According to Feedback report, my two highest scoring sub-dimensions are Global Mindset and Relationship Interest. It basically represents my highest score in Interpersonal Engagement element of a scale. The Global Mindset high score can explain my effectiveness in highly multicultural environment to which I am exposed every single day of my life. This competence means I am very interested in different cultures and people from them; it also means that these interactions aren’t difficult or stressful for me, I can find common language with different people. In my personal opinion, this competence is very important in today’s highly globalized world. Living abroad since I was 17 years old, I find it extremely important to practice global mindset competence in order to feel comfortable with foreign environment. I’ve …show more content…

Being able to initiate as well as keep good relationship with different people is helpful from professional and personal points of view. In professional context it will help to work in multicultural environment more efficiently and in personal context will give new amazing people with different points of view, backgrounds and boost curiosity and global mindset competence. As I mentioned before, my life abroad gave me a lot of new amazing people from all over the world. They all helped me to discover new countries and cultures, showed that everything in this world is relative, that the status quo isn’t a right thing in many situations and so on. I think, my knowledge of languages helped me to score high in relationship interest competence. Being able to speak with people in their own language is helping to break a barrier between us. As I also mentioned, language is a source of culture and it is useful to know when dealing with different
Being familiar with several different languages is most definitely not one of the easiest things to do. While growing up and experiencing different opportunities to learn different cultures there is no way it should be passed upon. Having the knowledge of different languages will offer one to have a lot more culture within there main culture and the one they are opening there self into. People with culture know their way around the world and the life they’re living. Also, it would permit one to travel to places all over the world and countries. Being knowledgeable about back rounds of several cultures will open a door for one with several opportunities throughout ones life time. Discovering different cultures will bring one around the world giving individuals chances to learn lifestyles in completely different ways. “Wild tongues can’t be tamed, they can only be cut out.” (Anzaldua) I enjoy this statement within writing my essay simply because it represents that she will continue to stay faithful to her language throughout her life.

Exposing children to different cultures is necessary, and our culture needs to face that soon. It is proven that foreign language study can create more positive attitudes and less prejudice toward different cultures, which shows just how important foreign language really is (Latimer). Additionally, international travel is made a lot simpler (Latimer). Not to mention, speaking a foreign language can help to save money and improve a person's overall experience during their travels. Plus, foreign language can lead to appreciation of cultural diversity, which is much needed in

In today’s society, especially in the United States, most people are monolingual English speakers. As a result, these monolingual speakers are at a significant disadvantage compared to those who speak more than one language fluently. This disadvantage is crucial to realize since it is important to learn how individuals and the nation can be enhanced. Multilingual speakers have an advantage in global affairs that involve countries that speak different languages. Speaking multiple languages makes it easier to communicate with people when involved in foreign affairs. Those who speak multiple languages are also more aware of other cultures in society. Monolingual speakers are not as exposed to other cultures and have difficulty understanding or even recognizing them. Furthermore, being multilingual increases your
Cultural intelligence is the capability that could give insights on how to cope with multi-cultural situations and how to engage properly in intercultural interactions. It is the individual’s ability to interact effectively in culturally diverse situations (Brislin, Worthley & Macnab, 2006). We could consider the cultural intelligence as constantly improving concept; something we can develop over time and it is not only changes through experience, but also through knowledge as well, which includes communication with other
Globalization has many implications for leadership today and in the future. Global perspectives are being spread to the farthest points in the world and to the most isolated people. People of different cultures come to the United States daily to live, travel, or engage in business. Leaders must respond to this challenge of globalization so they can effectively reach out to as many people as possible. Opening themselves to the world's changes allows leaders to compare and contrast their culture with the arts, language, beliefs, customs, philosophies, and ways of living of other people. By observing and questioning another culture, leaders can understand the origin of an individual's viewpoints and become more sensitive to the cultural needs of that individual. By continually exposing themselves to other cultures, young leaders can thoroughly develop this global perspective and devote themselves to making connections with the entire world.
It is important to come to the mindset of learning of the different cultures, and hold onto the humanity of treating others how one would want to be
Walking upright on two legs has never been given much thought in my mind, and after the course, it has made me realize just how unique and important that is to us as human beings. However, in our culture, language is so important in communication and being able to get our points across. Every culture is unique, and so is their language, which is so immensely beautiful. Dialects and speech patterns play a big part in language, and it makes each human being unique to their culture. In my personal belief, language is in fact the most important part in being human as in my future career, language and communication will be key. I plan on double majoring in Graphic Communications and International Business and in both fields, communication with social networks, employers, and customers, is very important in holding a professional job. Without communication in these fields, none of the work would be completed and the business would not be able to operate. For humans, without language the world would be a bleak

...countries where we are physically noticeable as foreigners, I believe that by knowing how to speak the local language, we could prevent the locals from isolating themselves from us too much. This shows how we take action in respecting foreign languages as well (Hudson, 1984). I believe that gaining knowledge of foreign languages is a part travelling too, as we are venture ourselves to experience a part of their culture.
Presenting the students with complicated situations and looking for real life solutions are ways we promote global knowledge. Developing skills and objectives that requires students to think and produce outside their normal thinking capacity is creative work done with their minds. Teachers, leaders, parents and other school staff are constantly pushing the students to develop skills to encourage in depth thinking and reasoning skills. Adapting to change, working harder, thinking and communication skills are of high demand at my school also. Managing time, learning, and focusing on all parts of the world are highly taught and encouraged so students will be to function and survive in unfamiliar
Therefore, this is able to encourage the ability to communicate and appreciate the depth and diversity of the world. Communication with two different countries, or three, or four, will further bring the world closer together, in hopes of closing the divide between some countries. By learning a second language, it can significantly broaden your native language as it gives you stronger vocabulary skills, improved literacy skills and a better understanding of the grammar and construction of your own native language. Furthermore, this can help you in other educational studies. Though it is possible to travel to another country without acquiring the native language, the experience you will have is greatly diminished as you will not see beyond the surface of their culture. Additionally, knowing the native language makes travelling easier, by being able to order meals in restaurants, ask and understand directions. Additionally, it makes it easier to find accommodation, it’s more enjoyable, informative and more satisfying. You are able to further understand and appreciate international literature, music and films, by being able to understand word plays, innuendoes, cultural references, metaphors and further improve your ability to speak the
To elaborate, by mentioning intercultural understanding, I meant that each cultural group has different ways to communicate. For example, Western culture encourages people to be up-front and straight-forward with their communication; contrastly, people who are influenced by Eastern culture might be less outspoken about their ideas and pay a lot of attention to nonverbal language of the people around them. Culture is something that if one have never encountered or exposed to it, he or she would never know. I hope that after this project, besides of the knowledge we gained from the research itselves, all four of us would improve even more on our intercultural and interpersonal communication skills. Because at the end of the day, the knowledge that one have learnt might be forgotten, but all of the skills that one have gained will stay for a very long time.
Globalization has made intercultural communication inevitable. Communicating with other cultures characterizes today’s business, classroom, and community. Technology especially the internet has increased the probability that whatever is documented online will be read by someone from another culture.
