Hello! My names Lewis Biszant and I currently attend the Universeity of Wyoming. I plan on transferring to ASU next year and I just had a few questions about tryouts next year. I was wondering if you guys were offering clinics or anything to help prepare for tryouts and when I fly out there to visit the campus if there was an open gym or something I could attend. I also was wondering if for tryouts I should continue practicing one man stunting or should I focus more on group stunting, since I saw online that the cheer team doesn't do sideline cheers at games. And final question, should I focus on perfecting my skills for dead mat or if its a competiting team should I just stick to spring floor? Thank you for taking your time and reading my
email and I look foreward to hearing back from you. -Lewis Biszant
College athletes have a goal that they pursue. The jump to the professional sports leagues is an accomplishment that most college athletes wanted to achieve. But most college athletes go to college and forego completing their senior year and don’t get a degree. In basketball most athletes are one and done. This means they go to college for only one year then enter the NBA draft. For the NFL players have to be out of high school for three years and necessarily don’t have to go to college.
Should College athletes stay in school? Many people wonder about this subject. Some people say athletes should stay in school to get in education before they become professional athletes. Others think, why stay in school when you can make millions of dollars just playing a sport. I believe athletes should stay and get a degree and in this essay you will see why.
I believe that I will be academically successful at Ohio State because I have taken the time to realize what my career goals are. When I graduated from high school in 1996, I really had no idea what career path I wanted to pursue. So I listened to a lot of wise people who pointed out the things that I was good at. I entered Ohio University as an Engineering major and later switched to Industrial Technology. After many years in college I found I was not successful at the things I had previously been successful at. I realized that what I was studying really did not interest me. I actually didn’t like it at all. That was the point that I decided I had wasted enough time and money and I walked away from college.
I had one friend and his name was Mikey MacGuire he was the one that convinced me to try out. I had a long talk with my dad and mom (mainly my dad) the night before tryouts. He said “Luke, if there is one word of advice I can give you it would be that, Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work” this is a quote from Tim Tebow and his book (Through my eyes). I took his advice to heart and thought about it all day. I came to the conclusion that I just needed to work my ass off.
Should college athletes be required to graduate with a degree, before they go to the pro’s? I believe that all colleges should make it mandatory for their student athletes to graduate before they are allowed to go to the pro’s. Only a small percentage of student athletes go on to have a career in professional sports after college. The few that are lucky enough to make it to the pro’s usually end up playing for a couple of years and then end up not being able to find work. College athletes should be required to obtain degree’s because not only does it allow you to have something to fall back on if you can’t make it to the pro’s, but it also can show pro sports teams that you are a mature individual, and your education is important to you as well.
Attending college is not only a chance for students to further their education, but it also allows them to experience the lessons life has to offer. One of the hardest lessons to learn is how unfair life can be. Students who work diligently to achieve academic success in the classroom may quickly realize their academic efforts do not “pay off” as much as the student-athlete who possesses the ability to kick a football fifty yards. There is an evident failure in the educational system when the student-athlete’s performance and how they contribute to a winning season, is more valuable to the university, than the academic student who strives to graduate with honors. Students who focus their efforts on an academic based education are not rewarded with the same benefits, resources, and perks as their student-athlete counterparts.
Have you ever wondered if NBA players really need to go to college? Well some people think they Need 2 years of it and some people say you can just come right out of high school if you are good enough? Some of most NBA made a rule that NBA players need 2 years of college before NBA. A few People are saying that going to college before NBA will increase basketball iq, leadership, and maturity. It will also increase your basketball skills overall, People think jumping right into NBA the will be better. They need to understand what it increases in your ability of the game. All facets will be tremendously Increased you will be a higher pick the harder you work.
In conclusion, I want to be an athletic trainer when I get older. The school that I go to has a partnership with my local football team, Ridgeview Wolfpack. I have to visit their company for a day, that way, I can obtain a better understanding of the career I have chosen. It is possible that I can get big in that career that I have chosen, Then I may go and help out with a famous sports team. This is the career that I am hoping that I get when I get out of school. Ever since I have been playing sports I thought it would be amazing to work with Pro players. I would be working with the players that everybody dreams
It was the most competitive three days of my life, basketball tryouts. This is the first time my friends and I were trying out for a school team, we were all hyped for basketball season. I entered the tryout excited and consequently energetic. Adrenaline was pulsing through all the players bodies, there were 6 foot tall 8th graders with years of experience competing against 6th graders who have never touched a basketball before for the same spots. I was in between, I was a 6th grader that had experience along with some skill. That was also my downfall, I went in overconfident and consequently cocky. I wasn’t planning on getting cut, I walked into the tryout overwrought, nothing could stop me from being on the team.
College athletes and their learning struggles are common through higher educational facilities. Their marriage to two fulltime activities is not well known to the public. Why we are not seeing how many young athletes are used by the academic system? Is Petrie’s article true reflection of struggling athletes in crude education? Sad truth hidden in those articles is collecting dust in libraries. The truth is addressed to teachers, coaches and trainers.
College is a time for young people to develop and grow not only in their education, but social aspects as well. One of the biggest social scenes found around college campuses are athletic events, but where would these college sports be without their dedicated athletes? Student athletes get a lot of praise for their achievements on the field, but tend to disregard the work they accomplish in the classroom. Living in a college environment as a student athlete has a great deal of advantages as well as disadvantages that affect education and anti-intellectualism.
The effectiveness of the coaching method depends completely on the coach, his personality, and the needs of the student-athletes. Each program and institution is unique and has different institutional goals and objectives that attract different student-athletes compared to other colleges or universities (Koivula, Hassmen, Fallby, 2002).
“The odds of a high school basketball player making it to the “next level” to play college basketball (DI, II, or III) is slim. In fact, only 3.4% of high school players go on to play college basketball. Taking it even further, only 1.2% of college basketball players go on to get drafted in the NBA” (Winters, 2016). There are two types of players in the game. There are the kids who play basketball because they are athletic, and all they are seeking to gain is the recognition and awards. They want to be known. Those players are self-centered, they do not play for the team, and generally don’t play because they love the game. These are the types of players who don’t usually go on to play at the next level. On the other hand, there are the players that absolutely dedicate their life to the game of basketball just because they love the game. That is what coaches are looking for in a player, and that is the kind of player I am striving to be.
Six long hours after departing Hotchkiss, we finally reached our destination. We pulled into the parking lot of the Super 8 just off Interstate 76 in Sterling, Colorado. Since I had been to this hotel on a previous trip to Sterling, I began wishing I had brought my swimsuit along. Mom and dad went inside and got the keys for room 129. I was so sick of riding in the car that I did not care what the room looked like as long as there was a bed for me to sleep on. As we entered the room, on the left there was the bathroom sink, a mirror, and a place to hang our "good" clothes. To the right, was the miniature bathroom. There was not enough space in there for a midget. Stepping out of the entranceway, there was a wooden dresser with a 27-inch television. By the large window, there was a small table. Two queen size beds sat on either side of the nightstand. The purple patterned quilts were quite shocking compared to everything else in the room.
Imagine walking across the stage in just a few years from now. Having thousands of eyes pointed at you as you take that emotional walk to finally receive your high school diploma. After a few years when you have graduated high school and started life, you're going to look back and think, what have I accomplished so far? Extracurricular activities can be very beneficial for students now, and those in the future as well. They can allow you to feel like you have accomplished something while in school. Extracurricular activities are important because they can benefit a student through personal, educational, and even social means. It is a great idea to get more students involved in extracurricular activities and parents should begin to give their kids a little push to get them more involved.
