My home growing up was filled with creative people. My dad has always been immensely talented. He was good at nearly every artistic endeavor he pursued. He sat me down when I was about 3 or 4 and taught me to braid on my little pony dolls. Not just any braids but fish bone, french, and various other styles. He could make wall size rugs from knots and braids. I have seen clay sculptures he made that seem like they would take years of training to accomplish. Music always surrounded him, he must be the only grandfather who will listen to any music. You would never hear him say that music now a days is crap compared to what it used to be. He has made simple bracelets to large steel buildings. His schematics of what he is going to build …show more content…
Those very same people are capable of listening to music and viewing paintings and reading books that move them. They are part of an emotional conversation we have with each other. They may be the most wonderful listener you have ever spoke to. No two people like to talk about the same things and sometimes the conversation is over your head. The conversation spans time. Sometimes you talk to yourself. Sometimes you talk to yourself out loud and someone overhears you. Sometimes what you say becomes a speech heard by millions. The listener is just as important as the …show more content…
I cant wait to peel back layers and layers to see what's at the core. I watch ants go about there business, I look closely at tiny leaves on the ground, I like to see sand under a microscope, I like how math looks so complex and beautiful with each little number and sign. It amazes me that subatomic particles make all that we are and experience. It fascinates me how one person interacts with a group, or how a seemly complex feeling can be so simple at the root of it. It seems intuitive to me to look at a Pollock and peel and peel until I am careening off a road in a drunken wreck. I love when I am taught another dialect each individual sound it makes. Ted Talk Benjamin Zander: The transformative power of classical music. Until I watched this I couldn't hear classical music this way. I see art in the piano construction, in the piece Zander played, in the way he gave his speech, the way he communicated his own emotions and creativity. When Tolstoy talks of Beethovens 101st sonata, I can't agree that it fails. The art lies in the very heart of the skills crafted to create it. Talent, skills, and craftsmanship can be separated into its own language
Throughout the story, Tolstoy gives us a clear reasoning as to why he writes so deeply and meaningfully, but also leaves plenty of room for our own interpretation. Combining the two structural elements of pathos and metaphors in his writing helped give a well-defined reason to his intended audience of what he was trying to say. Over all, Tolstoy’s illustrative language was beautifully written and got the message across about making sense of death and accepting
...es Art an inner power struggle. Subsequently, Art becomes resentful. Art’s resentment towards Vladek does not allow him to emotionally mature. Yet through writing Art forgives his father and becomes a man.
Crooked Beak of Heaven Mask is a big bird-figure mask from late nineteenth century made by Kwakwaka’wakw tribe. Black is a broad color over the entire mask. Red and white are used partially around its eyes, mouth, nose, and beak. Its beak and mouth are made to be opened, and this leads us to the important fact in both formal analysis and historical or cultural understanding: Transformation theme. Keeping that in mind, I would like to state formal analysis that I concluded from the artwork itself without connecting to cultural background. Then I would go further analysis relating artistic features to social, historical, and cultural background and figure out what this art meant to those people.
To start, Tolstoy believes that are can either be universally good art or good for people with specific tastes. However, the very best works have the ability to be universally
He starts off by speaking to what beauty is, and it’s definition. Tolstoy has declined any type of definition of art based on a concept of “beauty”. There is no objective way of describing or defining beauty. Tolstoy’s thoughts are that beauty is what pleases us. My disagreement on that is, there are many different things that could please me but could not please another individual. Beauty to me might be something inner, while someone else can argue that it’s all about outside looks. Tolstoy refers to beauty’s definition as absolutely perfect. He states the type of pleasure we tend to obtain from beauty is that which satisfies us without inducing any desire in
Although art can sometimes impede the development of human society, the majority of the time, art will benefit and improve humanity. A lot of people did find Eminem offensive, but then again, more people loved him that hated him. They find him to be one of the greatest rappers of all time, and although he may be hated on because of his art, more people love him because of his art, and how talented he is as an artist.
In the early 1700s, the monarchies failures at finance, national debt, involvement in multiple wars with
In order to determine whether or not my listening style changes in various situations, I decided to perform an assessment of my conversations over the past ten days. The first evaluation I conducted occurred after volunteering at my child’s school, and yielded some rather interesting results. I reflected upon my conversations with the teachers, and settled on my listening style being more content-oriented; while my interaction with the children was almost completely people-oriented. I had predicted that my listening style would be more balanced between all of the age groups involved; however, I could not relay many of the details discussed with the children after my volunteering time ended. I am happy to say that I did retain most of the content of my conversations with the teachers, but had no recollection of an emotional impression with t...
All five of the archetypal shapes are in my self-portrait. First of all, the outside appearance is that of a square of rectangle. I feel that people who do not know me do not perceive any of the characteristics that the other shapes represent. Stability is the only characteristic represented by the shapes that people perceive of me. Inside my stable world is a circle in the middle of the bottom of the box. Within the circle is a triangle. This represents how spirituality is the center of my inner self and I find balance within my spirituality. Coming up from the center of the box is a spiral. As the spiral reaches its apex, there is an equidistant cross. This represents how I am constantly growing in order to reach a critical decision-making time of my life (what I want to do for the rest of my life).
The development of semiotics in the 20th century revealed much about ideology in mass culture. Structuralist Roland Barthes' texts on the matter are very much products of their times, yet many still have a troubling modern-day relevance. Barthes' Mythologies demonstrates the possibilty to find meaning through the 'trivia' of everyday life. He claims to want to challenge the 'innoncence' and 'naturalness' of cultural texts and practices, as they are capable of producing a multitude of supplementary meanings, or 'connotations'.
There have been a vast number of lives that have touched mine. Many different people have shared a piece of their soul in my formation. However, it is my mother who is the most important and most influential person in my life. My mother raised me by herself since the day I was born. My father was abusive and she left to make a better life for the both of us. She has worked as many as four jobs at one time. My mother wants to make sure my brothers and I have a better life than she did. It hasn’t always been easy for her, taking care of us on her own, trying to pay bills and making sure we had everything we needed. My mom has always had us involved in sports at a very young age. We always were doing something or involved in something growing up. We went to summer school all through elementary school because she wanted us to get a head start. I remember when we were little she enrolled us I a manners and more class and I can recall when we would go out to eat people would compliment us on how well behaved we were.
When I was in high school, I was very involved in the arts. I took a band, choir and two years of visual art. During the years of high school, I knew that the fees for the art courses cost much more than other electives at my school. I also observed that the school focused more on their athletic and academics programs, than on their art programs. We had many fundraisers to raise more money for the art programs even after paying an already expensive fee to takes these electives. Schools are neglecting the visual arts programs and placing all of their money and focus on academics and athletics programs. I propose a balance between the arts, academics, and the athletics.
Everyone has that one person in their life has influenced to be who they are. Some weren’t meant to be looked up to, still somehow that person shaped them to be who they are today. It could be anyone, a friend, teacher, most of the time a parent. A parent that has influenced their child would be a hard parent, who disciplined and showed the real world to their kid, for what it really is. In hopes that their kid will survive the real world and pass on their knowledge to their kids and their children and so on.
Throughout the ages art has played a crucial role in life. Art is universal and because art is everywhere, we experience it on a daily basis. From the houses we live in (architecture) to the movies we see (theatre) to the books that we read (literature). Even in ancient culture art has played a crucial role. In prehistoric times cave dwellers drew on the wall of caves to record history. In biblical times paintings recorded the life and death of Christ. Throughout time art has recorded history. Most art is created for a specific reason or purpose, it has a way of expressing ideas and beliefs, and it can record the experiences of all people.
Interaction is a significant part of our daily lives. Oral communication with others is inevitable, and therefore it is crucial for us to acquire the skills to do so correctly. Aside from simply stating words or expressing ideas, oral communication serves various purposes. Oral communication allows an individual to express emotions, ideas, and feelings; it gives people the ability to empower, inspire, and motivate those who listen; and it allows people to share knowledge and traditions, as well as build their self-esteem. Oral communication is also useful in leading us to new discoveries, ideas, cultures, and perspectives (O’Neill). Thus, oral communication serves several different purposes in daily life; yet each of these purposes are connected to an even larger purpose. According to the textbook Communication: Making Connections, “Effective communication is critical to living successfully in today’s soc...
