’s doctor, Dr. Starbranch, wrote in her notes during a post hospital appointment that the couple wanted to have “as many babies as nature would allow” and designated the fact that this would “guarantee future psychotic depression”
Andrea Yates was a woman that did the unthinkable, killed all five of her children. She suffered from a state of depression, using religion as an excuse and had many signs before this happened.
The idea of family is a central theme in Lorraine Hansberry’s play A Raisin in the Sun. Hansberry alludes to the Old Testament book of Ruth in her play to magnify “the value of having a home and family”(Ardolino 181). The Younger family faces hardships that in the moment seem to tear them apart from one another, but through everything, they stick together. The importance of family is amplified by the choices of Walter and Beneatha because they appear to initiate fatal cracks in the Younger family’s foundation, but Mama is the cement who encourages her family to pull together as one unit. The hardships of the family help develop a sense of unity for the Younger household.
“Not Guilty” doesn’t mean the person didn’t commit the crime, it just mean that when the person committed the crime he/she could not tell right from wrong. I believe that Andrea profile does not fit the profile of legally insane. Yes, Andrea has major mental issues and suffers from many mental diseases, however, at the time of the murder I believe she was at the right state of mind. Under the definition of law a person can only be declared insane if at the time of the crime the person was unable to understand right from wrong and knew the consequences of his/her actions. She knew that it was legally wrong to kill another human being thus waiting to do it when her husband was not home who was of solid mind. She also planned out which child to kill first because of them alerting the other children and risking them escaping. She was found guilty but ended up having a second trial which she was found not guilty by reason of insanity. According to a juror, during the time of the Yates case, the Insanity Law in the state of Texas stated, "As a result of severe mental disease or defect, did not know that his/her conduct was wrong", this would be changed to, "as a result of a severe mental disease or defect, the defendant was unable to appreciate the nature and
Family, and its definition, is universal, it describes a union, particularly with parents and children. One could define Family as a group of people who are related to each other, a person’s children, and a group of related people who lived in the past. In reality, Family has a profound meaning, unique to every household and family. On a personal note, family is defined as a foundation of love, support, and strength.

Enrique, J. et al (2007), states that the family is the littlest unit of a general public and, subsequently, evaluative to its improvement and support. There are four primary matter in the development of a family: mate choice, spousal connections, child rearing, and change.
According to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) which has been on the forefront in undertaking research studies, pertaining to the prevalence of medical errors; systemic flaws are largely to be blamed for the high number of medical errors (BMJ Publishing Group Ltd 2011). The Hastings centre also shares the same sentiments when they state that “Many errors can be traced to flaws in complex systems of healthcare delivery, not flaws in individual performance” (The Hastings centre 2011, 5). These revelations come amid increased blame on healthcare workers for their apparent neglect of safe healthcare practices. IOM gives an example of poor communication between healthcare providers as one of the main problems associated with systemic flaws which consequently lead to medical errors. Because of this reason, the institute claims that focusing less on individuals and more on systems is likely to reduce the prevalence of medical errors.
People must be concerned about it more in developing countries. Since there are lacks of the medical errors evaluation structures in some countries, the outcome is always catastrophic. In Africa for example, many countries do not properly report the data. In Republic of Guinea, there are no official data concerning the medical errors. In those countries, there are no risk for the physicians to lose their licenses because there no structures to control their errors. In the United States, the medical errors are big concerns; the reporting systems of errors are developed. Errors in the United States can cause to the physicians the suspension of their licenses and/or their revocation.
The portrayals of men in advertising began shifting towards a focus on sexual appeal in the 1980s, which is around the same that women in advertising were making this shift as well. According to Amy-Chinn, advertisements from 1985 conveyed the message that “men no longer just looked, they were also to be looked at” as seen in advertisements with men who were stripped down to their briefs (2). Additionally, advertisements like these were influencing society to view the male body “as an objectified commodity” (Mager and Helgeson 240). This shows how advertisements made an impact on societal views towards gender roles by portraying men as sex objects, similarly to women. By showcasing men and women in little clothing and provocative poses, advertisements influenced society to perceive men and women with more sexual
When the word “family” is discussed most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people 's lives they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it 's money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support. They are the ones who support their children during those life decisions. Family is not always blood related. Finally family is forever, family will never go away.
What is a family? When people hear the word family, they automatically think, mother, father, children, aunts, uncles and grandparents, but the true meaning of Family in the dictionary is: a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household or descendants of a common ancestor. It’s one of the most important social group that one can belong to because people learn their value and the meaning of life. Family is the ones that teach each other about life and how and what to expect when starting a family of their own. They care and tend to one another’s needs creating a bond that is of trust that should be cherished. They are the ones that get together at the dinner table during the holidays, birthday celebration or life achievements
Everyone seems to define family differently, however, the significance of family is the same. For you, family means everything. You can always count on your parents and siblings for help and love. Family is very valuable and important to you and should never be taken for granted. No one can deny that family is the foundation of our generation. A family is where we all start our life journey and helps us grow to be successful throughout our lives.
