Recommended: Conclusion on IT governance
IT governance is an important concept in the information technology. The IT governance structure lays out the level of authority, decision-making process and the way issues are resolved. It ensures that companies stay on track to achieve their strategies and goals, implement good ways to measure IT’s performance, and shows what key metrics management needs and what return IT is giving back to the business from the investment it’s making (Schwartz K, 2007). IT governance helps to achieve cooperation between business and IT, and IT involvement of senior management (De Haes S, 2014).
Many organizations encounter frequent changes in administration that affect policy, processes and priorities. IT governance structures can help manage change so
The CIO establishes and executes the necessary governance processes to ensure component compliance as well as approves IT plans. He also creates governance and resourcing processes so that centrally managed capabilities meet the mission needs. There is also CIO Executive Board that recommends technology solutions and priorities. CIO Executive Board establishes DoD IT consolidation objectives and reviews progress. Under their directions groups to produce policy and guidance are formed. Based on their reports the leadership team can initiate or suspend actions and make necessary changes (Department of Defense,
There are many new technologies and international competitors who come up with new systems that bring new issues to the organization. The Air Force has to be prepared for not only current but also future risks. Being in the military and being able to communicate anywhere in the world anytime means there is always IT going and coming, and leaves area that can be breeched. The Air Force has a large turnover in personnel every year. All members are taught how parts of the military operate and IT is executed. This makes the system vulnerable at times. In the reserves a member can stop participating, and still possess an ID card. It can then be used to gain access to data bases and critical information for a few months before it will be noticed the members is no longer in a unit. Members who are discharged for bad conduct could hold grudges against the military and try to inform an outside agency about the military procedures and possible
My uncle, Morris Lester, retired in 2002 after serving for twenty-eight years. His rank at retirement was Lieutenant Colonel. The specific job that he had in the air-force was a C-130 air crew member, and he worked with combat missions for the first Gulf War, doing air drops for combat troops and their equipment. He is highly intelligent when it comes to this topic, so I asked for his input on this and was very curious to see what his opinion was.
The framework we will follow for the DoD is a descriptive control framework, which provides for governance at a high level. T...
The United States of America is a powerful and well known force throughout the world. It has become a superpower of nations in just about three hundred years, being one of the newest nations in existence today. Its military reaches out into several countries in the globe and holds a presence as a peacekeeper and wielder of democracy. Of the US military’s five branches, the Air Force is the ruler of the skies, keeping control of the earth’s aerospace. Without the Air Force Special Operations, the military could not complete operations as effectively or efficiently as it potentially could. The United States Air Force is a key part of America’s mission to spread and assist democracy throughout the world.
I think that though I have made several complaints about how the Air Force is ran in the maintenance field I do feel there is a good direction for where we are going as an organization. I know that the only thing I can control is my small area. I do manage a small group of people and hope to teach them the correct way so they are able to succeed. I continue to try and follow our core values because I think that if you follow these as an individual you can be successful. If you as a manager can abide by these values while supervising your people, no matter how many that would be, then morally you can feel like you did your best as a manager.
My journey into the Air Force was one that started off as a business transaction which transformed into one of duty, honor, and service. I have had the distinctive honor of leading joint forces to search for downed aircrew and leading multinational forces to increase combat capability on the Republic of Korea. I know that I am a part of the Air Force lethal force and am prepared to answer my nations calling in any way required.
This causes no information being shared from one department to another and often leads to no common ground between the two sides in critical meetings. The IT department spends too much time explaining the technical aspects of the project to the business stakeholders who don’t have the technical knowhow to contribute or respond. This leads to ineffective meetings and eventually goals not being accomplished. The IT executive sponsorship also needs to take the lead in bridging the gap between their department and business. The opportunity presented by Glen, the COO, to take IT folks on a road show to make them understand the business processes is an excellent example of executive sponsors taking the lead to build a better

Information Technology (IT) is a foundation for conducting business today. It plays a critical role in increasing productivity of firms and entire nation. It is proven that firms who invested in IT have experienced continued growth in productivity and efficiency. Many companies' survival and even existence without use of IT is unimaginable. IT has become the largest component of capital investment for companies in the United States and many other countries.
Henderson and Venkatraman proposed a model for business – IT alignment; it was intended to support the integration of information technology (IT) into business strategy by advocating alignment between and within four domains (see figure 1). The inter-domain alignment is pursued along two dimensions: strategic fit (between the external and internal domain) and functional integration (between the business domain and the IT domain). The objective of this model was to provide a way to align information technology with business objectives in order to realise value from IT investments. The authors argued that the potential strategic impact of information technology requires both an understanding of the critical components of IT strategy and its role in supporting and shaping business strategy decisions and a process of continuous adaptation and change. Hence, they presented a model that defines the range of strategic choices facing managers.
The literature supports the position that there should be a relationship between the structure and organization change. This study was undertaken to determine how different organization roles, hierarchy, and sizes affect planned strategic change. A survey instrument was administered to top federal government agency leadership to assess change in their organization. The intention is to draw common relationships between organization change and specific categories or sizes of organizations.
Change is a fundamental element of individuals, groups and all sorts of organizations. As it is the case for individuals, groups and societies, where change is a continuous process, composed of an indefinite amount of smaller sub-changes that vary in effect and length, and is affected by all sorts of aspects and events, many of which cyclic are anticipated ones. It is also the case for organizations, where change occurs repeatedly during the life cycle of organizations. Yet change in organizations is not as anticipated nor as predictable, with unexpected internal and external variables and political forces that can further complicate the management of change (Andriopoulos, C. and P. Dawson, 2009), which is by itself, the focus of many scholars in their pursuit to shed light on and facilitate the change process (Kotter 1996; Levin 1947; et al).
Subsequently, in order to assess and understand the practices involved with KM, we must first recognize the underlying provisions and implications within the IT sector. Information technology has had a dramatic influence over organization overall performance, IT driven structures have been able to evolve over time, in part due to the integration and implementation of such practices alike. Resulting from such assimilations, most division have yet to maintain proper executive IT sectors and overall preservation, mainly due to either lack of knowhow or inefficient policies in place that limit any advancement.
Information technology (IT) strategy is long term overall plan of the company to achieve the set goal against constantly changing IT requirements (Rouse, 2012). Information strategy should align with overall company’s business strategy for the success. It strategy covers all the factors for IT infrastructure management which includes cost of software and hardware, IT resource management, vendor management and other aspects associated to IT environment. IT strategy plan should be flexible enough to accommodate the business strategy changes, new technology or technology changes, customer requirement changes and budget constraints,. Many companies opt for formalizing the IT strategy plan in a written document long with milestones and critical success factors. IT strategy is a comprehensive plan that information technology management professionals use to guide their organizations (Rouse, 2012).
When it comes down to military service some people just aren't fit for duty. There are many circumstances where not everyone is able to deal with the intensity of military service. Many people would not be able to deal with what they put you through when you are in the military. Not everyone can take the stress and all the raucous that being in the military can bring.
