Everybody loves special effects in movies. They are one of the main instruments that give movies life. All of the great movies, especially the ones with superheroes such as Spiderman Homecoming, Captain America Civil War, Wonder Woman, they all have hundreds of special effects. I always wondered how were those effects made, how hard, and how much effort must be put into them to make the effect look as realistic as possible, which made me consider taking the path of a special effects technician. It is a fun job as it is a difficult one also depending on the area of specialization you might want to apply for, and then there is the career path from production assistant all the way to a special effects coordinator, and finally, the hardest part …show more content…
The computer generated imagery (CGI) creates computer images that are impossible for actors to accomplish in real life or are exceeding the budget. Another area is makeup which is the most known technique in movies that gives actors life on stage. The art of makeup can create an amazing effect on injuries or scars and can fabricate costumes that give life to the characters. The third area is in mechanical effects which involve the building of props, sets and backgrounds for the movie. Those specialists design and build machineries that help the stunt members complete their tasks. They also create and arrange the sets and give the scenery a taste of what the real place would have looked like such as a WWI battleground or the Great Pyramids of Egypt, but at the same time they also must be very careful and resourceful when building the sets. The last area and the most dangerous one is the pyrotechnical effect which involves guns, fire and explosions. Pyrotechnicians use explosives most of the time on their job and there are often used stunt doubles for the scenes with explosions but they always have to think about safety. They always wear explosion or fire-retardant …show more content…
There is always movement in the life of a special effect technician, unless you have a contract with a long-running television show. In an interview about special effects technicians, Marty, a former special effects coordinator and supervisor, talks about the job security saying “a special effects coordinator or special effects technician loses his or her job as soon as a current project is over, “(Marty 1). When there are less contracts available, technicians must be very careful on budgeting money until they can find another project to work on. The most likely places for special effects technician to find work with good income are in Los Angeles or New
3. Stunts have always been part of movies. But in the early days of Hollywood, their was no such thing as a professional stunt performer. Actors generally did their own stunts: They dangled from the sides of buildings, jumped from speeding trains, and fell off galloping horses—often with little or no safety equipment. When actors didn’t do their own stunts, filmmakers would simply higher the first person they could find crazy enough to give it a go. Accidents that resulted in serious injury or even death were not uncommon.
The start of special effects in film is largely attributed to Georges Méliès and his process of removing a section of a moving picture to place another moving part within.
Besides the great components that has formed, what I unlike many of the critics believe to be one of the greatness movie of all time, an aspect of the film that does not seem to disappoint is the special effects, more specifically, the CGI’s. BBC News states that “it is this hyper-real movie magic that has made the Oscar-winner one of the most sought after visual effects supervisors in Hollywood.” Oscar winning Scott Farrar was the visual effects supervisor in the entire preceding Transformers trilogy. The movie offered “a tour de force of special effects, even if the critics were less kind about the movie's storyline”. While some may say that the visual effects used in the film were too much and sometimes unnecessary, there is no doubt that Farrar achieved great lengths and challenged future innovators of the visual and special effects industry.

With this short but very interesting and informative class I have just scratched the surface of the what it takes to make a full fleged film. It takes much more than I had presumed to make a movie in Hollywood. The number of people that it takes to make a minute of a movie let alone the entire movie was astonishing to me. There are many things that it takes to start making a movie but without an idea of some sort there is no movie to be made.
The Matrix is a sci-fi action film about a computer hacker named Neo that has been brought into another world deemed “the matrix.” The Matrix is a prime example of cinematography. The film uses many different types of cinematography such as mise-en-scene, special effects, and camera shots to make it interesting and entertaining to the audience guiding their attention to the important aspects of the film.
Computer generated imagery has evolved and spread throughout cinematography and the film world like wildfire. Although computer generated imagery offers countless creative opportunities, the art form of special effects makeup should be practiced and preserved, as just that- an art form. Most people have begun to describe special effects makeup as anachronistic. Considering how long special effects makeup has been around, people are convinced that its existence is coming to an end.

The Role of Computer Generated Imagery in the Film Industry Computer Generated Imagery is the special effects used in motion pictures to create a visual depiction of an illusion that can not be easily created in real life. Directors of major motion pictures have been using these technologies since the early days of the personal computer. Early on, when and special effects were in their beginning stages, it was difficult to make efficient and effective effects that are well accepted by the movie critics and the general public. An evolution of special effects and the introduction of computerized animation brought the standards for movie effects to a higher level. The development of new methods of Computer Generated Imagery for less money and more effective than in the past has allowed even fairly low budget movies to incorporate such technology.
Film editing by definition is part of the creative postproduction process of filmmaking. In today’s modern world, film has made use of advanced digital technology to help with the editing. The editor or editors are usually given a complete compilation of all the footage. These various separate shots that can be regarded as ‘ raw’ footage. Their task is to create a finished motion picture through combining and selecting shots and putting them into a coherent sequence of events. Whenever we are viewing a film it is extremely difficult to consciously perceive all the editing that has been undertaken. Every single time there is a change from one image to another, this is an edit. For editors, it could be a possible annoyance or perhaps a blessing that critics and the audience never specifically point out the editor’s contribution. However it must be noted that film editors aren’t the only ones that will contribute to a films editing.
Computer Generated Images, or CGI, is a form of Computer Graphics design, and animations, that make a image look 3D. These images are shown all throughout the media world, industry, and business, such as print media, tv, movies, pictures, commercials, etc. CGI’s have improved rapidly on software that helps our world improve on computer generated imaging. CGI software’s is used to make graphical design for purposes like movies in the theater. CGI companies and software’s, has made the technology age, and its computer has increase in speeds, and has allowed computer graphics programmers, and other companies, to make better quality films, games, and electronic digital photos on their CPU’s, or laptops. Because of the new advancement in software technology in CGI, and graphics designing, it has brought new internet religious cultures, its own new experiences, such as celebrities, and newer technological vocabulary. Technology advancement has increased so much that CGI’s has lead to the new beginning or era of virtual cinema photography.
Then, there is technical theatre. This area of theatre is my favorite and the goal for my future. Technicians are the ones who create the world for the actors or somehow manage everything behind the scenes. Before I explain the multiple fields and areas of technical theatre, I must stress how important this side of theatre is overall. When it comes down to getting a degree in technical theatre or pursuing it, people tend to view it as a purely practical occupation and experience based. Take a look at it in comparison to performance; in a graduate thesis by Christian J. Hershey in 2015, he took a survey of college courses offered for theatre education for a technical focused theatre degree rather than those offered for a performance focused
Adaptation of any kind has been a debate for many years. The debate on cinematic adaptations of literary works was for many years dominated by the questions of fidelity to the source and by the tendencies to prioritize the literary originals over their film versions (Whelehan, 2006). In the transference of a story from one form to another, there is the basic question of adherence to the source, of what can be lost (Stibetiu, 2001). There is also the question of what the filmmakers are being faithful to or is it the novel’s plot in every detail or the spirit of the original (Smith, 2016). These are only few query on the issue of fidelity in the film adaptation.
Offering the unique ability to visually and audibly convey a story, films remain a cornerstone in modern society. Combined with a viewer’s desire to escape the everyday parameters of life, and the excitement of enthralling themselves deep into another world, many people enjoy what films stand to offer. With the rising popularity of films across the world, the amount of film makers increases every day. Many technological innovations mark the advancement of film making, but the essential process remains the same. Pre-production accounts for everything taken place before any shooting occurs, followed by the actual production of the film, post-production will then consist of piecing the film together, and finally the film must reach an audience. Each step of this process contributes to the final product, and does so in a unique right. The process of film making will now start chronologically, stemming from the idea of the story, producing that story into a film, editing that footage together, and finally delivering that story to its viewers.
