Currently, the number of unproductive land has increased globally due to mining process or poor drainage system. Increase in unproductive land has reduced expansion for agriculture and trading areas that has necessitated the need for land reclamation. Land reclamation refers to the process of bringing back or converting unproductive wasteland into productive or fertile land. The land reclamation involves using methods such as irrigation, flood control and drainage. Land reclamation helps in modifying streams and wetlands to make them useful for development purposes and bringing damaged soil back to natural state. Geographical nature of the land may change that could have an impact to environment. For instance, land reclamation may change the direction of the land that may result to flooding in case of rainy season (Innovateus 1).
Availability of abandoned land
Many lands abandoned after reclamation results due to their inability to produce as expected by the people. Idle land act as hiding place for dangerous animals, which makes living difficult for the people due to fear. The government as to make sure that the eradication of these lands has taken place to avoid wastage of resources and ensure that any land available as productive capability (wetlife 1).

Conclusion
In conclusion, the availability of many unproductive lands has necessitated the need for land reclamation to make these lands productive. Various methods for land reclamation such as irrigation, flood control and drainage applied in converting the unproductive land to productive lands. Land reclamation has brought a positive impact in ensuring that land for food production is available and besides construction of harbor. Land reclamation has also caused negative impact in destruction of natural habitat mainly of sea living.
