I, Ruby Seymour, have read the book of Romans in its entirety twice. Righteousness: First off, I have to admit I don’t think I can adequately explain righteousness as according to God. However, good for me, that I have the Holy Bible to read and learn from. “Righteousness” basically means “rightness.” The earliest English versions of the Bible that I could find, used the word, “right wiseness.” Which, in their context essentially means the exact same thing as righteousness. It is the idea that the wiseness we gain from Christ, is always correct. It is never failing and never ending. When Romans speaks of one’s righteousness, or rightness, it refers to one’s rightness before God. It is the condition of being before God as one ought to be. This is not a side note when it comes to right believing. What constitutes being right before God, and why, is as fundamental as it gets.
Flesh: The range of meanings borne by this term in the Bible starts from the literal use denoting the material of which the human body is chiefly constructed, but quickly takes on other senses derived from the writers' understanding of the created order and its relation to God. Careful attention to context is needed to catch the precise nuance in any given case.
