population is Chinese. This area has started to look like china town because of so many Chinese stores that has opened in recent years.
Chinese people have very unique culture and celebration. They have their own custom and traditions which make them different from many other people around the world. People of this area still celebrate their own events including Chinese New Year. Chinese people practice Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.
This growing community is also prone to many challenges. One of the biggest challenges they have is language barrier. As compared to other communities, Most of the Chinese people cannot speak Chinese. in order to know the reason I asked this question to many Chinese people. Chung, 28 years old, a grocery store worker said “In china we don’t have English language education except some big institutes. We prefer our own language in our country and people also don’t like to learn English. Because of this, when we come here, we face many problem regarding communication.”
Most of the people even after coming here don’t like to speak English. Because of this kind of behavior children find it more difficult to communicate. They have to speak and learn English at school but when they come home they cannot speak even a single word of English because of parents’ restriction. However, with the passage of time people have learned the importance of the English language. No mostly Chinese people after they come here either try to lean it at their home land before they come or after coming to America they try to enroll in a English learning course so that they can communicate with the people here. Especially those people who try to find a job instead of running their own business learn it. Jingqiu, 28 years...

...na is becoming advanced. People who come here also work so hard and this is the key that they settle more easily in this city. Chinese women work shoulder by shoulder with their men and help to support their family (Which is not the case among Pakistani community). I met with couple Mr. and Mrs. Wang who owned a small family business. Mr. wang told me that he is very happy with his wife who always help him in his business and always stay by his side when he is having a hard time.
Just like other communities Chinese community also have good and bad aspects of their culture. The good aspect that I found was they are a very hard working nation and the bad aspect that I found was lack of communication because of language barrier. And this barrier can be removed just by getting education which I see that Chinese community is already on the track of learning English.
We have all been in a situation where we have immigrated to a new country for different reasons regarding, better future, or education. In the book Jade of Peony, Wayson Choy describes a struggle of a Chinese family as they settle in Canada, with their new generation of kids born here, the family struggles to keep their children tied to their Chinese customs and traditions as they fit in this new country. The Chinese culture needs to be more open minded as it limits the future generation’s potential. Chinese culture limitations are seen through the relationship expectations, education, gender roles and jobs.
Since I grew in traditional chinese family, so I don’t know much about religions. In my family, we don’t go to church or temple. In my family, we do have some special customs that we follow during holidays,
The Cultural Revolution was a revolution that had happened between 1966 and 1976 and had a great impact on China. The Cultural Revolution used to be known as the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution but was changed after many years. The main goal of this Revolution was to preserve true communist mainly in China by purging remnants of capitalist and traditional elements from Chinese society. It was also used to re-impose Maoist which was thought as the dominant ideology within the Party. The Cultural Revolution was basically a sociopolitical movement. But it was mainly for the return of the leader, Mao Zedong, who was the leader of the revolution on and off. Which had led him to a position of power after the Great Leap Forward which paralyzed
For example, they speak English, Cantonese, and many of other languages which I did not understand, and these things I did not get from our class. Before I did this field trip, I thought that they only speak Cantonese and English. “Most residents are Chinese American, but there are other Asians, especially Vietnamese Americans, and a scattering of whites, Indians, and other ethnic groups. San Francisco’s Chinatown is the largest Chinatown in the United States, the largest cohesive community of Chinese Americans outside of China. Then I saw that there were many Chinese retail stores, and the retailers they do not speak English at all. These retail stores may import many of goods from China, like they import Chinese herbs, Chinese snacks; whereas, for the American brand companies, like Wells Fargo, Citi Bank, Chase, Bank of America, T-Mobil, Verizon, Sprint, AT&T; these American companies they put English and Chinese together on the boards and doors, and the staff can speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and English, but speaking English is not required. I think that the targets are to give people who live in Chinatown better service. Surprisingly, I did see a store which was selling
Regarding religion, Chinese culture saw the emergence of Confucianism and Buddhism as the major influence. Confucianism stressed filial piety which meant respecting elders and superiors, ruling righteously, and obeying commands and orders. Confucianism was introduced by the Chinese thinker Confucius. Buddhism was brought to China, but originated in India and was founded by Siddhartha Gautama. Followers of Buddhism worshipped Buddh...
Not to mention, speaking English is a part of American heritage. Society should adapt to American culture and values, which means all American citizens should speak the nation’s primary language: English. If people refuse to speak and/or learn English, those individuals are rejecting American culture. America has always been extremely accepting and welcoming to all people of different backgrounds, so people should accept and adopt America’s primary language as well(Ciamarra). By establishing a common language among all people, the nation will thrive and
In many countries, religion is very important, so important that some cultures use it in every aspect of their lives. China, like some other countries, is a multi-religious country.... ... middle of paper ... ...
With the rapid economic development, more and more people try to immigrate to America and trying to learn English. Some parents would like their children just speaking English. However, there are some parents tend to keep their native language and teach to their children, in order to keep their culture alive. And in my opinion, parents should keep their old language alive.
As people, all of the actions we take, and as a result, the benefits and consequences which occur, are rooted from our own beliefs. This is seen every day through the way we carry ourselves, the choices we make, how we treat others, etc. But, most notably, it is seen throughout history in the actions and culture of nations. China in particular is an area with many belief systems/ideologies which have developed over its long history; these include Confucianism, Legalism, Daoism, and Buddhism. With the previous statement, it is only logical to conclude that these belief systems have had a large impact on China’s development and culture.
In 1950, only 13% of China’s population lived in cities (Seto, n.d.). Post 30 years, one hundred-million people moved to large cities from rural areas in China. This migration was considered the largest migration in human history. To compare this migration to western cities, the example of Shenzhen is used. For a Western city to have a population of three million to increase to ten million, it takes about a hundred years. 30-year old city, Shenzhen on the other hand made this population increase in just a decade (qtd. Caughey and Dawn). Today, over 53.7% of its population lives in cities; by 2020 it is projected that a whole 60% of the population will live in cities (Xinhuanet, 2014).
Language is a very powerful thing. It is the way that people communicate with each other. For a foreigner living in America I think that this is essential. This is why I believe that if a foreigner only attempts to learn English, then they are already assimilating to American culture. Whether or not they choose to change their whole lifestyle into an American way of life, if they take on the English language then they are assimilating to a certain extent.

In 40 years, globalization has become a popular trend in the world. Especially in China, the culture and economy has been influenced by globalization a lot.
