Have you ever walked down the street and saw someone give a homeless man food, money or clothes? that is respect. Respect to me is treating people like you want to be treated, also respect is showing someone one that you care about them. People in this generation don’t show as much respect as they should and as they use to. I admit I probably don’t respect people as much as I should but I try. if you see a homeless war veteran on the road most people won't stop and help. The least people should do is thank him or her for their sacrifice to make us the land of the free still. we need to respect everyone no madder their race, color, creed, or sexual orientation. Everyone deserves respect. It does not matter their personality, the way they …show more content…
Everyone would be sad and no one would happy. It might be just me, but when people are rude and don’t show respect it makes me sad. Imagine a world where no one was nice even your parents would be rude. There is not a lot of respect at this time in history you don’t often see people being nice to one another unless they know them. Sure, there are some people who are nice, but then a lot of people who would not help you if you needed it. Say you drop one-hundred dollars in ones. You would think people would help you out, but I bet if someone helped you could count the money and there will be less because they took some …show more content…
If people don’t respect their doctor, their doctor wont do as well of a job. That means they have a greater chance of not catching sicknesses early and people could die. If people don't respect their waiters they could spit in people's food and that’s just gross and unsanitary. we don't know if the waiter is sick and people could get their sickness and have to go to the doctor they did not respect. If people don’t respect their Uber or taxi the Uber or taxi driver could take longer to charge they people who were more so that they could make more money. If people don’t respect people at the drive through they could mess up their order or spit in person that ordered
Respect is a such a simple concept and a virtue that should be simple to follow. It means treating other people and animals in a dignified manner. Respect doesn’t mean that people need to hug everyone they come across or hold their opinion higher than everyone elses. Respect means treating others as equals and acknowledging that as human
According to dictionary.com, respect’s denotation is an “esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability.” The origin of the word comes from the Latin word respectus, meaning “regard” or an “act of looking back at one.” Therefore, respect translates into valuing, honoring, admiring, and looking up to someone or something by taking care of and sharing kindness with one other. Respect is more than just admiring someone though: It involves trusting someone to choose ethical decisions. For example, why should someone respect a police officer? The po...
The ethical dilemma in the video and scenario provided is whether or not to keep the homeless people as hotspots. One of the negatives to keeping them is that some people could see it as being degrading towards the homeless people. People on the streets may treat them as objects and not realize their worth. They would be using the homeless people and there would be no equality. The biggest negative of all is that the homeless people might not value themselves. Whereas if we didn’t keep them, there would be non-sufficient wi-fi. On top of that the homeless people would be right where they were before in finances (no money). Unfortunately, most of the population would still look past them and not
The simple definition of oppression is the cruel and unfair treatment of an individual or group of people. Oppression can be systemic, meaning it is deliberate, and designed to marginalize a section of people by forever keeping on the outside of society. One such group of people who have been historically and continue to be oppressed are the homeless. According to Johnstone, Jetten, Dingle, Parsell, and Walter (2015), homeless men, women and children are denied basic civil rights even though they are members of society solely because they do not reside in a “home”. The homeless are a vulnerable and victimized population as they experience personal and economic hardship as well as discrimination and exclusion because of their housing status.
People often tend to think that others are in the awful situations that they are in due to

Homelessness affects millions each year within the United States with poverty-stricken children roaming the streets, prostitutes on every street corner, and Vietnam veterans sick with mental illnesses. With today’s failing economy, homelessness is a common thing to see in massive cities such as Los Angeles where Central City East, more commonly known as Skid Row, contains the largest amount of homeless persons within our country. Inside this area, camping tents are frequently seen on the streets and cardboard boxes litter the sidewalk for use as makeshift beds for those without a roof. With this problem progressively getting worse, the homeless who reside at Skid Row will eventually overpopulate the district with a multitude not receiving the help they need for housing, mental illnesses and various other problems. A solution has been proposed for a suburb tucked in the mountains in the San Fernando Valley called Kagel Canyon, where the Hope Gardens Family Center intends to temporarily house homeless women and children at their facility for two years. This has led residents of Kagel Canyon to oppose the project (Covarrubias). Although citizens of Kagel Canyon believe that a homeless center would create dangers and more crime for the community, the settlement would essentially take people off the street and help them not turn into criminals. In addition, the approach to having a homeless shelter allows the homeless a way to acquire basic necessities and facilities and an opportunity to receive services such as mental illness treatment in order to refine their own lives.
There are over 3.5 million homeless people in the United States alone (National Student Campaign against Hunger and Homelessness). Within this amount of people there are challenges beyond not having a home that the majority of citizens with a home do not face. These include: thinking about appearance, quality and source of food, living space, and source of money. Those mentioned are just a few things that non-homeless people may overlook when thinking about the challenges of homelessness. As a nation the way we perceive others around us comes into play here. Intentionally or not, homeless people are often judged based on their situation, rather than who they are. This may exist due to the communication barrier between the homeless and non-homeless. In order to move away from judgment and stereotypes, education on the subject of homelessness is vital.
In three seperate dictionaries, respect is defined as a regard for or appreciation of the worth or value of someone or something. In my opinion, respect goes far beyond this definition. Respect is the cornerstone of the society in which we live. Although many look at respect as simply treating another person or thing with kindness, this word has many different aspects. For instance, I would not give an elder the same type of respect that I would give my peers or myself. Respect is not considered a neccessity in this world but, I can’t imagine a person getting very far in life without this virtue.
Respect is a behavior that shows another person moral and ethical acceptance. Showing respect for another, even when not deserved, is considered to be a good sign of breeding in times past, but now as where society has changed, dissing "show disrespect for" has become more accepted, this behavior suggests a cultural shift from rewarding kindness and self-restraint to applauding a more open expression of hospitality through rudeness. Perhapes there is a lessening of concern over being respectable, along with an increased vigilance oto make sure one is respected.Concludeing that Civility must beging with the individual person making small sacraficiesfor others.
In conclusion respect is wrapped around our day to day lives. A famous philosopher once said “Respect is showing acknowledgement for some ones superiority in a certain field.” You can’t buy, demand, or force people to respect you but you can respect others in order for them to respect you. What people do not understand is that if we use common sense we would be respecting ourselves, respecting others, and respecting property all the time. Respecting yourself, others, and property might not be easy to do but it does have great rewards if you just do it.
The short story of “Young Goodman Brown” was written by the American fiction writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, born on July 4, 1804 (Salem, USA), and died on May 19, 1864, due to cancer (Plymouth, USA). He is considered a key figure in the development of American literature. Additionally, it should be noted that according to Encyclopedia of World Biography that his surname was at the outset Hathorne, but he added the "w" to avoid being related to his great-grandfather (who prosecuted several women for witchcraft). According to David Levin “a proper reading of the literal action removes some of the ambiguity that is now fashionable to admire it, but it should leave open a sufficient variety of interpretations to satisfy those who insist on multiple meanings” (345). Here is a
People receive respect whether they are privileged or underprivileged; the difference is individuals that are privileged often aren’t receiving genuine respect. People treat privileged individuals with respect because the money says, “I’m better than you”. The money equals power or shows a higher status/position in life and people treat elitist as so with no questions asked. These “special” individuals also have a tendency to show little, if any respect for others, especially when the others look of little importance. It seem that the entitled ones don’t understand that respect should be given in order for it to be received. In actually, people don’t respect the affluent because tha...
Homelessness is a growing epidemic across the country. Over 2 million people are homeless in America, and that number is increasing. 40% are families with kids, 30% are drug and/or alcohol addicts, 23% are mentally ill and 10% are veterans (Triplett, 2004, para. 1). This terrible misfortune has led to many unsuspecting people leading impoverished lifestyles, and facing the horrific and heart-wrenching tragedy of abandonment. The purpose of this essay is to not only persuade the readers to get involved in ending homelessness on local and national efforts, but to embrace new and creative ways of helping to end this rapidly growing problem, by taking action to end this catastrophic situation. Also, the causes and effects of why the homeless resort to violence, will be demonstrated by using comparison and contrast to examine the views and standpoints on helping the forgotten, so that we might end this calamity once and for all. In an increasingly interconnected world, your actions matter more than ever. You can make an indelible difference by taking action to end this tragic situation.
The second form of respect is the respect of property. This includes anything from writing on a desk at school to stealing from a department store. Property, whether it is the school's, a company's, a stranger's, or a friends, should always be respected. Respect means taking that extra few seconds to drive the speed limit so as not to hit anyone or anything. It means not smashing a pumpkin at Halloween just for fun. It means not throwing that piece of trash on the ground. That is respect.
