"I love Thanksgiving because it's a holiday that is centered around food and family, two things that are utmost importance to me." Marcus Samuelsson made this known and admittedly, Thanksgiving is an amazing holiday. The turkey, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie are just a few key staples to a classic Thanksgiving meal. Thanksgiving is clearly the holiday to celebrate if food is the objective. Although Christmas dinner may fall below the famous turkey and potatoes, it a great way to spend time with your family in more than one way for more than just one day. That is how it is in my family at least. We are always having fun and being silly no matter what kind of crazy situation we may be in. Sometimes it is just baking cookies together or having a cleaning party while the speakers are turned up all the way. Spending time together with family and friends are probably one of the best ways to make memories. Especially during the holidays. One tradition that my family has is that we decorate our Christmas tree before Thanksgiving. We take a day to decorate our entire house so that we can be fully prepared for the months to come and we will usually keep the decorations up until mid-spring. It may seem borderline obsessive but it is just my family's way of getting ready for holidays and spending time together and get ready to make memories for the weeks to come. Another great example is we take a day or two over Christmas break and make frosted sugar cookies together. Every year we gather around the Christmas tree at my grandparent's house and before we open gifts we all sit around together and we listen to my grandpa as he shares the story of the birth of Jesus. Listening to this famous story really helps everyone to remember what Christmas is all about and it keeps our minds focused on the real reason for Christmas and not what gifts we do or do not get.
