The short story of “Young Goodman Brown” was written by the American fiction writer Nathaniel Hawthorne, born on July 4, 1804 (Salem, USA), and died on May 19, 1864, due to cancer (Plymouth, USA). He is considered a key figure in the development of American literature. Additionally, it should be noted that according to Encyclopedia of World Biography that his surname was at the outset Hathorne, but he added the "w" to avoid being related to his great-grandfather (who prosecuted several women for witchcraft). According to David Levin “a proper reading of the literal action removes some of the ambiguity that is now fashionable to admire it, but it should leave open a sufficient variety of interpretations to satisfy those who insist on multiple meanings” (345). He lives in an unknown world full of hypocrisy and whose most holy and prominent exponents are faithful worshipers of distinct entities. Brown is reluctant to assume it, but the evidences command him to despair. To begin, the story is set in the seventeenth century and initiates with a young man of puritan beliefs, called Goodman Brown. Who leaves his house to begin his journey at dusk and developed throughout the night. This can be observed as mental darkness because Brown did not comprehend exactly what was happening in the community where he lived. His wife named Faith, she appeals to him to detain, his faith tries to persuade him not to go to kind of appointment agreed with the Devil. Notwithstanding, Brown starts his journey towards a dark forest. Subsequently Brown lists the midst of that inhospitable place where he meets the Devil disguising himself as a mature man carrying a staff in the form of a snake (Hawthorne).
